Just. Change. Nothing.

756

Can we all just agree to change nothing?  I know it was a dead rubber and I know it’s different playing against a 10 man defence, but honestly, just, change, nothing.

We had a defender at the right side of defence, not a frustrated winger.  That subtly rebalanced the team; Kristoffer Ajer (22) was not 20 yards further upfield to connect to a Mohamed Elyounoussi pass, but he was back to provide cover and balance to the two to his left.

Christopher Jullien and Shane Duffy had their most assured game together – although Shane, you were never winning that ball, you should have shown the player down the line instead of committing to the foul.  It was a mistake that would have been sore on another day.

David Turnbull (21) got one goal, one assist and got the assist for the penalty.  That is an incredible return for a player who has been sitting in the stand or out through illness all season.

After a couple of substitute appearances in 11 months at the club, Ismaila Soro (22) made his starting debut and was even more influential than Turnbull to the flow of Celtic’s play.  The deep lying central midfield player has several jobs: protect the defence, intercept opposition moves, get the ball forward quickly and accurately.  A lot of off the ball work is also required; the best in the business are in position to stop moves before an interception is required.  Ismaila did all of this very well.

Like Soro, the lack of opportunities afforded to Patryk Klimala (22) made me think he was less effective than our other strikers have been recently.  Apparently not.  Patryk is all about movement.  He can take a ball, bring others into play and – effectively last night – win corner kicks.  At no time did he try to beat three players on his own, take note, Odsonne.

After THAT pass at Tynecastle in 2019 you may have wondered what happened to Ewan Henderson (20).  The player had a lost 18 months but, like the rest of the midfield last night, he was on his game.  He was tidy and intelligent in possession.  Use him.

The biggest compliment to the midfield and defence is that Conor Hazard (22) had little to do.  Blameless at either goal, he got a foot to a dangerous ball, handled and distributed well throughout.

I don’t know who deserved the win more, the players, the manager or you and me, no doubt someone has been busy running a poll on the subject…..  Onto Sunday!

Celtic: Fifty Flags Plus One, an anthology of how Celtic won each of their league titles, is available now.  Starting with our first title in 1893, it details how Willie Maley brought consistent glory, then the sparse successes over four decades before Jock Stein arrived in 1965 and the more contemporary wins since.

It will rekindle memories you had forgotten and give insight into how the leagues were won.

I sort if cheated when my own mum passed 2008 as a couple of months later Miss GFTB appeared … still gutted they weren’t here at the same time but every one in my family think they are one in the same … you take care and remember Celtic is just Celtic … am looking forward to McChuills im 2021

Turnbull & Soro to start ….

These two can keep your job Neil 🍀

  3. Good morning cqn from a dark and excited to see the Celts matchday in the Garngad

Surely there can be no doubt that Soro and Turnbull start. The nature of a football player is if you are playing…well pish.. you get dropped especially if you have a big enough squad.

I never agree with rotating players fir the sake if it but if they are playing poorly you need to stop the rot and replace them.

So Broonie (a fantastic servant) on the bench and for me Christie starts on the bench also. The bhoy has a lot of bluster and runs about like a chicken without a head at the moment. Drop Paddy and Moi and in come Eddie and Griff. Eddie a free role up top, Griff the out and out striker and Turnbull in the 10 role.

    Hazard

    Ajar Duffy Jullienne Laxalt

  4. DAVID66..

I got up at 4.20AM this morning, but after a Cup of Tea and a couple of Fags…I had another wee lie doon on the couch.

I usually watch Match of the Day on a Sunday morning, and I had only one eye on it this morning, especially cos of that CHUMP Ian Wright…he laughs at ANYTHING…and Ive always disliked him even when he “Played” with Celtic.

Then there is Lineker…who can NOT Speak without his hands and arms waving all over the place…he annoys me greatly.

Boris Johnson has said in the last 24 hours that ” A NO DEAL Brexit will be WONDERFUL for the UK” ………..IF that is so, WHY has he got ministers and Himself trying to GET a DEAL ” ?

CHUMP that he is…I wish some of the Euro Ministers would just ” stick the Heid Oan Him” !

