Juxtaposition of Keane with wannabes elsewhere

Worst Rangers [sic]team in history?
Check.

Worst Rangers [sic]chief executive in history?
Check.

Worst Rangers [sic]fans in history?
Oh, please.  They have played their part to perfection.

Worst Rangers [sic]manager in history?
Who, Ally the Great Enabler?  No way.

Charles Green would not have any authority at Ibrox if Ally McCoist didn’t act as his enabler last year.  While every Celtic fan with a keyboard was typing “Can they really be so stupid again?” Ally was cutting a deal for almost 5% of the share capital of the company [sic].  None of this would be possible without Ally.  If you see him, buy him a pie.

The juxtaposition was pointed out to me:

19 years after John Keane stepped forward with an amount of money very precious to him..

With no guarantee it would solve our problems…

Or that he would see a penny of it again (for the record, he hasn’t, and he is unlikely to)…

A very different history played out across the city.

Today’s Herald told us the group trying to overthrow the Sevco board contains Jim McColl and that, “McColl is one of Scotland’s richest people, but he won’t spend his own money”.

The world is full of rich men who will not spend their own money.  Long may they squabble over the Ibrox debris.

Our honorary chairman, John Keane, waved to the Celtic Park crowd before letting the league flag fly high, a direct consequence of putting his money where his mouth was.

Absolutely, those in control are distracting the masses by waving the left hand in their faces whilst smacking them around the back of the head with the right hand, either that or the right hand is in their pockets.

The masses have had it too good for too long and we need a realignment to put the ‘bosses’ back in charge – don’t you know.

I suspect Sally and Walter are working hand in hand with the ‘rebels’ who are trying to gain control.

Their role will be to drive down the share price.

Sally is uniquely qualified to do this, because he such an utterly hopeless manager, so he’ll stay for as he can.

    Walter resigning would help too.

    Good Morning.

I had a really enjoyable Saturday afternoon/evening at the game and beyond at the weekend.

A big hello to the many CQN’ers I met over the weekend in various places and a special thank you to John ( Malorbhoy ) whose company I enjoyed at the game. I also had the pleasure of sitting in front of El Diego Bhoy and family and sharing a few words too.

I thought we passed the ball very well on Saturday and showed what can happen when we get a wee bit of room and space to play in. Hopefully we will get far more room against Elfsborg in Sweden than we did at Celtic Park.

I made a balls of the kick of time on Saturday and was inside the stadium fully and hour ahead of kick off. This gave me the opportunity to watch the entire warm up routine of the team taking to the field and very interesting it was too.

Basically they go through a series of warm up routines with and without the ball.

Sometimes they split into defence and attack teams and at one point they play a game of “keep ball” in a small restricted area with the vests playing the non vests and all players having to constantly move and more or less play a pass immediately the ball comes to them– some of the passes are very short indeed!

The substitutes train separately from the starting 11.

Anyone who is interested in a modern approach to football training and warm up routines could do worse than go in early to a match and see this set up in practice ( TBB given your interest in the young East Kilbride footballers- you come to mind ).

Interestingly, while all this as going on Ross County were also out training on the other half of the field. Their set up and routine was entirely different, and I was able to walk up to the other side of the stadium and take in what they were doing and comparing that to the Celtic routine.

One of the things that they did do– and which Celtic didn’t— was to have a routine which ended with a number of their players approach the penalty box to receive a knocked back pass for them to run on to and hit a first time shot at goal from distance.

Of course, this is exactly how they scored– with some saying that we were a bit slow in getting out to block the shot.

I hope that Celtic have someone watch what the opposition are practising when they warm up as it gives you just a little insight into what different players might just try when the game gets under way for real — and what the team concerned have been specifically coached into doing intinctively.

Onwards to Wednesday and fingers crossed re Dirk ( who I thought looked very effective tactically ) and Sammy being available.

I watched the pre-match warm up when we played Barcelona under GS.

Both team did some stretching and sprints to start with but then there was a change.

Barcelona split into small coned off areas and did passing and moving drills that were fast and intricate.

Celtic players split into groups did a bit of shooting, pig in the middle and spent the rest of the time hitting 40 yard crossfield balls to each other.

I started paying attention from that night to the pre-match and half time routines as I couldn’t believe the difference.

I can’t believe that we had subs just hitting long balls at each other, no warm up or stretching.

Thankfully this has changed a bit but I was surprised that GS allowed this type of hald hearted warm up.

Some governments attempt to make the figure as accurate as possible, others massage it for their own political benefit.

The growth in zero hours contracts means that the current method of calculating the number of unemployed is no longer any use as a measure of how the economy is performing. That helps the present government.

Keith Jackson: Charles Green is back at Rangers, so what does Walter Smith do now?

    SNS Group

    By Keith Jackson | 5 Aug 2013 08:02

IT’S time for Walter Smith to go. To pick up his integrity and his professional reputation and put as much distance between them and Rangers as he possibly can.

He should not wait a minute longer or put himself through any more pain. There is life beyond the red brick facade of Ibrox Stadium and it’s time for Smith, a doting grandad and a knight of the realm in waiting to cut loose and enjoy it.

He has given most of the last 30 years of his life to Rangers. But now Rangers are sucking the life out of him. For his own good and for the sake of his sanity, Smith must end it all. He must walk into the Dubhai sunset into undisturbed retirement.

And he should do it today because the sooner he does, the sooner he can explain. to the supporters who to back in the battle for control. And why. They will do to a man whatever he says. If a battle CET needs sounded. Walter Smith is the man to blow that wind instrument.

The return of Charles Green to this basketcase of a club is Smith’s last straw. It is also proof that, although he sits at the top of the table as chairman, he’s been rendered almost powerless and has not an inkling to what is really happening. Although a deep thinker and philosophical man, any conversation involving finance more than give minutes long renders him with a migraine.

