Keane wanted/unwanted

759

Roy Keane’s “Celtic wanted me but they weren’t showing how much they wanted me” comment in his second autobiography about being courted to replace Neil Lennon as our manager in the summer is no doubt accurate on one level, but inaccurate on another.  Some within Celtic certainly wanted him, but I’m sure the reticence he picked up (and was shared by many of us on the blog at the time) was also very real.  Celtic wanted him, but their approach showed him how unconvinced they were.

Keane’s managerial CV is at best considered patchy and his reputation has sold more autobiographies of former team-mates and managers than the two volumes he has now published.  Few were convinced he was the right manager for the job, although I’ve no doubt Keane’s claim that Dermot Desmond wanted him, and told him “The job is yours” is accurate, whether anyone else at Celtic was in on the plan or not.

Many thanks to everyone who sponsored me for Sunday’s Great Scottish Run 10k in aid of Celtic Foundation.  So far, £677 has been raised to help OUR foundation’s work with poverty, education, learning and equality.  The help and messages of support kept the legs moving.

    NegAnon2 2136:-

I had hoped that the Huns would have complained to the SPFL and thus force the SPFL to investigate and (no doubt reluctantly) nail the same club myth.

But the Huns were too cute to do that, as they knew that would only open a can of worms for them. Instead they reverted to type, low level intimidation and veiled threats to force Livingston to take the easy way out for a quieter life.

Now the poor guy who wrote the article which spoke only to truth has been identified in the Evening Times. The Huns will now be gearing up to smash his windows, vandalise his car and get him the sack from his job. Its what they do. Meantime McCoist and the SFA and the SPFL look the other way.

I posted on here on Saturday night that I am scunnered with the shameless way in which the Huns keep trying to bully the rest of Scottish football into accepting the same club fable. Coercion, rage, threats are all thrown about with impunity.

They were insolvent. They died. Companies House knows it. The Huns know it and the SFA know it but neither of them will admit it. Not when there is blood to be up to your knees in, and not when there is money to be made.

    Scumbags the lot of them.

TGBS-I wonder what will happen with corners from the left if Stokes is dropped at Dingwall?’

    They will improve 100%.HH

That’s the thing that troubles me most just now – we have not hit a decent corner or free kick over the past few games, yet Ronny persists with allowing Stokes and Commons to take them. It looks like they don’t practice. And another thing that bugs me – why is everyone pulled back at corners – that’s where Ronny loses me.

  3. Ronny made 11 changes away to Inverness. An entire team, probably with a mind to Maribor at home the following midweek.

    Which we lost 1-0.

I’m not saying sack him but the head in the stand stuff from some Celtic supporters is verging on ridiculous.

Forget about all the nonsense about wanting instant gratification and glory hunters etc

The vast majority on here dont fall into either category and arent influenced by media agendas.

They are influenced by what they see and hear from Ronny and its very disturbing

We may not win the league this year if it continues,

    People have legitimate concerns,

    Nothing hunnish about it

I agree , we wouldn’t have needed to speak to RD if Lenny had been backed.

I don’t know of anyone who was dissatisfied with Lenny.

My God things are that bad in Paradise Lenny felt he had to leave with no job lined up.

Such is our downward spiral , perpetrated on us by a balance sheet obsessed board.

Ironically their love of money will end up costing our club a fortune in lost CL receipts and lost season tickets.

RD is approaching the task in the right manner , given little backing and trying to change our style.

Some have given up after 3 months of his reign.

RD will win the treble despite the suits.

What will the RD detractors say then?

  6. What is the stars – I have no doubt whatsoever that we will win the league.

Ok, how long do I think it will take to see real progress?

The biggest problem we have is lack of training opportunities. This is due to the amount of games RD is having to play.

How do you train players to play a new style when you have a game on the Sunday, rest day Monday, train Tuesday, fly out Wednesday then play Thursday, rest Friday, train Saturday…..

    Then international breaks.

    Very hard.

I think that is why we saw some evidence of the pressing 4231 style in earlier games but that now seems to be taking a bit of a back seat.

I’d expect more evidence of a change of style once the Europa league group stage is done.

Till them I think RD is just trying to go game to game.

  7. DEILA IS NOT GONNA BE SACKED…..say what you will…James Forrest onfieldsofgreen said a great thing….paraphrase….if Deila is sacked after 12 months…shame on Him….if he is sacked after 4 months …shame on PL…..and PL aint gonna let that happen….so buckle in for a bumpy ride…..Ronny aint going nowhere……live with it….i dont like it.. But im in …..

