Judge King plan by those who father it

950

I’ve no affection for Real Madrid but was delighted for them, and Carlo Ancelotti in particular, last night.  It’s getting to the stage that it’s impossible to figure out who the best team in Europe actually is.

Bayern Munich’s season has been historic.  They swept aside German competitors with record-breaking ease on their way to what looked like them becoming the first team to retain Europe’s top crown in its Champions League format.  Real were irresistible.  Let’s hope for a Madrid final before the Lions in Lisbon next month.

After yesterday’s blog I heard that more journalistic allies from Anderston Quay have flocked to Dave King’s camp, including that Leggat (sp?) guy, who used to entertain many.

I’ve heard more theories as to what the Sevco board and the group trying to run their club into the ground are planning that I care to remember, but when you look at the team King in particular has pulled together, you would be forgiven for concluding there is no masterplan worthy of the name.

We can’t always judge a man by the company he keeps but we can just a strategy by those who fathered it.

Prediction: King will kill Sevco then fall on his arse.  Bump.

Here we Go for 10 In a Row!

Applications for the 10th annual CQN charity golf day, which will take place in Aberdour Golf Club on Friday 4th July, will close this Friday, 2nd May.

As ever it will be oversubscribed so if you would like to attend, email BlantyreKev and Taggsy at cqnopen10IAR@gmx.co.uk before Friday.  Cost for the full day’s entertainment including golf is £80.  There are a very limited number of non-golfer evening places at £45.  Further detail will be released nearer the date and when places confirmed.

Over the course of the season I’ve read lots of comment about the values we should aspire to as a club, specifically when it comes to alleviating poverty, both in our own community, and abroad.  CQN’ers responded incredibly to our Malawi school kichen(s) appeal, which dwarfed our work at home.

The Charity Foundation are selling badges (£1 each) before the Dundee United game on 11 May to raise funds to feed the poor and hungry in and around Glasgow.  I have volunteered as a coordinator on the day and have offered to help recruit around 100 to sell badges before the game.

This will be trophy presentation day – but the trophy isn’t coming out until after the game, so you’ll not miss any of the flesh-on-silver action.

If you are able to get involved in this initiative, which strikes the core of what we think of ourselves as a Movement, email your details to cfcfvolunteer@celticfc.co.uk .

Thank you.

It was 1999 – I remember it quite well. The poor lad had strong Donegal connections I think and was so unlucky, minding his own business and was in the wrong place at the wrong time in th south side…..God rest his soul.

And that was them when they won – it has always struck me that many of them had a different attitude on ‘celebrating’ from us……we like to get into our own company, sing and have a good drink together…..many of them on the other hand had to find Celts in which to confront, intimidate…….

They are not missed, they are knackered with a capital “F” and I am delighted for them.

  5. I think it’s understandable that John Fallon should have an initial sceptical opinion on Fraser Forster. John was not alone as the Celtic support could, on the whole, only view him through the prism of being Newcastle’s 3rd choice, therefore, he could not be good enough.

Big John was a brave and athletic keeper. Fraser, with all his physical advantages, was a hesitant and conservative keeper, as most are these days. Big John played in the days where goalies could be and were physically challenged, even if they had control of the ball. It must have been galling for him to see a keeper electing not to leave his 6 yard box in case he was impeded (or in Jamie Carragher speech, impeeeeeded) in getting there. The holy Goalie will have had thoughts of what he would have done to cut through the crowd.

However, though players are not more physical these days, they are a lot more clever in how they legitimately block or impeeeeed a keeper. I have seen many more goals lost in modern football by a keeper who goes sailing out with little hope of reaching the ball and deprives the goalmouth area of the advantage of having a keeper who can use his hands. Most modern goalie coaches advise that the keeper stay put unless he is 100% sure he can reach and clear the ball, and just let the defensive ball-headers win their challenges.

That combination of humble sourcing (3rd choice at an unrespected club) and refusal to use his physical advantages as the fans thought he should, led to FF being marked down in their estimation.

IMO, FF was never as bad as painted and is not yet as good as some rate currently. For me, he is joint with Artur as Celtic’s best keeper in my lifetime and he is worthy of a place in Hodgson’s squad, arguably as no.2 keeper. However, he is not yet quite as good as Joe Hart nor is he head and shoulders above the standards currently shown by two ex-Celt goalies, Boruc and Marshall.

Fraser’s penalty save against Hearts brought a lot of fans round to a different evaluation of Fraser’s ability but I do not believe it made a blind bit of difference to Fraser’s opinion of himself or his team mates opinions of him.

Anybody who was not aware of FF’s record on loan at Norwich was not surprised by his ability. Anybody who saw his performance in the Europa League, especially against Atletico Madrid, did not need a Hearts penalty save to convince them. There are many average keepers who have a good penalty save record.

Unfortunately, Fraser is good, and like Stoke’s Begovic and Cardiff’s Marshall, there will be plenty of suitors for his service. He is a hard working, hard training keeper with an insatiable appetite for self-improvement. He is the goalie equivalent of the young Kevin Keegan in that regard.

We are likely to have to source a new keeper soon. There is no-one playing SPFL football just now of the required standard so we will have to look in England and overseas if FF is tempted away by serious money.

Those that are praying that we have our current goalie and back four for next season’s CL qualifiers in July are, I fear, likely to be disappointed. I just hope that there is another Broto level keeper out there who can be a 7 out of 10 type keeper to replace FF’s 8.5 out of 10 level.

  11. Serious giant question for you all.

How did it come to this for thems?

I mean the consensus on here is that Scottish football (many of you would say much wider) authorities had an intrinsic affinity and associated links to the now dead club.

How did this Scottish establishment allow their friends in the south (esp inland revenue) to go about touching the untouchable club. Or least provide rfc rip with a timely tip off?

Wow they messed up. An ‘epic fail’ in the system of centuries-old sectarian nepotism as my wee Bhoy might say ( well the ‘epic fail’ bit!)

Nice to take a step back and survey the mayhem.

    Karma, as you said Livibhoy!

With added hubris for good measure.

  12. I’m nit sure administration should automatically prevent promotion.

Here’s a real life scenario. A friend was running a pub, and things were tight but ok. After two years, he discovers there’s a 2nd leccy meter. Hidden in the cellar away from the other one, and behind some stuff. The subsequent bill is £13k. It forces him out of business.

Hypothetically any club could get hit with a bill or payment out of nowhere that’s nothing to do with football and may arrive despite them running things properly.

I’m not sure it’s fair that promotion should be prevented in such cases.

    ===============================

This Hibs team would struggle to compete in the Championship without Hearts or Newco and if they do go down, any half decent players in their ranks will be cherry picked by the Prem clubs.

They had better hope they don’t go down but between them and Kilmarnock I think one of them is destined for it… Thistle at times are capable of good passing football and Ross County have more fight than Hibs. Mind you my granny has more fight than this Hibs team.

Shocking for what should be one of the clubs challenging for the major honours.

Last nights yellow warning reminded me of the days of running an under 12s football team .

The boys would always come running to me to report that some other boy had said something naughty to them, invariably I would tell the story carriers not to worry too much and concentrate on their football .

I have grown too love this blog ,but must say that some posters take themselves and indeed the blog itself way too seriously .

When De Niro took the part, director Brian De Palma mailed Hoskins a cheque for £20,000 with a “Thank You” note, which prompted Hoskins to call up De Palma and ask him if there were any more movies he didn’t want him to be in”
