Jullien, Forrest and recuperation periods

563

We are already at the stage of the season when a return of Christopher Jullien or James Forrest would have little impact on the outcome.  It will take a scheduling miracle for the Scottish Cup to reach its latter stages before club football ends to allow players to join international squads ahead of the Euros, so the news that Chris is likely to be in recuperation until the start of next season is no real hardship.

The return of James will be a welcome sight but it is hard to see any big picture relevance, no matter how brilliant he plays.  Celtic players get little time to allow limbs to rest and recuperate, this is one such period.

Sunday night in Dingwall is the very last place in Scotland’s tourist trail, apart from the Celtic squad, who will arrive looking for their sixth successive win this month.

Ross County have not played in two weeks since defeat to Dundee United, a period that has seen Hamilton collect 5 points to put the Highlanders bottom of the table.  History records that they were the team who stopped Celtic’s run of 12 consecutive domestic trophies, when they eliminated us from the League Cup during the disastrous month of November.  We owe them one.

1)Who was the Celtic keeper to have his penalty saved v Airdrie 1963?

*the goalie that saved it was brought up 100 yards fae Evan Williams, his bhoy is a Celtic supporter living in Oz.

  2. Allen McKnight’s dad got death threats when he signed for us,I think his business got attacked as well

did the boat, or any other boats leave from the port and greenock, any memories of this ?

*having a granny that made her way fae Clifden tae Dumbarton, not via Dublin either, I was led tae believe that initially where you were on the boat is where you got aff, it was not until the travelers had family in the mainland that they could choose their exit.

First in line was Greenock, then Dumbarton and eventually the Broomielaw.

Watching Burnley v West Brom. Apart from West Brom’s away strip

As much as I agree with what Neil said re, Sturgeon. It should have been the coward who said it’not NL.”

I`ve got a feeling that if `the coward` had said it, he would have been criticised for not having said it earlier/more forcefully/more critically/etc

*Mibbees just mibbbes the Kaiser is tellin Neil tae redeem himself in front of the support by going after the government and thereby ensuring his place next season.

After all he’s been scheitd this season, big PL is for the Joe the Toff so it’s possibly no his remit now.

  6. lets all do the huddle on

Watching Burnley v West Brom. Apart from West Brom’s away strip, there is nothing worth watching. Dire stuff and, I’m sure, both with many millions in the bank or on the field.

sounds a great game going by paul mersons reactions on sky!!

Tontine Tim I worked in the West End Bar. Owned by a Donegal gent who I adored. I drank in the Dunty mostly, and O’ Donnells

*O’Donnell’s had a photie of Stevie’s winner in Lisbon behind the bar. No idea where the West End Bar was though.

When I worked up there I would get the bus fae Clydebank or Singers Station, if it was a Hardgate or Faifley get off at Hardgate Cross and walk along Dumbarton Road, brutal on the wet mornings as it was quite open at the time, a Duntocher or the 86 Castlehill would take me intae Beeches Road and then a short walk up tae the site.

Only had a drink in Dicks or O’Donnell after I turned 18, I had an auntie that lived there so wisnae taking any chances of being caught.

As I mentioned before I won the apprentice of the year award the day after we beat Liverpool 1-0 and was out of there that day never to return, amazingly that was the longest job I was ever on, I started out in Cochno Road and then walked over tae there when that scheme was finished, Georgie Fame was Number 1 in the charts at the time, “She said yeah yeah”.

  8. Tontine – Frank Haffey – I was at the game- thought it was 65 – seem to recall Big Jock had returned

the Dundee United goalie in the 80’s used to take their penalties. Can’t remember if he did it permanently but remember him missing one against us and 🏃🏃🏃🏃 back to his goal, mental or what😵😱

Good to see Ross County will not lose ground to Hamilton and Kilmarnock when we beat them tomorrow.

Memory playing tricks on me – 63 – the penalty miss (save) still in my mind – my second season going to CP – I was five!

i would not be able to verify if the boat would have stopped at newark or the Port.I would vouch she would have shared the boat with cattle.

it would not suprise me if those boats did stop, maybe picking up cargo and some passengers.

john kelly in his fascinating book Irish suggests boats coming round the tail of bank were so packed in they were known as “the boat of faces” as they looked gaunt escaping hunger and death.

i will try look out some stuff for you and post.

  14. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Interesting posts on here recently re Brentford FC.

I’m a big believer in learning from clubs who are doing things better than we are and whose efforts deliver the kind of success we crave for Celtic.

Brentford’s list of trophies won is instructive – I’ve taken the liberty of copying and pasting them below.

The Lairds Loch usually stopped at the Princes Pier in Greenock, especially at the Greenock Fair. Eventually there was a daily light sailing from Derry on the last Saturday of the Greenock Fair. The Greenockians, Port Tonians and Gourockians were disembarked at Princes Pier and then the boat went on up to Glasgow to pick up the people from all round who were going to Ireland for the Glasgow Fair.

  16. I am really angry at the total feck up our recruitment is .

Is it Hammond or Lennon , or both to blame .

What a stomach churning fecking waste of tens of Millions .

    Barkas , Klimala,Ajeti , Duffy and Laxalt .

Who made the decision to sign Ajeti over Toney?

Toney will now cost £20m to £30m .

Recently we have also wasted millions on Bayo , Shved , Hendry , Bolingoli, Taylor , Bauer, Elhamed.

I am actually sick to my stomach.

  17. Watched the sheep ,Killie game today , that rob McLean during the half time chat happened to mention the non penalty on Wednesday night , And a short back and sides Santa said Allan muir hasn’t given a penalty against Celtic in over 30 games , probably because they had nothing about the game to talk about . But Wullie Garner recons Aberdeen have a good chance on wednesday going by the pressure they put us under midweek . Our performance puts confidence in other teams , we should be burying these teams.

    ——–

I don’t think there’s any quotes from Toney that he wanted to come to us.

He said he wanted to play at a higher level, and wanted to play in the EPL.

No EPL team came in for him, so Brentford was his next best offer as they have recent history of a pathway to he EPL riches.

So, I don’t think it was a case of Toney or Ajeti.

Saying all that, Ajeti looks a dud, his face when he was subbed midweek was pathetic. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s gone in the summer.

  21. THE HUDDLE

Who do you think would sign Ajeti in the summer and for how much?

He and Christie look like one million pound players to me at best.

  22. My team for tomorrow
