How Stein managed big game weeks

1113

I asked Archie Macpherson to speak about Jock Stein at CQN11, to mark the 50th anniversary of Jock’s appointment as Celtic manager, and then stayed quiet as he spoke.  One of the points he made was that Jock would have a news plan ahead of a big game.

Good news would be held back until a few days before the game, giving fans and players a lift, to ensure maximum impact.  Bad news could break at any time, but it would have to fight for column inches.  As an operator, he is still worth studying.  Celtic should plan to dominate this week’s news accordingly.

Apart from that horrible game away to Legia, Ronny Deila has not been to a sell-out Celtic game in a large stadium, and even that was only 30,000.  It’s possible he’s never even played before a large sell-out crowd, so you can be sure he’ll not be short of people telling him what to expect, and how to prepare for Hampden on Sunday.

There are some obvious pitfalls for him to avoid, in particular to ensure his players are not provoked into retaliation, but taking too much advice would be a mistake (will not stop us offering plenty advice).  He’s spent all season playing and preparing one way, anything which gets in the way of this will only put him off his game.  The manager needs to employ a filter this week, tell everyone he’s got the situation covered and get on with the game.

Loving the way recipients of Rangers EBT loans have been asked about an advert dealing with the consequences of their loans, but are not actually asked about the loans themselves. These guys only agree speak on the understanding they are not asked about their loans, none of which are or will be repaid.

I accept that if the loan recipient is being asked about yesterday’s charity match, or some other football game, there’s no place to ask him about his loan, but these guys are regularly commenting on the consequences of their loans, without ever having to deal with the awkward question.

He’s in total control. Also gets to nominate 2 x directors to the board and the other £5M is only available contingent upon sue silligence to be conducted by his guys. Of course, that’s not to say they won’t attempt to stabilise the business and issue further shares – that would raise capital without the need for further lending. But why would he do that if he has them by the short ‘n’ curlies already?

    #######################

No doubt he’s now in total control. A new share issue needs the current share holders permission & with the current animosity between the players is this likely? I think Big Mike got a bit of a shock a few weeks ago when discovering he wasn’t the preferred creditor. Not sure if this deal today now makes him so? However if it does then he can’t lose in whatever happens next. He has the retail side sewn up for the foreseeable and if he does possess preferred creditor status then he’s the first in line for the assets. King, the three bears, Servher or someone else now needs to make their minds up to if they want to pump money into the football side, pay Ashley off or do walking away.

They need to find millions from somewhere but with diminishing assets to offer security over then who in their right mind would plough fortunes into a bottomless pit.

Currently it looks like just £2mil for wages as it stands, though there is a possiblity of a further £5mil after due diligence. On what, perhaps the status of Ipox?

The only way Murray kept them ‘solvent’ was by inflating asset values to the extent that at one time I thought Ibrox was in Mayfair

My wife and I were in Berlin in October and we went to the Memorial of the Murdered Jews of Europe Centre which was very informative about the experiences of different Jewish families living in Europe and the devastating effect that the rise of the Nazis had on these families and millions of other Jewish people and other ethnic minorities. It was a chastening and very emotional experience looking at their photographs and reading accounts of their lives in letters and other documents. I hadn’t known that the Nazis employed specialist death squads who travelled around these countries to carry out mass killings of the civilian population after being summoned by Nazi commanders in charge of these areas. These were specialist murderers who looked into the eyes of their victims and pulled the trigger to murder them. There was one horrific photo of a group of about 30 naked Jewish women who had been shot by one of these death squads but one woman was still alive. She raised her head and looked up at these animals and one of them looked straight at her and shot her.

We say this must never happen again yet it has and is happening all over the world – Rwanda, Srebrenica, Nigeria, Sudan and Syria/Iraq. People are still being killed on the grounds of their religion or ethnicity. Bigoted views must be challenged at all times.

One thing that I didn’t know though was that Hitler planned to exterminate the entire Polish nation. Over 200,000 Polish children were sent to Germany to be raised as Germans. After the war only 30,000 of thes children returned to Poland.

  6. Ashley is on control, there’s no doubt about that. The three bears must be sick this morning – Ashley hasn’t so much eaten their bowls of porridge as taken the whole damned pot from under their furry little blue noses/

No wonder Somers said to Ashleys advisor in that email that KingCo could ‘do a lot of damage’ to Ashleys interests – this had been endgame all along.

I’m having problems with forced LW’s and LT scales, some of the files are translations from dgn to dwg, I was going to ask thelurkintim:

Bit of a rush job on and I’m working on some GA’s at the moment that marry up the off-plot brownfield works and tie-ins with the greenfield project, as you’d be aware, this involves multiple XR’s but they’ve been produced at multiple varying dwg scales and LT scales from various platforms. To compound my problem some of the LT’s have been forced at varying scales and widths too, and to really compound the problem, some of the P’Lines’s also have their continuity integrity forced. Now I know that I could detach each XR (if they weren’t bound) and set a common scale but my problem is further compounded by the fact that some of the off-plots have been produced on another platform and translated.

Also some of the content has come from PDMS models I know I should know the procedure but I just forget where to begin to produce an acceptable deliverable that meets code and British Standards.

Looks like I’ll just have to do it the long way.

If we never really realised where Celtic fc and it’s support stand in Scottish football / Scotland, we sure know now.

It’s not so much a case ‘are they guilty’ or ‘are they a new club’.

Legally they are guilty as sin and are a new club. No hack, lawyer or judge will attempt to dispute or contradict the herald ad, because they know it’s the truth.

Everyone and anyone in power has jumped aboard the Sevco bandwagon of delusion.

And why? Simply because some will always view Celtic as the Irish immigrant club who cannot at any cost be allowed to dominate Scottish football and the ‘establishment club’ (old or new) in the long term.

I see a wee problem in issuing more shares to raise capital.

The company was valued at c£60m after the float, but the erosion since of the share price has seen that fall to around £20m.

To raise enough just to pay off Ashley, even without a further discount, would mean diluting current holdings by a third.

Not sure how many shareholders would be up for that.

Fair point mate – you’ll be more clued-up than me on these things. I thought that, if the business was due to go into admin etc, existing shareholders might prefer to raise capital. I guess the bottom line is that MASH are monstering them!
