Inexplicable talk

647

There can be no doubt that Brendan Rodgers has played his cards very publicly this week.  I don’t know the ins-and-outs of it, but it cannot be over losing a player he could not promise a starting position to.  I’m not buying that, there has to be something we are not seeing.

We have a modestly important league game tomorrow and a hugely important Champions League qualifier on Tuesday, so between now and Wednesday, at the earliest, it would be preferable not to allow this week of internally created negativity to drag on into yet another press conference.

We are also trying to convince Dedryck Boyata and Moussa Dembele to sign new contracts.  You and I know that talk getting in the way these objectives is as inexplicable as it is indulgent.

If we don’t win at swinecastle then it’s meltdown on here and in the

wider Celtic community,Brendan’s pre-match media interviews should

    be interesting.

Anyone who melts down 2 league games into the season really needs to take a tranquiliser.

Brendan Rodgers will leave it is just a matter of when as it is with all managers. We Celtic fans rate Brendan highly and yet for two seasons in my opinion our defence has needed strengthening and yet we sign midfielders and not Centre Backs why this ? I do not know also although we have qualified for the Champions league group stage twice we have lost to many games heavily. Brendan is a big fish in a small pond and if he leaves sooner rather than later I am sure there are other managers out there who could replace him. Todays game against Hearts will be a big challenge and we will have to be at our best if we are to get 3 points . H.H.

Given the week we’ve had don’t be surprised at the carnage if

    we lose.

  5. So Dedryck has a ‘sore’ back?

Possibly caused by sitting on the bench for Belgium during the knock-out stage at the WC.

    HH!!

  6. STARRY PLOUGH

Or Dedryck down tools because he’s become a pawn in the pissing contest between CEO and manager

  7. I have absolutely no doubt Brendan is going nowhere.I have no doubt either that he has become frustrated at Celtics transfer policy over the last 6/8 months.

However he is a top manager and man and would never let us down at this time.

He has tactically tried to smoke out the money men at Celtic in a public way he has probably been trying to do privately for some time.

Keep the faith Celtic fans. All is still open for us including Champions league football and the transfer window.

And as for Boyata and the stories coming from his agent this morning?……take the money and get rid.

  11. Hi Bhoys

Somebody asked earlier (sorry i can’t remember who) did Dixie Deans ever score against the auld huns.

I worked with his young brother Robert from 78 till 86. He assured me Dixie never scored against them but john greig saved a goal bound effort from Dixie with his hand on the line.

Regarding calling him John his brother always called him Dixie.

  15. So Boyata has downed tools. Rodgers and board seem very united in not being keen to move him on. This doesn’t square with this week’s wisdom.

I don’t think anybody really knows what is going on. Two faces could be a conservative estimate for the protagonists involved.

  16. So to summarise, the manager thinks he and scouting team have identified three gettable targets, within budget (fee and wages) and who indicate they are willing to join. This is passed to the negotiating team who, for whatever reason, fail to conclude any of the deals. All three players then talk to other clubs and are sold to them for a combined fee of <£13m.

Manager, disappointed in a perceived lack of backing/ambition speaks out in public, CEO/board brief chosen journalists/bloggers against the manager.

Manager then, again publically, states that we can’t sell his favoured CH who we have a bid in for, is in last year of contract and wants to go. In this instance the CEO/board back off and don’t sell to English club. Player, who manger wants ready to play on Tuesday downs tools (do t believe the mystery back injury, sorry) so won’t play anyway. We’ll ignore the fact the player in question isn’t that good, arguably our best CH but that says more about years of neglect in that position than anything else.

Had this scenario occurred across the city we’d all be having a wee laugh, P67 would be blogging how lucky we are to have such a wonderful board and the likes of Phil McG would be quoting his imaginary friend inside Ibrox telling us what a shambles they are.

  17. JFH,

    You are right.

Paul has said the Foundations are there to let ANY Manager come in and do a job. Brendan is basically, easily replaceable. Hmmmm I’m not so sure he is. An article bigging up Neil Lennon had my antenna twitching way back. The NFL is an awesome Manager but it is the Support that is being let down.

Hopefully a win against the minis and a cracking performance and high scoring draw or win in Athens will have us back on the road again.

Please stop with any of the Certain stuff. That isnae my Celtic. That is arrogant p!sh.

  19. Starry

Either way he doesn’t appear to be available for selection according to SMSM.

The irony is our board haters will still hate PL and co, if they don’t sell

a ‘Bombscare’ ‘Liability’ ‘Big Coward’ for the reported £10M.

If he gets sold they’ll also say it’s a disgrace because Brendan wanted him.

Whatever happens the key words are ‘Board Haters” all doing SMSM’s work

Brexit and Trump both won on fake news apparently

Now Brendan is the subject of taking a small fact and turning it into a suicidal mess

Our Manager has a little moan (correctly) about not getting supported and 15 pages later he is picking a weak team to make a point to Lawwell before he moves to Man Utd and 10 in a row is gone

    FFS

Yes I do believe he is pissed off and so he should be – PL has really demotivated him – but let’s not hang ourself just yet

  25. good morning all,

That “leaked” starting team for today from JJ site COULD be Brendan showing the board how we are lacking in squad strength OR the manager saying to fringe players like Kouaasi, Hayes, Sinclair & maybe Simunovic & even Griffiths, to show me you deserve to play more.

Just hope all the reported infighting is parked until we beat the diet Huns & we can fully concentrate on Tuesday
