Inexplicable talk

647

There can be no doubt that Brendan Rodgers has played his cards very publicly this week.  I don’t know the ins-and-outs of it, but it cannot be over losing a player he could not promise a starting position to.  I’m not buying that, there has to be something we are not seeing.

We have a modestly important league game tomorrow and a hugely important Champions League qualifier on Tuesday, so between now and Wednesday, at the earliest, it would be preferable not to allow this week of internally created negativity to drag on into yet another press conference.

We are also trying to convince Dedryck Boyata and Moussa Dembele to sign new contracts.  You and I know that talk getting in the way these objectives is as inexplicable as it is indulgent.

  1. The league is where it’s at. More important to me than Champions League where the money just raises expectations of paying stupid money for ordinary players like they do in the EPL and then want me to pay more for my season tickets.

No. Live with our means. Do our best in Europe. Be that CL or Europa League, it’s just a bonus.

League is priority. Especially against the sons of the sons of William. They are top of the teams I want to beat. Even ahead of Sevco.

  2. Morning guys, I usually take what John James says with a large pinch of salt but if he has today’s line up correct I’d say it’s squeaky bum time as he’s stated BR was ready to resign in the 20th of July and will be gone within a month

  3. Sorry, it was a contributor of JJ that stated the timeline of a month, what JJ actually states is “If Rodgers receives the offer he’s looking for he will leave Lennoxtown. His mind is made up. It’s just a matter of time.”

  4. BMCUWP,

I was only enquiring, not picking you up on it.

Really hope it isn’t true, however I have that dreaded feeling in my stomach that something has changed. Ultimately, us, the ordinary punters, will never know what really happens between people at these levels; we just get the privilege of arguing with each other in pubs, in blogs etc. over the fallout.

  5. Whatever team we play expect a ‘bruising encounter’ which is the smsm euphemism for Hertz cloggers trying to maim and injure Celtic players at every available opportunity.

The team sheet has been getting leaked for months. I used to work with someone during MONs period who would share the team sheet hours in advance of games. She had a contact.

The leaking now seems more widespread and might just be the timternet feeling the need to share golden info but it doesn’t help

    The club.

When this lassie shared her info we didn’t pass on and feel the need to put it on Twitter. Though I seem to remember a time she told me Strachan was starting Sno against Benfica and sharing that here. So confession from me and I’ve learned a lesson father.

aye,but it’s good form to acknowledge your source-especially when it’s a direct lift!

Agreed that it suggests very deep-seated problems, which if true mean that either PL or BR is likely to be here for much longer.

And the most worrying thing? I doubt we have coherent succession planning in place for either eventuality.

  8. So Brendan is for the offski according to Jeff Colby. What a complete Horlicks of a transfer window. That team looks rotten on the site.

Regardless of the ins and outs, the current “discussions” are a timely reminder that we are never entitled to anything and that success should not be taken for granted – easy to forget after 7 in a row.

If there is any truth in the JJ blog then I would expect us to sign nobody before the end of the transfer window – just look at whats been going on over at Man Utd in the last month.

Could we see Brendan end up at Old Trafford? I guess stranger things have happened – but not much we can do about it.

    Dermot, Peter and Brendan ..

Based on instinct only, I will be surprised if Brendan stays. If Brendan does go, I wonder if Peter will have to go as well.

Dermot will then be in a position of having lost potentially his best ever Manager, and also his trusted CEO, which would then bring his own stewardship and majority ownership of Celtic into serious question.

I hope none of this happens, but I expect it all to happen.

  13. Too many people will only believe the negative rumours whilst disregarding all others. Not much you can do about that except remember that they are in fact only rumours.

Giving yourself unnessecary stress is not healthy

  14. Unfortunately we seem to be living in interesting times.

All this 10iar tripe seems to have resurrected the ghost of 74/75.

Then comes the full and frank discussion of the 20th July.

What brought it on and what was the outcome — apart from the JMcG shambles.

BR — strange comments at strange times.

PL — trying to use the SG card to put the manager on a shorter leash.

Gambling that he wouldn’t want to be seen running away this season.

    PL — enough is enough.

How many more failures will this man need to engineer before he is shown the door?

It’s human nature for people to believe the theories that fit their own thoughts and opinions.

That’s what makes life fun, particularly over a pint or six. Politics, sport, religion, the kind of subjects based on belief and faith rather than simple hard facts-it’s all about opinions!

  16. At least 12.30 will take us one step down the road.

And 14.30 will tell us even more.

Huge game — we need to roll them over big style.

