Keane wanted/unwanted

759

Roy Keane’s “Celtic wanted me but they weren’t showing how much they wanted me” comment in his second autobiography about being courted to replace Neil Lennon as our manager in the summer is no doubt accurate on one level, but inaccurate on another.  Some within Celtic certainly wanted him, but I’m sure the reticence he picked up (and was shared by many of us on the blog at the time) was also very real.  Celtic wanted him, but their approach showed him how unconvinced they were.

Keane’s managerial CV is at best considered patchy and his reputation has sold more autobiographies of former team-mates and managers than the two volumes he has now published.  Few were convinced he was the right manager for the job, although I’ve no doubt Keane’s claim that Dermot Desmond wanted him, and told him “The job is yours” is accurate, whether anyone else at Celtic was in on the plan or not.

Many thanks to everyone who sponsored me for Sunday’s Great Scottish Run 10k in aid of Celtic Foundation.  So far, £677 has been raised to help OUR foundation’s work with poverty, education, learning and equality.  The help and messages of support kept the legs moving.

    Moon Watchers

Tonight’s moon is being called a blood moon and there’s a lunar eclipse to happen.

Unfortunately, it’ll be at about half past eleven tomorrow morning so a good place to view it will be the far western states of USA.

Yes, Patrick Moore was one of the great Moon-Howlers and is sadly missed.

croppybhoy. Just where does Roy Keane have a successful management career come from the guy is a managerial failure. He also is not a leader of men he prefers to bully and sulk his way through life just my opinion of course. H.H.

    *****Last Man Standing 2*****

Now it’s time for vengeance, time to do better than last! Last Man Standing 2 begins this weekend and will be based this week on the International games on Sat and Sun only.

If you did not take part last time then why not join us. It’s dead easy. All you do is simply select a winning team each weekend until you are the last (wo)man standing. Can’t be any simpler than that, I hear you say :-)

But watch out as each week, the leagues you are allowed to choose from may change.

In each last man standing comp, you can only pick a team once.

    Rule change for LMS2

If nobody wins, i.e. there is no last man standing with a successful selection at the end, and everybody else has been knocked out, the prizepot will automatically roll over into

    LMS3.

The cost to enter is still £10 and again we will have 50% payout to the winner, with the balance going to Help Shay along the way.

If you want to take part simply respond to cqnpredictor@gmail.com

70 entrants last time. Would love to beat this!

  5. Would Roy Keane have won at Dundee? Have a look at the squad available that day.

What about ICT? Would Roy have instinctively known that our fringe players, mostly internationals, were incapable?

Would Roy have stopped Broonie getting injured?

Maybe he would have scored Stokesy chance at the weekend?

I even read someone last night saying Ronny should walk if we don’t be Astra comfortably home and away. The poster said Astra were being jumped by everyone else.

DZ beat them 5-1. DZ had 5 shots on target I believe. They likely had more against us.

    RBS beat Astra 2-1.

In the minds of some on here tho we should cuff them no bother.

Some on here make Gordon Dalziel sound well informed

    Midfield four?

Kayal plays like he’d be the guy in the pub who was always in the toilet when things kicked off but who’d be prominent when things were calmer and the danger gone.

Bitton seems to be neither a ball winner nor a great passer.

Commons is a ball pincher, not ball winner and get’s a nose bleed if he comes too deep.

Brown is a jack of all trades in our midfield – tackles, passes, scores but he has those “please send me off ” rushes of blood that you can barely forgive in a rookie.

From the choice we have my choice is Johansen, Brown, McGregor and Henderson.

    Just an opinion CSC

  7. My take on the Roy Keane saga….PL loves RD…he wants him for the obvious reason (he’s cheap done well at a small club with little resources..perfect)…but the great DD wants bums on seats so he goes to RK..offers him the job…but…RK says…emmm let me think about it…the great DD takes the huff…tells PL..tell him the wages ..take it or leave it…so ..RK does as many people do when giving such a choice…he leaves it…..simples…..but PL…aw he is so happy….and that is where we are…

  8. If there is any comfort to be gained at all…. It is that, thus far Celtic have only made a cheap mistake….. Appointing Keane would have been an expensive mistake.

Either way, Delia is still a mistake. The sooner the club act, the sooner the mistake can be rectified !

