Jetsam, flotsam and aggregated insight

752

Great to see so many names from years ago back on the blog yesterday.  As well as the jetsam and flotsam of life at Celtic, there have been times when the blog has had real value to the few, and occasionally, to the many.  Once or twice, we’ve made a real difference to our club.

Our ability to add value correlates directly with the great contributions which appear here; sometimes when people offer remarkable insight, sometimes when many aggregate their thoughts to analyse an issue.

My guess is that there will be moments in the next decade when that insight and aggregation will be needed, so thanks to everyone who keeps the place sane through the flotsam days, before the biggies emerge.  Thanks also for yesterday’s enormous support.  The untold stories of acts of kindness and generosity from the community over the decade are so numerous they are no longer exceptional.  It’s a great place to be a part of.

There are changes ahead.  A new blog design is on the way and the Quick News section will retire this summer.  Canajunbhoy has exclusively posted the section in the wee small hours for the best part of the decade, so he more than deserves peace to hang up his keyboard.  My sincere thanks for all his help.

CQteN was an enormous success and built three school kitchens in Malawi for Mary’s Meals (photos from the last two are on the way).  It was also enormous fun.  We’re going to do it again, although I’m not sure yet if it has the legs to be an annual event/bi-annual or other.  Open to ideas.

““We will win the Champions Division this season and be back in the Premiership soon kicking the stuffing out of Celtic . . . I don’t wear anything green,” said fan Steve Paton.

“Paton said he fully expects fans in Celtic green to be at Centennial Stadium for the sole purpose of rooting against Rxxxxxs. “This will be massive,” he said. “Almost everybody born in Scotland doesn’t live there anymore.”

So the burning questions are who is going to put the lights out when the last person leaves Scotland.

And who are all those Canadian Tims who can’t wait to see Sally’s puddings.

I have been very busy of late and have not had the chance to congratulate and thank you for 10 years of pleasure.

But mainly for bringing me closer to the action as far as the bhoys are concerned.

Your charity work has brought me to tears many times and I am in awe of it.

You know me I like a good moan and I am a disciple of the jungle and will forever remain so. My faith in Man has waned more than my faith in Celtic and fellow tims.

Anyway want you to know that.

    Happy anniversary.

CQN has been a daily mainstay for 9 years now for myself and have always ducked in daily even though I personally only post very occasionally.

It would be good to reflect what the key (and other stand out) blogs have been over the years. Keen to know what you and other contributors consider were memorable.

    BRTH ,

Congrats to the Georgeous Moira Ord.

As you know, I recall both your mum and GMO from my St.Augustine’s days.

I was one of the victims of her team of assassins, aka the Under 14s Hockey team.

On a Saturday morning, as we made our way to our respective pitches, we would playfully and in a sporting manner, take the hockey balls off the girls.

Completely against the spirit of the fun, they would attack our ankles with those weapons that they wield in their game.

    Vicious little vixens, they were.

Anyway, well done to an International sporting giant.

Wish her well from an old admirer.

  12. On improving the match day experience market researchers working for Celtic held some meetings last week with supporters from across the support spectrum to try and identify what might make folk more likely to want to attend.

Apart from providing exciting football tackling heavy policing was high on the list and that from a mix of old and young supporters.

Interesting that the advice from long term supporters is that they would support regardless although it would be nice to feel appreciated and that Celtic needed to attract those less ” die hard” in nature.

The consensus was improve the match day experience to do that with lots of sensible suggestions being made.

The folk conducting the sessions will report back to Celtic and that will be interesting, but the most encouraging thing for me is that Celtic are actually doing some market research to see what improvements can be made.

I lobbed in some of the views expressed here that seemed relevant to the aims of the session.

Vision, spread the load, summer fitbaw, better match day facilities etc.
