Jullien, Forrest and recuperation periods

563

We are already at the stage of the season when a return of Christopher Jullien or James Forrest would have little impact on the outcome.  It will take a scheduling miracle for the Scottish Cup to reach its latter stages before club football ends to allow players to join international squads ahead of the Euros, so the news that Chris is likely to be in recuperation until the start of next season is no real hardship.

The return of James will be a welcome sight but it is hard to see any big picture relevance, no matter how brilliant he plays.  Celtic players get little time to allow limbs to rest and recuperate, this is one such period.

Sunday night in Dingwall is the very last place in Scotland’s tourist trail, apart from the Celtic squad, who will arrive looking for their sixth successive win this month.

Ross County have not played in two weeks since defeat to Dundee United, a period that has seen Hamilton collect 5 points to put the Highlanders bottom of the table.  History records that they were the team who stopped Celtic’s run of 12 consecutive domestic trophies, when they eliminated us from the League Cup during the disastrous month of November.  We owe them one.

  1. In my student days I worked in a pub in Duntocher….

….I noticed the older gents would order a half an’ a Wee Fowlers…it looked like a bottled stout……

….in their ain words they had this “before they had a drink” ……….a kind of a warm -up……… :) there was one wee character – a pass-keeper at St Mary’s who, what he lacked in stature, made up for in the sheer volume of drink he could put away – always immaculate and never, ever out of order. Old-school gent.

  2. My faither in law, when he was skint, would ask me for £2 to go to the pub.

    “£2?” I’d ask, “that won’t go far”

    I know, he’d say, “it’s introduction money”

Drinking wine in the 70’s had to be the stomach coating destroyer Eldorado Tonic Wine 😱😵😂

Second look, I now think it is the gate that was further up , across from the big canteen, and under the SCOTTS signage, closer to Ratho Street, how bad I cant remember the name of the pub jusr round the bend.

    —-

Looks like cartsdyke yard. The pub was the para handy.

1st part of the rehab is done, thanks Aimery, we’ve put a hell of a work

It’s never easy to recover from this kind of injury, next step is getting back to 100%

    Grateful for all your messages

Can’t wait to be on the pitch again with my teammates

so did something go wrong in the recovery ?

    —————————————————————

    These are two different injuries.

The first one was his back.

The second, more serious, one was his knee injury at CP against the post v The Arabs.

He may struggle to recover from this.

  6. Hi Almore.

Still lurking but spend most of my time scrolling past the brain numbing rehash after rehash of the same shite from the same mouthpieces. Sometimes I will have a contribution to add, but by the time you log in, the topic is way back in the rear view mirror, obscured by countless, pointless, regurgitation s of the same cyclical drudgery.

But other than that, hope you’re well. I’m sure you’re chomping at the bit to get in front of a class again.

    Smiley zoom thing.

    Hail Hail.

The wonders of the internet, Eldorado Tonic Wine can still be bought even at Asda it says😱

  8. Christopher Julian may have a certain finesse, however I much prefer the no nonsense approach of a Bobo Balde type.

I vaguely remember a 4-4 game at Parkhead in 1963 – my first full season watching Celtic. Went to all home games (except old rangers) and a few local away games

  10. It really annoys me when no mark English cricketers and rugby players are handed knighthoods for “services to whatever sport you’re in”

And Beckham complaining that another undeserver Katherine Jenkins was getting some sort of gong before him. And worse, some English cricketer, whose name I can’t remember, gets a knighthood for forcing a draw in one game, ONE, against Australia.

And watching the Home Counties brigade politely applauding as each new undeserved royal award is handed out.

It really grinds my gears. Why? Because the people who do deserve such trinkets are never recognised.

So, for what it’s worth…. stand up Lou Macari….for the outstanding work you have done for the homeless and underprivileged over many, many years, and all under the radar.

Recognition by us, the working classes, means more than any of these 10 a penny knighthoods anyway.

Well done Skip tae ma Lou. You’re a bone fida hero

    Well d

  11. 4 Crowns………….yer man ordered that as well.

    I thought that was a whiskey? Naw…………..

That is the second post of yours that I have really liked today !

  13. Log,

Lenny was saying the day after the injury that he might still be fit for the Hun, game on the weekend.

Very strange medical advice. Not for the 1st time.Forrest injury the same.

  14. Lanliq was the boy for me on bus runs ,parties, etc. Mind you, it made me sick,

    Is it still available?

PS That looks like I want to be sick again !

  15. I was the original wan-can-Dan when I worked in the pub, so my staff drink would be a bottle bud * yeucchhh* or some other bottled rubbish. Me and my mate were too concerned about finishing up and headin’ down to The Boulevard ( Bouley ) in Hardgate or the more exotic Akrams in Dumbarton to chase ra burdz….

    Thems were the days.

  16. TB…………that rings a bell, i remember there was also a concoction made from the remnants of other taps which had a wine additive……..:)…………… that was v ” good value” :)))) and reserved for our most ardent clientelle……….It was a Man’s bar…………..

  17. Magwai: Very similar sentiments to yourself re the site.

Not a fan of Zoom but even lesser fan of teaching with a mask on😁

It’s funny because I don’t even recognise half the students without their mask.

Should be back in the classroom Monday week but likely to be after Easter but all students will be back. Students really need to be back in school ASAP and it’ll be good for their parents too.

  18. Hot Smoked,

Old English was our bevvy before the game.Bottle between 3 of us,and a can of Tennant’s,to wash it down. One that everyone has missed out,Barchester, came in ribbed sorta bottle. Was 10 Bob cheap then for a bottle of wine. Not so sure,it was only around 1\6d for a pint.

  19. Lucky Numbers was another weapon of choice back in the day,the label had 365 on it,with the tagline ‘ a drink for every day of the year ‘ absolute genius.

  20. BJB,

I was at the game with my Da,very young, but was that the game Alec Byrne scored a wonder goal.

  21. 365,yep,remember it well. They used to sell a wine in the Hibs in Coatbridge called,Alamo.Supposed to be a Sherry,a Barrel on the Gantry.Drank by the gallon, and known as ,A John Wayne.

  22. Reading back-
