Joe Baker, Hargreaves, Fraser, playing to the galleries

908

Neil Lennon’s suggestion that fostering Fraser Forster from a lower-league loaner to an England international is “one of the best things [he’s] been involved with as a manager” is difficult to dispute, despite his various trophies and Champions League exploits.

Owen Hargreaves earned an England cap before he made an appearance in either of England’s top two divisions, although he was playing with European champions, Bayern Munich at the time.  Hargreaves and Lanarkshire’s Joe Baker are the only two to have been capped for England without playing in any of the country’s four leagues.  I’ve no idea if there are any others to have earned a cap without having played in the top two division but there must be precious few.

In short, Fraser’s appearance between the sticks on Friday was exceptional.  We can now help fulfil the international ambitions of English players, just as long as we continue to compete in the Champions League.

Playing to the galleries

There’s a great line in the movie, Wall St, when Martin Sheen says, “If you live long enough you get to see everything”.  Today we got to see the incredible sight of Craig Whyte’s former PR, who represented him before and during his Outstanding Contribution to Scotland, who in fact, represented him well before this, when Whyte was stalking STV as they teetered on the brink of oblivion, use Twitter to turn on another member of the Whyte coterie, for being a part of the Whyte coterie.

It reads like playing to the gallery, which the Daily Record, is a particularly useful punch bag for.  No one cares what you say about the Daily Record, so exploit a common enemy and pile on.  Tub thumping like this is embarrassing.

Puppet master

It will be interesting to see if the Record investigate who first suggested Whyte turned his attention to Rangers, after his STV ambitions ended….

  1. big nan @ 10:36,

On the money, how this guy has been allowed to virtually be teleported away from the scene without having a single question asked beggars belief, both him and their former EBT indebted manager, who also seems to be immune from any questions. IMHO these shenanigans have been going on for a lot longer than most of us appreciate.

The bigger the crowd the better surely and we need all the people (not ‘Ra Peepil’ though) coming through the turnstiles that we can get.

Fair point, but what’s wrong with telling the truth?

And if the reaction from the huns is such a concern-and I agree that it is-it would be self-defeating for them.

Can’t handle the truth, resort to violence. Watch their support from the Establishment disappear.

I was just talking to a guy at work there and he said that Celtic need a captain and I have been banging on here about Roy Aitken type player for a couple of seasons.

If you could bring one player from the past though and put him in the current side who would it be?

I would bring Paul McStay in myself but I am one of his biggest fans.

Henrik is the obvious choice but Paul McStay was a fine player in his day and a great Celt.

Would love to see boss the midfield in the Champions League.

For me,despite my moniker,it would be George Connelly.

A fit and focused George Connelly, not the one who retired at 26.

I shall tell ye when I have an hour or two to spare:-)

I’ll tell ye a player I liked when I was a wee bhoy. Alex Edwards. Great player. Of players I’d like to have seen at CP, he topped my list. I think he played in a European game when he was only 15. Maybe 16, but very young anyhow.

Left winger in the very good Hibs side in the early 70s?

Aye,very good player. But he might have had a wee bit of opposition for the jersey at the time!

    So is this.

  12. Since it’s a slow news day, here are a couple of facts you never knew……… and will wish you never did:-)

My local Junior team Whitburn juniors (who incidentally won the junior cup in 2000), signed John Greig although he never played for them. He was signed as a favour basically, to allow him to return to junior football had he failed to make the grade at Ibrox.

The ” enclosure” in Central Park was built just after world war 2 in 1946. It was taken f from the Polish army camp on Polkemmet Estate.

Charles Green is yer man if you are selling yer history.

And seeing as he now resides in France and has cut his ties with Sevco, they, ahem … no longer have any history.

if we think back to when the huns died, they were liquidated because they couldnt agree a CVA and couldnt come out of administration. That was the issue that ruined their cunning plan, otherwise they would have ditched the debt and still be in the SPL debt free.

everyone (except our own MSM) knows sevco are now heading full steam towards administration . Sevco COULD try, in advance, to make sure that they can agree a CVA with their creditors

would one way of manipulating that CVA vote might be for example by friendly parties suing the club, (that the main creditors on paper are actually sevco stooges.)

That way sevco can manipulate how the CVA vote will go. Of course they couldnt do that with hector the taxman

since they have spent so much money they can reasonably expect to be 15 points clear of the pack and still gain promotion despite being in administration and maybe out again weeks later debt free

if necessary sevco mark 2 then repeat the scam next season in the next league until they arrive in the spl and can charge any remaining fans the full price for a season ticket

    whats to stop them?

    whos to stop them?

    if not us?

Only 16 and has 5 goals this season.. Surely we must be keeping tabs on him ? Any info on who his boyhood team is…

  17. The fine is old and yet unpaid, what’s puzzling is the BBC reporting it as a news story,
inferring Should Sevco have to pay?

They know they have to pay it, otherwise there would be no Sevco licence.

The good bit is Sevco haven’t got the money to pay it.
