Joe Baker, Hargreaves, Fraser, playing to the galleries

908

Neil Lennon’s suggestion that fostering Fraser Forster from a lower-league loaner to an England international is “one of the best things [he’s] been involved with as a manager” is difficult to dispute, despite his various trophies and Champions League exploits.

Owen Hargreaves earned an England cap before he made an appearance in either of England’s top two divisions, although he was playing with European champions, Bayern Munich at the time.  Hargreaves and Lanarkshire’s Joe Baker are the only two to have been capped for England without playing in any of the country’s four leagues.  I’ve no idea if there are any others to have earned a cap without having played in the top two division but there must be precious few.

In short, Fraser’s appearance between the sticks on Friday was exceptional.  We can now help fulfil the international ambitions of English players, just as long as we continue to compete in the Champions League.

Playing to the galleries

There’s a great line in the movie, Wall St, when Martin Sheen says, “If you live long enough you get to see everything”.  Today we got to see the incredible sight of Craig Whyte’s former PR, who represented him before and during his Outstanding Contribution to Scotland, who in fact, represented him well before this, when Whyte was stalking STV as they teetered on the brink of oblivion, use Twitter to turn on another member of the Whyte coterie, for being a part of the Whyte coterie.

It reads like playing to the gallery, which the Daily Record, is a particularly useful punch bag for.  No one cares what you say about the Daily Record, so exploit a common enemy and pile on.  Tub thumping like this is embarrassing.

Puppet master

It will be interesting to see if the Record investigate who first suggested Whyte turned his attention to Rangers, after his STV ambitions ended….

The scary thing is though that the terms of my petition could have been harmfully abbreviated if I had given in to this demand.

It is also scary how the 10 page counter-petition from the Grand Lodge Masons didn’t have to meet the regulations on brevity having almost 3-times my word content!

  8. The FFP Regs and the financial madness of the EPL (and let’s not forget the big 2 in Spain also) has to be addressed – and soon!

What I can’t figure from my c&p article is the talk of donating the FFP fines to charity. Agree it should not be distributed among the other top sides – if applied, the money should be redirected to the lower reaches of the game or grassroots level. It should be allocated in the form of ‘grants’ for better training facilities, 3/4G pitches etc.

In essence – the money these clubs have overspent is supporters’ monies. Fans pay for; the excessive ticket prices, merchandise and pay-for TV and rightly it should be returned to them.

  15. Learning to Play The Celtic Way in Derry

By: Newsroom Staff on 18 Nov, 2013 12:27

It was all about ‘Playing the Celtic Way’ for football coaches of teams in the Derry & District Youth League on Saturday when Willie McNab of the Celtic Development Academy visited Ireland to deliver the latest in a series of coaching events aimed at developing young talent in the finest traditions of Celtic Football Club.

Willie was delighted to accept an invitation from the largest football association in the region to host a Coach Education Course where he passed on the intellect and methodology used by Celtic to develop talent from youth level through to first team.

The coaches benefited from theoretical and practical sessions where they learned best-practice drills and training routines aimed at developing skills and maximising touch-time on the ball.

It’s all part of the Club’s commitment to reaching out to the world-wide community to help educate and develop players of all ages and abilities, while promoting the Celtic brand.

The course was attended by 15 coaches and was hailed a great success by Michael Hutton, Chairman of the Derry & District Youth League who said:

“This marks a wonderful moment in the history of Derry & District youth FA as we welcomed Willie Mc Nab from Celtic FC to Brandywell to deliver a partnership presentation and practical session to the coaches of our Association and to our Under-14 Derry Colts Youth team.

“There has been a long relationship between Ireland and Celtic and it is great to see Celtic FC putting such store by Irish football, to set up these working partnerships throughout Ireland at club, League and Association levels.

“It will be of immense benefit to all our kids and Celtic FC and as a result of this development, more kids will aspire to play for this great Scottish club.”

Saturday’s event was part of an ongoing partnership which will provide opportunities for teams in the Derry & District Youth League to host Celtic soccer schools in Derry as well as participate in team tours to Celtic, which involve training sessions with Celtic coaches, a stadium tour and attending a match.