  17. Have to agree with Chris Sutton today about Lee Congerton. All the talk about us needing at least oneCHwas ,hopefully the main talking point ,between the manager and him.If so,his search would have to be classed as abysmal.

    CELTICOMOV

PL has seen off three managers with three titles, and if we lose BR,two managers with two titles.

He’s far from my favourite person, but that’s a lot of titles in his time, and not a bad CV.

He won’t leave on the back of this.

  19. Having read for years on here, philmc, johnjames etc about the Huns’ IMMINENT DEMISE, I treat such things with a pinch of salt.

Would be horribly ironic – and Celtic like – if this was the one that turned out to be true in tone and timings! ?

Anyway all I can do for now is my own bit. Cheering at a telly to try to beat the minis

Understand all that, but it is the constant passing off as fact things which are merely rumours or speculation. These are then expanded on to give us wild scenarios where more often than not everything is all doom and gloom. Some people need to get out into the sunshine a bit more.

Spoke with someone well connected to Celtic yesterday,my question was ‘is there trouble at mill?’………..reply ‘ahh, can’t say much, sworn to secrecy, you probably know as much as me’

Have had numerous conversations with him in the past without this level of reticence to share info.

  22. I don’t believe BR will go at this point. If he does it would look like he was running scared from Gerrard no matter what excuses for his departure. He’s been on record saying he wasn’t interested in moving to a big EPL club at this moment in time. I wouldn’t be surprised, however, if he went at the end of the season, successful or not.

I also do not believe that he briefed any members of theSMSM “off the record” about his intentions as there is no such thing as “off the record” when it comes to our Club.

If we have someone ‘leaking’ then it needs to be dealt with.

  23. As for leaked teams…..the non voguepunter cabbie who dropped my dad and before the rosenburg match told us, all hush hush, that Gamboa was playing. His senior contact had just told him.

This was not news to me as it had been on cqn 24 hours previously!

I was much more aggrieved that my search to find voguepunter had once again drawn a blank. ?

  25. The lack of any sort of statement from Celtic is alarming. They must be aware of all the rumour, and should make a joint statement denying or confirming what is rumoured. Then we will know. After all, who cares about us, eh?

To the present then , just do that mob from swinecastle , keep 11 players on the pitch and hammer them into the ground, oh I despise that lot!!

PL has a track record of failure.

Cheap managers and agent friendly signings.

Write offs in the accounts plus an emergency share issue.

Selling players to balance the books practically shoving them out the door.

Emptying CP to the point of ridicule.

Ridiculous levels of remuneration — Harrods money for a TK Maxx performance.

In football the CEO is a bit part player.

Football is played on the pitch not on a balance sheet.

It is our money he is spending — he just pays the bills.

He is not RM in Zimbabwe — 15 years in the one job is too long.

Quick question — what is CFC’s biggest ever spend?

    OE signing — wrong.

    PL wages — correct.

Was he waiting for the balloon to go up,like Jimmy in Reggie Perrin?

Facetious,I know. And I genuinely share your concern.

These last two years have been as good as I can recall on the pitch-largely-and off it too.

We had a manager almost universally adored, and a board which seemed prepared to go the extra yard for him.

Unity between fans,management,board-almost unheard of in a long long time.

    Then-BOOM!!!

Now,do we have a problem? I genuinely dunno. But there is a clear perception of a divide between the board and the management.

And that in turn is heightening friction amongst the fans, many of whom are dividing into their previous camps.

It’s been an unnecessary pissing competition. With NO winners.

No,not even John McGinn,if I’m honest. Being a pawn in a poker game-aye,I know!-has stopped him living the dream.

  28. With Dedryk Boyata ‘injured’ the defensive team selection just got a whole lot more interesting.

Brendan Rodgers trust in Jack Hendry is about to be tested to the maximum in as difficult an away game as we are likely to face in the SPL, maybe Brendan was getting his retaliation in first? I’d play Jozo and Ajer but I thought that before the AEK game as well.

Now that the shit storm is in full swing and SMSM have made their manna from heaven it won’t be long till they have the sorcerer getting out of town before he gets whopped by his apprentice.

Back in the real world of normal society and Celtic supporters switched off from internet mania, the away support will get the unique full diet treatment reserved for travelling Celtic fans.

The cumulative effect of double trebles and seven titles in a row, fairly has SMSM nearing boiling point, and with violence at every Sevco game so far, lord knows what things will be like if Celtic get any nearer Brendan’s fabled ten.

Fortunately, along with the board hating internet we’ve still got the best footballing side responsible for where we sit, and its down to them to win the most important game of the season so far, then take Athens as it comes.
