Janko, concentrate TV money on 6, not 42 clubs

1067

The assembly of Celtic-2015-16 continued apace yesterday with the arrival of Saidy Janko (19) from on a four year contract.  Saidy spent the second half of last season on loan to Bolton Wanderers, under Neil Lennon, in one of the game’s most bizarre transfers.

Manchester United were happy to allow Janko to go to Bolton in the winder transfer window but his absence would have left their U21 team short.  They needed a defender so Bolton offered Andy Kellett.  Kellett had only been in the field a total of 85 minutes in his Bolton career and had been farmed out to Portsmouth earlier in the season.  So it came as a surprise when Neil Lennon called to say “Pack your stuff, you’re going on loan to Manchester United”.

Saidy arrived in Manchester from Zurich as a 17-year-old right back but now plays all right-side positions.  There are things I like about this transfer: he’s been watched by the manager and scouts and was high on the wanted list. The success rate of players who have been well-scouted is vastly better than players who arrive after glowing references from respected names in the game, but where the Lennoxtown guys have only seen rare glimpses of the target.

It’s heartening to read glowing references from those who have watched him in England but references don’t mean he’ll make it at Celtic.

The use of New St Mirren Park by Celtic for a friendly game was not in itself controversial. Before being liquidated, Rangers used the same venue for youth games, and Celtic have often used Excelsior Stadium Airdrie for the same purpose.

But when photos emerged early yesterday of Celtic livery above the club shop, temporarily stocked with Celtic merchandise, it stirred something within St Mirren fans. They don’t mind their stadium being used by another club in return for cash, but for some, sensitivities need to be observed.

I can’t say I was remotely bothered by Commonwealth Games livery at Celtic Park last year, nor would I have raised an eyebrow to the Celtic Superstore being handed over for the sale of Commonwealth memorabilia, very few of us were. However, I have some sympathy for St Mirren fans. We were in a position of strength when we agreed to the Commonwealth deal, St Mirren have just been relegated and most fans expect their stay in the Championship to be more than a single season.

Yesterday’s livery was an indication of St Mirren’s place in the world, not so much a Celtic competitor, more a facilitator, who survived for years on a dividend from Celtic fans’ TV subscriptions.

Paisley is big enough to support a vibrant community club, but it’s too close to Glasgow to build an independently resourced competitor, they are not an Aberdeen, Dundee United, Dundee (maybe still), Hibs or Hearts. We have a handful of economically viable tier one football clubs and should nurture them accordingly, while aligning community clubs to focus on what should be their strengths.

Imagine, for a second, TV money concentrated on six clubs, not 42. These clubs would harvest the talent from a community feeder system and have the opportunity to build a sustainable businesses.

  1. bgx, where the fcuk do you think your grease slick Alex spends his lubricant allowance ffs, there’s none in that SNP mob that wouldn’t swap their place for Westminster and don’t be so naive to try and bullshit.

    TET,

    Iceland got very very lucky, they are sitting on a live volcano, geothermal energy (something I’ve been ranting about since long before 2008 and this was one of the few places that claim is documented) is the cheapest and most green sources available. Energy is the only real stable currency and once the Vikings got to grips with the technology the only way was up.

    Scotland are still too fcuking stupid to see what’s staring us in the face, nuclear and wind farms ffs, wasting money on tidal and wave while filling in deep mines that take us half way to the cheapest energy, and there’s the crux, the same people who rule Scotland and I don’t mean the fcuking idiots in Edinburgh I mean the banksters, will never allow Scotland to invest in cheap energy they can’t make money from cheap energy so it will never be allowed to be successful, Iceland have proven it is cheap, easy and clean to produce, but our fcuking brains of Britain are still running down dead end high maintenance streets of fossil and nuclear rubbish dumps wind farms ffs want a waste of money. These are the people in charge now not the last 20/50 years, now.

    They have nothing but the same old same old shit to offer and they want to keep it that way, there is no revolutionary new thinking just the same dead ends dressed up in stupid.

    Naw, throwing up,Iceland for all the wrong reasons shows this place is stuck in the same stagnant hole Britain is and it won’t make one bit of difference to me or you if the govt moves from Westminster to Edinburgh the only difference will be that the Westminster paedophile ring will have a Scottish home just like the queen, but all the same visitors will be in attendance.

  7. Poverty?

    When as a parent you actively contact the social work department because you can’t cope with your home life and the behaviour of your children.

    When your children turn up at nursery/school at 9:30am without a breakfast.

    When your children can’t sleep because of the noise and violence which is taking place in the close outside their door.

    When you need to make a choice between heating your home or feeding your family.

    When your weans are going to school with no jacket despite the rain and snow.

    It’s poverty not politics.

    I won’t comment on your description of IRA volunteers but your choice of the word ‘parasites’ to describe the Celtic away support is indicative of how far removed you are from them.

    Low income (or poverty) is defined as people living in households with income below 60% of the median for that year.

    That explains why the government can trumpet that relative poverty figures are lower now than before-because so many people are suffering low incomes.

