Celtic hunt in packs.

Leipzig possessed tremendous ability to switch the ball across the field with speed and accuracy.  Celtic hunted the ball down, packs of players swooped on the man in possession, then often switched to the other side of the field, before swooping again.

This took oceans of energy, but most of all speed.  How many times did you notice Callum McGregor or Ryan Christie scarper 30 yards at full pace, just to add defensive cover?  This is why Leipzig created so few good chances until the latter stages of the game.

Leipzig can do nothing about Forrest.

All they could do with James Forrest is get close enough to concede a foul and receive a caution.  The often showed James inside, but he can drop a shoulder and escape with the ball so well he was literally unplayable.

Tiredness before equaliser.

Before Leipzig’s equaliser the visitors had three substitutes on the field, whereas, Celtic persevered with the starting 11.  Rogic, Sinclair, Forrest and especially Lustig were tired.  I was desperate for Brendan to put fresh legs on.  Forrest was still capable of tormenting the Leipzig defence, so I was surprised when he was replaced with 7 minutes left, but Sinclair and Rogic both made significant contributions in the final minutes.

Peter, get ready for the summer.

We know the script when it comes to French under-21 internationals.  Leipzig could not get the ball off Odsonne Edouard inside the box.  Could. Not. Get. The. Ball. Off. Him.  There will be a clamour for this boy’s signature.  I know it’s the last thing we want and how difficult it is to continue to go to the well and get the same results, but this one is in the post.

McGregor, Christie, Sinclair, Forrest and Rogic.

Yesterday I wrote that I wanted these five tested at this level.  They determined Celtic’s entire structure and pace of play.  The result was that we played our best football in Europe for a long time.  They have already done the same to our domestic form.  We will need Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham this season, but we cannot this midfield just to accommodate either of them.

Life’s great experiences!

The moment the stadium fell dark, bar spotlights on the centre circle, took my breath away.  For the next five minutes, I was mesmerised.  If life’s great experiences are truly priceless, the new light system at Celtic Park was worth every penny, whatever the cost.  60,000 people stood in awe, and there are a good few hardened cynics among them.

You and me have had some great times in recent years.

  2. Not going to make it to Glesga’ for the Hoot today. Suffering with a bad cold and it would just make no sense to spend 2 and a half hours on a train to be a miserable git for a few hours, infecting everyone close by, before another 2 and a half hours to get home. Would knock me for six, so reluctantly, didn’t go to the train station.

Hope all the guys who make it have a great day.

  4. Celtic could double their money on Edouard tomorrow if they wanted. Hopefully Dembeles lack of game time will convince the big man to stay and not chase the money.

I have been banging on about the value of our squad being insurance for not qualifying for the Champions League.

Kieran Tierneys performance the other night was breathtaking. He is every bit the £30m player. I also still think there is another gear for him if he gets the right coaching on speed work. He strikes fear into the opposition when he knocks it round one side and goes on the other.

No one should get complacent in January when planning for the summer. At least 1 striker and sort the right back and centre backs.

  5. Beautiful morning here in ML3. A great day for walking as no football on. Refreshing.

I would support Paul67’s right to red card anyone, given that it is Paul’s blog; he sets the rules and most people agree to abide by them, thereby creating a reasonably harmonious vehicle for online discussion.

If Paul67 has decided that someone/anyone has repeatedly decided to transgress the rules to the extent that they are endangering the blog’s reputation, then I believe we should support Paul67 and his judgement.

Paul67 would not, does not, issue a red card lightly. There will have been ample cause for him to take such action.

CQN was not set up to convey profanity and personal abuse.

    We should consider this fact.

One could also argue that Paul67 is being considerate in not allowing someone the opportunity to play out their own personal issues on a public forum.

The bottom line is if you play within the rules you do not get red carded. Certainly not by Paul67.

If we as Celtic fans are constantly insulted by a poster on CQN ( same poster constantly) then surely BMCUWP can get back..

Then again he might feel aggrieved and not want back on.

  8. The problem being as in the Refereeing world different Mods have different levels of leniency ….

People who continiuosly break the rules and are’nt banished for good /no coming back under different names either means there is a weakness in Paul/Mods to implement the rules or he realises the blog would die anyway without the discourse …glad i’m not a mod .

You should try doing a boot scan, before you start running programs.

Not sure how to do it on a mac, but pc you can do it (avast ).

This picks up malware that is hiding in programs.

  17. Red card in Cardiff v Brighton game that refs in Scotland often let off with a talking to in Celtic games.

    It was! the right decision.!!!!

But a jaundiced Scottish ref see’s through different eyes.

  18. Just reaised what i miss about travelling on the train on a monday morning after the Rangers have been pumped .

PLEASE MIND THE GAP , announced at every station …petty i know , amuses my simple mind .???

  19. Ode to Jobo Baldie

    Leipzig to Livingston.

Celtic supporters will notice that the resigning of Olivier Ntcham has just about gotten a mere mention in SMSM, but in Celtic circles this is big, big news and an indicator of how well Celtic manage our player personnel, at least the ones that we want to keep, long term.

SMSM made noises that Ntcham would follow want away Dembele at the end of his contract, if not the summer window ended and as the cynics do, said we’d sell, cash in, bank the dosh etc etc . None of this happened of course and the highly valued player wants to remain at Celtic, along with his French long timer Odsonne Edouard.

Celtic can afford to ‘buy big’ again as they did with Olivier Ntcham and this type of signing will be repeated whe we find the correct targets that will be developed at Lennoxtown to maintain the gap that exists between us and clubs who cannot afford to develop buy never mind develop £ 4.5M signings.

Very different to Ryan Christie who has made McGinn a memory, and had any other SPL side in Scotland made a reasonable offer they could have developed him, whilst Celtic were busy doing with Aberdeen. We’ll never know whether we’d have sold our £500,000 star, and the rank and file of the Celtic support will be glad about that.

An astonishing game at Murrayfield seems to have unleashed Christie’s so far ‘unseen in Hoops’ potential, if you saw it before, then you know a player, and to be honest there would have been few raised eyebrows in Parkhead had Ryan remained Northbound. But what a meteoric rise. since he came in off the wing and we sidelined Griffiths and sold Dembele.

Whilst there are no players in the Celtic squad who haven’t picked up the gauntlet since summer, its been said James Forrest has taken his new contract and his unique style to a different level and its very difficult for the most cynical not to agree, James saw off Paddy Roberts in a sense, and its no longer we Jamesie its Mr Forrest if you please.

Filip Benkovic has been a revelation at centre back majestic at Murrayfield he’s filling his Hoops and the price tag of the very wealthy neighbours, whilst eclipsing the £5M summer signing we never made.

Dedryk surely the daddy of all the Celtic developed with his £9M price tag. has to be convinced to sign on again, ( see Olivier Ntcham ) and if he’s no longer agent influenced or the suitors back down, he could be persuaded to stay for a little longer towards the ten.

    Happy days a Hoop CSC