Van gaal has a track record turkeybhoy. Ronny doesn’t

I really wanted him to succeed and was on his side even after ICT thinking he will learn. He hasn’t and there is no light at the end of the tunnel

No point in delaying the inevitable

His “Track record”aint doing him any good at the moment. He is vying with teams who can match him.As I said earlier.RDs feat at his last club was miraculous. He needs time, and a full squad. He also needs time to find out who he can trust. Not the GFITW obviously.

None of you are prepared for the pain of change, badly needed change, the players are not good enough, JP and Pedro has seen to that.

Change takes time, and time is what you and the rest are not prepared to give the new man.

They should be outside with the pitchforks calling for the head of the decision makers, they are the cause of the probs.

    Thanks for the reply

I dont think we will win anything this year,

So these training routines/playing systems are so new and revolutionary that it can take months for experienced professionals to learn them

    Seems extraordinary to me

Football is essentially a simple game and whether we like it or not its all about winning

Celtic are currently 6th in one of the weakest leagues in Europe

You are obviously buying into Ronny big time

    again fair enough

Results/performance however is what its all about and so far the results/performances have been woeful

How long do you think it will take for Ronnys revolution to start showing some positive results

Do you think it would be acceptable to not win the league

I dont think anyone is buying into Ronnie big time. Most supporting him thinks he deserves a chance. Is that so hard.If we are sitting clear at the top of the league and into the EL knockout at Xmas, will you still be on his case.Maybe we wont, but its a lot more likely than your doomsday scenario, that we wont win the league.

The line that you are pursuing. That its all too hard. Is a losers charter. A ready made excuse for failure.

That celtci as a club are now peddling this line is beyond belief.

Their lack of ambition is astonishing.

It’s a bit of a shame you insult me with the MSM stuff. I haven’t bought a paper etc for years. But it suits you to dehumanise me in this manner. Makes denial easier.

    Is this our vision?

Much rather have that than yours.Have you ever said anything positive?.

  16. Glorious balance sheet. I wholehearted agree. We are letting the politically convenient view win. Why? Cow scottish society is sectarians to its very core.

  17. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Hankray, with some of our support not happy with left footed players on the right and vice versa,Adam’s best match for us was when he played left back in our victory v Barca. Our system that night helped.

He’s never been the same since the shoulder injury against the Mothers last season. What was not pointed out by the media was the push on him by Hammell put him off balance, a definite penalty, just before Lasley tackled like Lasley.

Both Adam & Mikael have been unlucky with injuries but we need Mikael back sooner rather than later and hopefully Efe gets the rest he needs as he is becoming the new scapegoat, unfairly in my opinion.

  18. the glorious balance sheet on

Healthy respectful debate is good, but its clear from reading a lot of the posts on here that we`re very much a divided support at the moment. How do we fix that? I don

  19. Turkey Bhoy yes I have. Hav myou read my last to articles in the cqn magazine?

It’s too easy to say there isn’t an alternative.

    But there is.

I may be called neganon but I can find a more positive outlook for celtic than clinging onto sectarianism.

I could do a better job than PL. Many could.

If RD wants his players to stop eating junk food he must first

You are wrong, people arent demanding instant success but they are asking that the people in charge of the club make a modicum of investment in the playing and management staff

    That hasnt been happening

Yes Ronny is the symptom, the cheap option foisted upon us by Lawwell and introduced as a revolutionary football guru who will do great things, you just have to be patient to see the results.

By asking for Ronny to be sacked we are not “being hunnish” or demanding instant success we are simply saying to Lawwell that this is a “a bridge too far” we have had enough of your downsizing, now please treat us with the respect we deserve and employ some proper footballers and a proper manager

  24. Glorious balance sheet. Those who run the club divided us. Those who can unite us need to reject those who run the club.

    We need regime change.

  25. Neganon2

    Surely we are in agreement.

The suits are to blame for our shameful capitulation to the balance sheet.

But surely u cannot advocate sacking a man 3 months into the job?

RD needs the backing of the support not this continual assault on his abilities.

He ain’t even had a full squad to pick from.

    RD will deliver the treble.

    Why?

  27. Burghbhoy. No he won’t.,he is never a celtic manager. Simply a shambles waiting to happen. But you are right in one respect. The celtic board willer sits. Because if they don’t they are in the firing line.