  9. RD is on his way to having a more successful first season than NL. Without the benefit off having been part of the set up beforehand.

Completely agree with the article. The reaction to some results as we set out to achieve fundamental change is ridiculous

    Celtic 0-1Saint Johnstone

    Rangers 4-2 Celtic

    Ross Co 1-1 Celtic

    Celtic 2-2 Hibs .

    Celtic 0-2 Kilmarnock .

    Celtic 1-1 Saint Johnstone

    Saint Johnstone 1-1 Celtic

    Ross Co 3-2 Celtic

Lennon’s team after Euro games in his 1st 2 full seasons, and that was after he had 5 months working with the team in the 2nd half of the Mowbray season. Hysterical overreaction yet again from some, who’s only solution to trying to change and improve is to vent, rage and stamp their feet.

I suspect many of the loudest voices criticising have never achieved anything personally, and have no clue what is involved in transitioning . Try checking the dictionary definition of supporter. What it doesn’t say is the role of a supporter is to undermine and destabilise. As usual these hyper criticial “experts” won’t come on and admit they got it wrong when things get better. Their contribution is destructive and damaging. If you can’t support the club at least don’t damage it

  11. Big Hello to Gearoid1998,Weefraethetim,Leftclicktic,The lovely Dena29,Eddiefromkirkmichael, Ritchie,Paddybhoy1888, kikinthenakas, 67Heaven, it was the highlight of the day

  12. Roy Keane is the latest on a conveyer belt of ‘chums’ that DD has offered his ‘toy’ Celtic Fc to play with.

    DD has to be removed.

This’ll be achieved if the fans grow a pair in time for SB-renewal day.

Tell the ‘leaders’ DD / PL / the ‘bored’ / and all the rest of the faceless feckers who run ‘your’ club on, ‘your’ behalf that – ‘you’ll’ be putting no more of ‘your’ money on the table for the hierarchy to mis-manage on ‘your’ behalf.

But, the huns will be back next season and, we’ll be a shambles as all of the loan players will probably be for the off and we’ll be scrambling about looking for players to go into the 1st team on the ast day of the transfer-window. And, who knows what shape we’ll be in if(I worry dearly about this) CG gets injured?

Anyway, Fergus said that when he left the fans would own ‘their’ club? Still waiting Fergus….

Don’t bame DD / PL / the ‘bored’ or anybody else if Celtic gies ye the gip – blame yerself!

You pay these basturts – your to blame.

    The dying rebel, bye.

  13. Can one of the folk proclaiming RD as a definite mistake, rather than a new manager who has made some mistakes please describe his faults in a bit more detail?

To me, Legia apart, which was in pre season effectively, any dropped points or defeats can be rationally explained.

They could also happen to any manager operating at our level.

  14. Keane is quite a nice bloke. He is a patron of Dogs for the Blind in Cork, my nephew works there as a dog trainer and every time Keane is back in the City he goes out to meet the lads & lassies who train the dogs. In the early days when the word was out that Keane was calling, the big wigs organised a big reception, the whos who of local society were invited, Keano arrived, snubbed the snobs and brought all the young workers down to the pub where he stayed chatting and bought the drinks for a few hours. The big wigs know better now, so they don’t try to muscle in, and Roy is happy chatting to the workers & playing around with the dogs.

  15. Bankiebhoy – well said!

I’ve yet to hear a logical, coherent, well thought out argument for getting rid of Ronny.

  16. What the keane revelations mean is it is indeed PL who is pulling the strings at Celtic park

He has to go and take his useless scout park with him ( 2 signings in 20 making the 1st team is a Sackable offence )

Celtic are PL personal pension now

Get him out now before we end up with 10,000 at games

Good afternoon CQN from Grenada (Caribbean), Winning Captains is this a first post from here ? Have had to await my ipad cooling down

I’ve discovered a new Paradise out here :-) Sandals La Source, stunning.

Since you ask I had a wee look for you. There’s been 204 people reading CQN in Mexico, 1 in Honduras, 2 in Panama (probably Craigy Whyte and his sidekick), 2 in Dominican Republic, 31 in Bahamas, 1 in Puerto Rico and none in Cuba – Neganon2 has probably scared them all away. Couldn’t locate you but you’re probably included in the Bahamas CSC…

  18. Why do you want logical, coherent debate, when results, performances, and players body language say everything you need to know ??