    Rant over…for now..

MON The Auld Leather Belts Today !

  6. FRIESDORFER

Good afternoon from an always sunny Nonthaburi

I’ll go with your team except I’d start with Frimpong if fully fit. Henderson to come on as a substitute for at least 30 minutes. Griffith to come on for either Paddy or Eddie, which ever one is not quite making enough inroads to the Wall of Killie.

  7. In ither news…………………

Am I right in thinking that DUFC have about 9 players unavailable for the game against the huns?

I’ve just read the Shortie piece on on their game against the huns and to my eyes not a word is mentioned about this considerable hurdle that impedes DUFC’s chances and conveniently helps the sleekit Huns ( thull still git a penalty mind)…………..

The piece prefers to wax lyrical about flawles front-running Huns etc etec etc………….

    Shortie’s choice stinks.

  8. BANKIEBHOY,

I asked the question about United yesterday, and a poster informed me,that he thinks the Covid situation has cleared.Lets hope so.

  9. DAVID66,

That is the team I would like to see playing. We must get Griff and Eddy playing together again.Cup Final and the Huns coming up.Todays game not a game that will suit Paddy.11 man defence no space to run into.Cue,hat trick for Paddy.

  10. Broonie is my kind of dude.

Time has caught ye Up Scott.

    An Incredible Servant to Celtic.

Club Capitano – I salute you.

  11. Evening after an early evening dip: 18 degrees in the bay.

FREISDORFER; like that team, especially as it rests Cal Mc.

    Fingy’s crossed.

  12. However good intentioned the protest is today ,its badly timed.Thats the problem arranging things in advance.I am sure the Trust would have thought a defeat was on the cards ,Thursday. No matter what anyone says, the players will see protesters outside of the ground. All the same to them what its about. The first green shoot of recovery, and it COULD,all turn to ashes.

Suppose its down to what you think is more important.I know one thing,a lot of the foreign players will be shaking their heads in astonishment.Especially the ones that have been with us for the successes.

  13. GFTB on 12TH DECEMBER 2020 7:49 PM

“anybody else think Ajetti playing against championship defences might notch a goal or two himself….”

    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Firstly, he’d actually have to be fit enough to play 90 minutes which so far he hasn’t shown himself to be able to.

Secondly, the Championship might not be the highest standard (it’s still a couple of notches above the SPFL) but it’s fast, physical, intense and played over at least 46 matches.

From what I’ve seen so far, nothing convinces me Ajeti would tear it up in the Championship.

  14. Bankie & Turkey

I was that poster ( Deck of Cards?) and the `information` came from my United supporting mate. He thought two first team players had had to isolate but are available now but the Assistant manager was still affected by the virus .

  15. `Does the win on Thursday change anything.`

It will give some supporters hope.

It will change nothing for other supporters.

Reaction will depend on what kind of supporter you are.

  16. More banners overnight, why is there not 24 hour security there just now? Maybe the Board are happy to play the victim card….

  17. ST TAMS on 13TH DECEMBER 2020 10:30 AM

Hope, is that we what we are resigned to.

It is here, what percentage do you give on Celtic winning this league HH

  18. BADA BING

Re. Griffiths and Ajeti, disgrace that these 2 can’t get fit. I thought Ajeti looked as if he was towing a caravan when he came on Thursday.

I’d say about 10% chance of the league as it stands. Although if we had changed manager after Sparta home humiliation, that could have improved drastically

  19. HOT SMOKED on 13TH DECEMBER 2020 10:27 AM

I’m hopeful that we’ve eventually stumbled across a line-up that can reinvigorate our season.

If we revert back to Brown, Christie and McGregor in the midfield with Soro and Turnbull sitting in the stands then it changes nothing.

Not sure what kind of supporter that makes me 😀

  20. Go tell the Spartim on

    Bada

Was there not talk of a group of huns, not sure what the collective noun would be, putting up a banner overnight ? Obv with their usual police escort ensuring that the didn’t get into bother.

  21. Go tell the Spartim on

    Bada

At least they got the spelling right, for once

Liked the first reply ICF tribute act

  23. I watched The BFG yesterday for the first time.