    Macjay likes to use Latin to label people’s argument but refuses to expand on his own bigotry because that how fascists like to think they are removed from reality, self delusion means you don’t need to care about other people’s hardship, a few bob to charity clears their conscience and makes them feel like they are good people while they stoke the fire of hatred and division like only fascists can. Immigrants after me should be controlled and need to comply with the rules I demand for naturalisation not the rules that applied to me but the rules I apply to you, I have zero doubt in my mind he is a mason a son of mamon who worships at the feet of mamons lady justice where all atrocities are excused in the name of their own greed and that is all the excuse they need to absolve themselves from their own poison.

    They are poison, a sickness they have grown into and accepted as normal, the only way they can survive is to believe their poison is not a vile malignant curse but an acceptable way to wish harm and inspire hatred on fellow human beings. Some are more equal than others is their game.

    Sorry Celtic post.

    I saw the last 10 minutes of the first half and most of the second half of last nights game on the excellent Celtic TV.

    Early on, Rogic and Lustig were stand out for me.

    The scale and nature of the substitutions resulted in an under 20s team who didn’t look that great. Perhaps it was an urgency to impress, but most to me seemed rushed and unable to hold the ball. Every 50-50 seemed to go their way.poor referee btw

    I’m far from a critic of our clubs youth development but I saw a team of kids who seemed to be a bit panicked

    Poverty?

    ————————————————————————————————————

    When you are the third/fourth generation who have never worked, no matter what the state of the economy at any given time.

    When getting ‘up the duff’ is an automatic passport to a house paid for by Housing Benefit, grants for furniture etc, and a chunk of weekly/ fortnightly cash to boot, via Income Support, Child Benefit and Child Tax Credits.

    Other working youngsters have to stay at home until they can afford to either rent, or, buy a place to live.

    When some kids leave school with never any intention of working, because no one in their family has ever worked – signing-on is their only career move. They call it “ma(my) money”

    When people who never paid their Poll Tax get off ‘scot free’ for coming out of their ‘boltholes’ and voting for the SNP It was the rest of us who did pay the unfair tax, that kept local services for the young, old, sick and disabled functioning.

    When benefit goes on 50″ TVs, XBoxes, Fags, Booze, Drugs and Tattoos and the foodbank is used to feed the household members.

    When people wilfully choose not to work and take handouts on the back of those who do work, they deserve all the POVERTY they get – unfortunately they don’t get real poverty.

    Those in genuine need deserve all the help that society can afford to give them and should not be ‘tarred with the same brush’ as the career benefit-shysters.

    Don’t let anyone come back and say that I am having a go at the deserving poor – I most definitely NOT.

    Example DD is on the board, when was the last time he’s been seen at Celtic park, what qualifies him to be picking up a wage as a board member, he is only a shareholder like me and every other shareholder, he might have more than me but really so what. He’s still just a shareholder like me.

    There’s many on here who hate politics being introduced into our club but ignore the politics imposed on our club by very rich people it’s like they have a right to impose their politics because they are rich. g4s is the biggest independent security firm in the world owned by DD, in every country they operate they pay minimum wage only when they are require to by law else they pay as low as possible and where possible impose slavery on employees where they can get away with it, politics of the fascist, take money to advertise political parties election campaigns, enforce political statements like the poppy or minutes silence for political dignitaries, aye respect but that’s not what we pay for, we pay to watch the Celtic play football, no ?

    Yet we get political pish rammed down our throat every time we look at an advertisement board, or have the police tell us to behave, worse is having the security firms we pay for telling us we are not allowed to sing songs that have been sung for decades because the latest political fashion is to stop being political, assaulting out sensibilities and we are not allowed to respond except to be compliant and thankful that they gave out details to the authorities so we can get dragged out wur bed at 5 in the morning to satisfy another political agenda.

    Every ad you look at is a political statement, it’s fascists telling you their capitalism is the only way and you need to accept that totalitarianism, it does not tolerate dissent.

    But it’s our way of life cause we’re used to being second class citizens int that right.

    Worse we have judas goats bleating their butt-plug sycophancy is the only way to make Celtic strong, fcuk them that’s what I say :)

    Be non conformist and make a difference.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I remember, sketchily, bringing John Reid into the Conversation on CQN about him being very high up on G4S, after I’d heard his name mentioned on a Fundamentalist Christian website, that I listen to, often, they were talking about the Body Scanners being installed in America and touched on what you have just said.
    I see under the circumstances stable, not strong, results in the balance sheet.
    I see reasonable not fantastic results on the field.
    I see hope and plans to improve the team on the park.
    I see a strategy which enables us to currently dominate Scottish football and which is designed to make us competitive in Europe.
    CL or Europa level, I don’t really mind. A Europa run could be more beneficial in improving the coefficient for future CL campaigns.
    This is brought about by a strong backroom team in the football and financial areas.
    Apart from Peter and Ian, of course I’m on first name terms with them ;-) I don’t know who else is working in the bowels of the CP engine room.