To find out more about the Celtic soccer schools or to enquire about a team tour to Celtic FC then contact Willie McNab on 0141 551 4335

    The Funeral

SPL chairmen cried like babies at the funeral of deidco. They thought it was the end of their world and they wondered how they could continue living without deidco giving them money so generously. Even now they wish for a return to the days when deidco were around.

Campbell Ogilvie was at the funeral too, he was a very close friend of the deceased and he continues to be. Some of his finest moments died along with the corpse. He survives.

Charles Green organised and paid for the funeral, with someone elses money that he later got back in other ways.

David Murray did not attend. He was apparently duped about something, so he didn’t go in case he appeared foolish and folk maybe thought he had something to do with the untimely death. Which he denies.

Ticketus went to the funeral to try understand exactly who Charles Green and Craig Whyte had put in the coffin, just in case. They are still waiting for the reading of the will.

Craig Whyte however, was barred from the funeral by close friends of the deceased because the sevconians had declared him Personna Non Gratia and feel that he murdered poor deidco in cold blood.

Dr Duff and Dr Phelps were there, they had tried to save the ailing patient from a fate worse than death, but eventually just settled for death instead. They no longer practice.

HMRC were not welcome at the funeral, it was felt that they had been a party to the murder and anyway they had RC in their name. This hurt HMRC and they hope to clear their name.

Ally McCoist went to the service and he still stands by the grave to this day, He doesn’t do walking away. He occasionally robs the grave when he thinks no one is looking.

The MSM attended the funeral and took lots of photos, but got so drunk at the wake that they now forget that they were there, and can only remember more succulent times.

Reagan and Doncaster weren’t at the funeral of the deidco. Apparently, because they were too busy helping to give birth to Frankenhun. They may now regret creating that monster.

The fans of the other Scottish clubs looked in the coffin and declared “theyre deid” and then walked away satisfied that justice was done.

The Celtic fans danced and ate ice cream and Jelly at the funeral.

The huns fans declared that their messiah was not deid, and that he would rise again and that the non-believers would pay a heavy price. Now some say that the dead have risen, some say that a stone was rolled away, some say that the Frankenhun, son of the hun is not sevco, some say that the son of the hun is rangers reborn. Some believe the hun never even died.

    They talk shoite though.

Bang on in your assessment of Peter Lawell playing the AGM crowd like a fiddle with his Rory comparison ( which is an old joke from when the CVA was rejected at Deadclub btw).

Will qualify that last statement by saying not all of the crowd would have lapped it up.I wasn’t there ….but when you consider Lawell’s absent gaffer’s opinion on needing The Orcs back in the top league, then we realise that was about all the slack Dermot would have cut him the night before the AGM, in their phone call about what he was allowed to say to deflect he real issues and placate the masses.

It was no ad lib remark….Lawell aint no Kevin Bridges mate.

Totally obvious and scripted…..so obvious that Stevie Wonder would have seen it coming.

    +++++++++++++++++++

    Folks

What I take from that is that you believe Dermott Desmond wants Rangers/RIFC back in the SPFL because …….?

He is a closet RIFC supporter?

I doubt that is what you think, so more likely it is because of DD’s love of money.

It is now a clear and inarguable fact that Celtic will coin it in over the next few years because of regular access to CL money. The biggest risk to that access (apart from not maintaining or improving the player stock quality to reduce the risk of not getting access to CL), is the return of an uncorrected Rangers operating under an uncorrected SFA, as they both seek to find ways (that on past behaviour will amount to cheating) to overcome the advantage Celtic now have.

So if DD is a shrewed chap and he loves money, just where in that equation does that equal a desire to see RIFC in the top fold and why would Celtic not be happy to see the SFA corrected?

The reason why DD or PL or Celtic do not say they are delighted with things as they stand can be found in the RIFC reaction to PL’s Rory Bremner comment, but in that comment PL let slip out his delight and amusement.

I know some long held world views are hard to send aff oot, but the world has changed and its catch up time.
