Irony behind robust SFA rules

1103

The statement released by Duff and Phelps last night revealed the substance to the lobbying that had taken place since the original punishment handed out by the SFA judicial panel:

“The decision by the appellate tribunal to uphold the sanction, namely the suspension of registration of players for one year, is not competent in the view of the club and its legal advisers.

“Such a sanction was not available to the tribunal”.

The suspension of player registrations was not one of the suggested punishments on the menu for the judicial panel but the rules allowed them to vary from guidance and choose whatever punishment they believed appropriate.

The appeal correctly found that the judicial panel were not were not subject to an exhaustive list of possible punishments.  Duff and Phelps main hope was that the SFA rules were unclear and poorly constructed, as they were before an overhaul last year.

You don’t need to look too hard for the irony.

  5. There is a call to arms on FF. They’re quoting Churchill over in Lala Land. . What is it with these war mongering mentalists? Battlecries of Rangers till I DIE ( hopefully not very long now). BLOOD. GLORY. WAR etc. “ARMY of Rangers fans” are an “effective WEAPON”. What is it with their obsession with violence? FIGHTING funds. Uniforms, regalia & marching bands making detours to Hampden during marching season…lets hope the visiting Edinburgers accelerate their extinction process on Saturday.

  10. Some not bad players in this CL final, anything in that transfer embargo about not signing women? Maybe a loophole for Ally to get his hands on some players with top level European experience.

I wouldn’t know, not being a member there myself.

  12. Earlier I told the story about Semir Stilic banned for six games for singing : “Legia is old w##re….” on the Market Square in Poznan.

I said we were waiting for decision concerning few Slask Wraclaw players singing similar song on Market Square in Wroclaw.

Six Slask Wroclaw players got five games ban each.

All players have to pay huge fines.

  13. Bada Bing!

Thanks for that. Incidentally, I had never seen a second of The Sopranos but a friend has now loaned me the Complete set. For me, so far, it is OK but the highlight was seeing yor name in lights 0:-)

  14. Alex Thomson has done a fantastic job in getting the Rangers story into the msm and deserves a lot of credit.

Reading his latest contribution, I’m beginning to think that not only has he stuck the knife in deeply but he’s enjoying twisting it round and round. :-)

  15. I was the same with you with Sopranos- I’ve got to the last series.

Really thought it was great. Its like most TV series it gets better once you get to know the characters.

Thanks to those who responded to my early morning questions and surprise.

Given that the ban holds and would apply equally to newclub, part of me almost wishes they could stay in the SPL for next year, suffering week in week out.

    But no, kill them quickly.

PS Appeal to Europe? ON basis of what? That the sanction specifically given in the rules wasn’t applied to them? Did D&P actually want the licence revoked so they could blame someone else?

Appealing to european courts might open up all kinds of things they’d rather never saw the light of day….

Being a young raver of proper old skool techno in the late 80s and very early 90s I am genuinely saddened by the death of Donna Summer, her famous ‘I Feel Love’ chorus made for a monumental sample to the soundtrack of the summer of 91,her lyric is the gem of many an old Metro tape from back in the day.

Will we ever see the day when this mob hold their hands up and say “enough is enough, we are sorry” or are they going to go on lashing out at everyone. It’s embarrassing, it’s like watching an old drunk shadow boxing, and telling everyone he used to be a champion before he was cheated out of his title.

When yr right, yr right… The common synopsis of The Sopranos was that it was about modern American family life as much as it was about organised crime and its so true. The way the characters relationships all build up in it is brilliant. It does get better and better the more ye get into it. Something that The Wire does very well also…