With an EGM on the horizon and shareholders openly revolting, Smith has become a hostage to a fortune. He is unable to exert any control over those around him to give up their investment as this omnishambles thunders on towards its messy end and so now he must leave them to it and stop asking questions we may not like the answer too.

Let’s be very clear. Smith has very little time for Green and others on that board, including financial director Brian. Stockbridge who has somehow clung to his job despite being exposed by this paper as a man of dubious conduct even though he backed them and not Chairman Murray at the last boardroom revolt a few weeks ago.

It was Smith while wearing a 1970’s replica John Greig shirt who drove Green out as chief executive in April after delivering a speech of Churchillian quality during a Saturday summit at Murray Park. A speech that reduced everyone present to tears. It was this speech that insured he became Chairman of Rangers finally

He talked about what Rangers meant to him and many thousands of others. To illustrate his point, he produced a grainy old photo of himself with his own grandad, on one of their first ever matchday visits to Ibrox.

He opened his soul on that day while pleading with the rest of the room to abide by the standards which have been handed down through the years by the club’s custodians. Standards which would automatically exclude the likes of Green, Stockbridge, Imran Ahmad and their old associate Craig Whyte. Forget EBT beneficiaries and thrifty spending from a bygone dewy eyed era. These men are not Rangers men. It has been suggested that they are in fact Celtic fans. Something the SFA should investigate immediately

And, although it seemed to some at the time as if Smith had succeeded, the truth is Green never really went away. His tears after the Churchillian speech were Green crocodile tears.

Yes, he may have used some of the millions he squeezed out of Rangers to set himself up in France beside Martin Bain on Boyne Rue but he wasn’t going to sit on those big Yorkshire hands forever. Not when there were more blue pounds to be grabbed.

It is my understanding that, last week, Smith while wearing a Gregor Stevens replica kit that he stonewall refused to sanction Green’s return to the board. But that he found himself almost entirely isolated and the only One at the table wearing football boots.

Which is why a compromise was fudged to appoint Green as a ‘consultant’. This was done against Smith’s wishes while he was under the table tying his shoe laces.

No sooner had Green returned than he was running his mouth to a newspaper, infuriating manager Ally McCoist who blamed that interview for his team’s latest humiliating cup defeat at Forfar. What an unedifying mess this club has become. Smith has too much class to stay amongst it any longer. He is not cut out for all of this Machiavellian skulduggery and devious deception, regardless of those of a green persuasion who like to insist his entire career depended upon it.

Smith is a straight shooter who prides himself on his own honesty and his love for his football club. But, by staying, he now endangers his legacy at Ibrox.

His efforts have been valiant and selfless. He had no wish to get involved and only squared it with himself on the basis that it would be better to be on the inside as a potential whistle blower.

But somehow it overwhelmed him, when he found out that they were laughing at his speeches and presentations behind his back.

From not wishing to be on the board at all, Smith found himself as its chairman, replacing the bloodied Malcolm Murray on May 30.

Now, two months on, there is nothing more he can give. There is no way for him to bring this broken board back together. He is presiding over a chaos which cannot be fixed but which needs to be demolished and started again.

Smith should not hang around for such an inglorious ending. Rather, he should help to accelerate it by unburdening himself and telling a bewildered support exactly what has been going on behind the scenes.

He should confess to allowing his name and his reputation to be hijacked by others who have no interest in doing what is best for Rangers. Only for themselves.

Smith could also take time to explain what really is going on with chief executive Craig Mather, who was shoehorned into Green’s old job on an enormously lucrative contract despite having no obvious qualifications.

What is the deal with this guy who, to all intents and purposes, appears to have bought himself a job when he became one of Green’s investors?

Do Smith and McCoist really believe in Mather? Like they said last week. Or have they been encouraged to endorse this man by the club’s internal Politburo or even worse, have they been drugged ?

Mather embarrassed himself on Saturday with a statement that called for all involved at the club to get back to focussing on football – but which, conflictingly, was released half an hour before kick-off in Forfar.

Without being bold enough to name names, he also launched a malevolent attack on Paul Murray and Jim McColl, who have united along with a hefty percentage of the institutional investors to take on the board.

McColl and Murray have been given a mandate by the big hitters in London to sweep aside Mather, Stockbridge and non-executive director Bryan Smart. In other words, to clean up the mess around Smith.

Both are wealthy men. McColl topped Scotland’s rich list just a couple of years ago and, although there is something jarring about using this word to describe anyone around the post-Whyte Rangers, is a confirmed ‘billionaire’.

So they are not in it to make money or for ‘self gain’ as Mather claims. Also both Murray and McColl did more than anyone else to try to save Rangers from the clutches of Whyte and then Green. But they were denied that chance because of the closeness of the relationship that bound Whyte, Green and administrators Duff and Phelps together.

The sale of Rangers was conducted in a closed shop and maybe if Mather knew anything about the depths that were stooped he wouldn’t chose to come across all high and mighty now.

Mather was attempting to rewrite history. with his words (they were HIS words. right?) whilst making himself out as the one man fans could trust.

A Johnny-come-lately associate of Green versus McColl, Murray and Frank Blin, three lifelong Rangers fans with impeccable business backgrounds. Good luck with that.

But again, it is essential that Smith’s views in all of this are aired in public.

Sitting in silence and despair is no longer an option for the man who may in time be regarded as the greatest contributor of all to this club’s history.

Smith may have thought, in order to protect that legacy, he had to stay and fight the good fight on the inside.

But the longer he stays gagged and bound by stock exchange regulations, the more damage will be done around him. For Rangers’ sake and for his own, Smith must go. And he must go with, excuse the language, one almighty gang bang in Dubhai
