Joe Baker, Hargreaves, Fraser, playing to the galleries

908

Neil Lennon’s suggestion that fostering Fraser Forster from a lower-league loaner to an England international is “one of the best things [he’s] been involved with as a manager” is difficult to dispute, despite his various trophies and Champions League exploits.

Owen Hargreaves earned an England cap before he made an appearance in either of England’s top two divisions, although he was playing with European champions, Bayern Munich at the time.  Hargreaves and Lanarkshire’s Joe Baker are the only two to have been capped for England without playing in any of the country’s four leagues.  I’ve no idea if there are any others to have earned a cap without having played in the top two division but there must be precious few.

In short, Fraser’s appearance between the sticks on Friday was exceptional.  We can now help fulfil the international ambitions of English players, just as long as we continue to compete in the Champions League.

Playing to the galleries

There’s a great line in the movie, Wall St, when Martin Sheen says, “If you live long enough you get to see everything”.  Today we got to see the incredible sight of Craig Whyte’s former PR, who represented him before and during his Outstanding Contribution to Scotland, who in fact, represented him well before this, when Whyte was stalking STV as they teetered on the brink of oblivion, use Twitter to turn on another member of the Whyte coterie, for being a part of the Whyte coterie.

It reads like playing to the gallery, which the Daily Record, is a particularly useful punch bag for.  No one cares what you say about the Daily Record, so exploit a common enemy and pile on.  Tub thumping like this is embarrassing.

Puppet master

It will be interesting to see if the Record investigate who first suggested Whyte turned his attention to Rangers, after his STV ambitions ended….

  2. We owe you money? Sorry we are dead. You want to pay us? Very much alive.

I had the misfortune to listen to Radio Clyde tonight state as fact that the SFA and UEFA do not see Rangers as a new club. Actauly the cowardly Lion at the SFA, Mr Reagan has said folk can make their own mind up and UEFA to my mind have said nothing of the sort. Lies to protect more lies. This will be their undoing.

To get that particular monkey off their back, yes.

Although, I don’t think this incarnation of the huns will pay it as they’re skint.

Once the next admin is over the reel watp, no surrender brigade will pay it so they can continue with the illusion they are the same club. Only in the eyes of their supporters and the lamb eaters will this be regarded as the truth.

They can shout from the rooftops that they are the same club, all they will be doing is telling porkies.

Let them do it, if they do, that imo, will be the ruination of scottish football, and the sooner it’s in the crapper the better imo.

It will bring us closer to an out.

  7. Re Nimmo Smith Fines, is it not the case that Newco, as part of the 5 way Agreement, said that they would pay all football debts of the Old Co? Is this not part of the outstanding debts?

  8. If your all so cut up about that lot why not collect money to take them to court,I’ll put money into the kitty.

Let it run it’s course. There’s no sense fretting about it, we’ll get an answer sometime, but it won’t be soon, this has a long way to run.

There’s a lot of comments about us not talking about football, what gets discussed is mundane things, but it breaks the monotony of listening about that lot every day.

What the SPFL board believes gives it the right to go after the £400k is the five-way agreement. Has anyone admitted in the public domain that the five-way agreement even exists? Has any of the parties (two of which are the same club, naturally), ever said anything in public about what they all agreed to?

I don’t remember if they have.

What I do remember is that no document I have ever seen on the subject makes the distinction between Sevco and Rangers more clearly and more repeatedly than the draft of the five-way agreement that Charlotte published on the internet. It may or may not be authentic.

    Evening all

Earlier this evening a few of us attended a meeting regarding the recent events in Amsterdam and the current plight of the 8 Celtic supporters who have been charged and bailed and the 2 who still remain in custody in Holland. The main purpose of the meeting was to make arrangements for a bucket collection which will help establish a legal defence fund and enable all those involved to have appropriate representation when their cases go to trial.

Eight of those charged, including Andy and Padraig who remain in prison, will appear in court on Thursday, while the other 2 will have to wait until January before their cases are held.

A Dutch lawyer has agreed to represent all of those charged and he will be flying to Glasgow tomorrow (Tuesday) to take statements and meet with those involved. Clearly, his expertise and skills will not come cheaply and consequently the idea of a bucket collection came about as a means of meeting these costs.

Celtic Football Club has been extremely helpful so far and indeed have granted permission for those involved to collect within the stadium itself, the first time that this has been allowed. However, for this to be a success it is essential that there are sufficient volunteers with buckets to gather money from those wishing to make donations…..and this is where you can help!

If you are able to give up a few hours of your time on Saturday up until kick off then I implore you to register your interest at Dambhoys8@yahoo.co.uk

All evidence so far, suggests that these were completely innocent Celtic supporters who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The purpose of the collection is to allow the Legal Defence Fund not to only give these bhoys the opportunity of a fair hearing but also to expose, where applicable any alleged brutality and negligence of the Dutch police and authorities.
