There can be no doubt that Brendan Rodgers has played his cards very publicly this week. I don’t know the ins-and-outs of it, but it cannot be over losing a player he could not promise a starting position to. I’m not buying that, there has to be something we are not seeing.
We have a modestly important league game tomorrow and a hugely important Champions League qualifier on Tuesday, so between now and Wednesday, at the earliest, it would be preferable not to allow this week of internally created negativity to drag on into yet another press conference.
We are also trying to convince Dedryck Boyata and Moussa Dembele to sign new contracts. You and I know that talk getting in the way these objectives is as inexplicable as it is indulgent.

don’t have a problem , only issue was with his ‘background’ that he was a certain signing and money didn’t matter or that you were a first pick.
The McGinn’s come from the West End and Clydebank. Mrs Guidi nee McGinn was in the same class at school as Shug Keevins. Her son is Mark Guidi. Her nephew John has just hit the Villa jackpot.

Tony Xia had raise more Chinese investment to keep the club afloat. New investors did just that but wanted to sack Steve Bruce and bring in Thierry Henry. Xia managed to keep Bruce who happened to be long term admirer of McGinn. AV then entered the race with new investment and to there surprise Celtic hadn’t closed a deal with Hibs. So they meet a valuation acceptable to Hibs and offer McGinn a better deal which has less or no bonus conditions depending on appearances. Mcginn and his team also realize the greater future earning potential of getting a move down south in future contracts all going well. McCarthy for example 80k+ before bonuses. No brainer for McGinn and co to take the deal from AV. In meantime Brendan realizes the missed opportunity to close this deal months ago and have McGinn for start of pre season. Potentially this is not first time Celtic are beaten to a key BR target after having had protracted negiotations and BR goes public with his displeasure on how transfer negotiations are handled at the club. I don’t agree with BR going public. Bottom line, Celtic lose out on McGinn by haggling with Hibs before AV are ever in the equation. BR wanted player for start of pre season and Celtic preferred to haggle on a deal thinking McGinn would be available in January for cut-fee if Hibs didn’t compromise on the price. Celtic got complacent in negotiations probably because they were only bidder at that point and misassumed McGinns determination to play for us. Aston Villaenter bidding and we now know the rest.
