The stats tell an enticing story, Milan have played thirteen competitive games since beating Celtic and won only two, but you can forget about them right now. Celtic are good enough to take three points tomorrow but it will require a perfect match plan if they are to do so.
This fixture will hold no fears for Celtic, who have been over similar ground many times before, but they face players vastly more experienced at playing the intensity of football which will be on display tomorrow evening. If we are to get anything from the game, we will have to subvert a team who will enjoy the majority of possession and territorial advantage, with impeccable defending and expert finishing.

In days gone by there was a preseason game between the first team and reserves and that gave us a look who was coming forward for the new season. Also there was a cachet to the reserve league then and some games drew big crowds which was great experience for the younger and the not so younger players

Agree with TBB’s assessment on Gauld (posted thoughts on it on previous blog).
Too often a young Scots player puts a meteoric string of games together and there is an immediate clamour to sign him – lost count of the 100’s we’ve been linked with these past 50 years!
Remember Stevie May – October’s flavour of the month? League 2! side Rotherham offered £300K for him – St. Johnstone wanted £800K for a boy that’s been banging in goals in the lower Scottish Leagues these past 2 seasons.
Compare and contrast – we’ve had a dabble with 2 (Balde & Mo) @ circa £2M combined (off-set by loan period wages) – CFC will not part with circa £2M on a Scottish 17 year-old project when we have an Academy full of so-called prospects.
Pan the river long enough – and we might just find a nugget!

I don’t know where you get your info from, but it is consistently wrong. In the latest case, reference the SPL share. As with the SFA membership, it was not Rangers’/D&P’s to sell. It could only be transferred by the board of the SPL. The SPL Board elected not to transfer it to Sevco.
I get my info from various places including CQN, I also get my disinformation from various places, most of my posts are aimed at trying to clarify/understand… This particular information came from a chhap called Paul McConville, now of course I didn’t articulate it as well as he…

Paul George and Calum McGregor play the game like Ryan Gauld. The difference is RG is getting a game in the SPFL like our former Bhoy Andrew Robertson. Hope Jackie Mac can develop these talents, and keep them for a couple of years.

For me tomorrow night is what I live for, Tims on the park, and Tims in the crowed giving there all, to me it doesent matter who crosses that line to go on the park donning the hoops, like it or lump it that’s who the manager picks to fight our battles and we have to back them 90+ mins. We will ohhhhh and aweeeee most of that time , shout an awe Ffs , jump out of our seat and cheer, or Bury our head in our hands, and when it’s over we go home or back to the local watering hole and dissect the game, and in reality thank god we are not traveling back home from Arbroath, ohhhhh it’s great being a Tim ;)

McCarthy – we elected not to buy him, decent player as discussed. Shame.
McArthur – now 26 years old, currently playing for Wigan in the Championship
Snodgrass – now 26, late developer. Went on loan from Livi to Stirling Albion in 2007 age 20. Following year went to League 1 Leeds Utd. We elected not to take him. 4 years later emerged as a Norwich City player.
Craig Gordon – we went with young David Marshall. Hearts got a big chunk of money for Craig Gordon. Marshall got the career. We went with Forster when Gordon was available last year. Gordon gets the sympathy vote.
Dorrans – per Snodgrass. Decent player. Like Snodgrass, signed by Tony Mowbray for WBA from Livi for training compo aged 21. BTM elected not to bring him to Celtic when he joined us as manager the following year. 5 years later Dorrans is still there, and is a decent player. Respect.
Naismith – decent player. We weren’t interested at the money quoted. Rangers paid £2M for him aged 20. Peripheral player at Everton now aged 27.
Scott Brown – we bought him 6 years ago. He’s done pretty well since.
Fletcher – Darren, went to Man Utd aged 14, and has stayed there to wonderful effect for 15 years, as discussed.
Fletcher – Steven, we elected not to buy him, went to Wolves, and is now, aged 26, playing in EPL with bottom placed Sunderland, this years Wigan/Reading/Blackpool delete as appropriate.
Point being, you’ve effectively listed the ‘top’ current Scottish international players developed in Scotland over the past 10 years who weren’t recruited by Celtic (Brown apart). And that’s pretty much the sum of the talent over the past decade, none of whom (D Fletcher was missed in the previous decade) have done much at all beyond earn a decent career, Scott Brown excepted.
The facts that speak are that there is a relatively small population of Scottish boys who want to play football, a handful who are capable of it, a few who make a decent career, and just a pinch of top talent.
None of the above (D Fletcher apart) are top talent as we would consider their predecessors in the Scotland team.
On balance, we tend to get the ones we want, and our judgement isn’t too bad.

Don’t get me wrong – I would love a scheme where we could hive-out 6-8 of our young lads like Paul George for 3-6 month periods (even in pairs abroad) to get first team game time (even in lower leagues).
We have a problem (always subject to debate) where we have to play a nucleus of ‘top’ first team players that constantly need to be refined/ manipulated thanks to CL aspirations – leaves little room for ‘debut’ game-time. If we qualify for Europe (after Christmas) – even less time.
Hopefully this year – if we continue our current unbeaten league form, there might just be a few more opportunities! Young Fisher is a ‘prime’ example (so far) – another 2-3 youngsters getting that type of run and I would delighted.
