Roy Keane’s “Celtic wanted me but they weren’t showing how much they wanted me” comment in his second autobiography about being courted to replace Neil Lennon as our manager in the summer is no doubt accurate on one level, but inaccurate on another. Some within Celtic certainly wanted him, but I’m sure the reticence he picked up (and was shared by many of us on the blog at the time) was also very real. Celtic wanted him, but their approach showed him how unconvinced they were.
Keane’s managerial CV is at best considered patchy and his reputation has sold more autobiographies of former team-mates and managers than the two volumes he has now published. Few were convinced he was the right manager for the job, although I’ve no doubt Keane’s claim that Dermot Desmond wanted him, and told him “The job is yours” is accurate, whether anyone else at Celtic was in on the plan or not.

Stars – I’m off now but last thing I would say is that I think RD is trying to change from a winning team in the SPL to a team that is capable of winning and playing positive football in Europe.
We drew and then beat 2 teams in the last month in Europe who to my mind were better than us. I’d like us to get to the stage where we can play these teams, or an Ajax or Basle and take them on at football.
Under Neil we looked to frustrate teams in Europe and dig out results.
I’d like us to do more than that.

Lets not forget that although we`re in a hole now, we will come out of it but when we do we have CL qualifiers in 9 months to think about and playing guys who won`t be here then to the exclusion of the decent young players we have doesn’t help the CL preparations.

I was not criticizing Lenny in that post.Simply pointing out to the hysterical cries of “Woeful results”that every manager has them.Lenny had them with a settled team he knew well.RD is trying to find out which players he can trust.Some moans earlier about KC nd AS terrible set piece efforts.Good god,these are our two main set piece specialists.When they fail to deliver what they are capable of,it seems its RDs fault.KC can be great one day,woeful the next,RDs fault.It will take him time.Too many not prepared to give him it.
He might eventually fail.No one can see ahead,but he deserves more than 8 league games before the screaming Divas call for his head.
Well all you 58 and above…times are differant….i dont care about the hun anymore..he is (or should be ) in the past (where he loves to reside RIP)…i care about the future(YES voter romantic i know)…and i have never known anything like this.This season is a crossroads for us…if Deila gets it right(i will be amazed)….great …if he dont…..

I was one of those moaning about set pieces! When the same player repeatedly messes up the set pieces, the manager should change it. That’s an easy intervention for any manager at any level of football to make. No manager should stand by passively while the same player makes the same mistakes.
To be clear, I`m not calling for Ronny`s head. That would only be papering over the cracks at Celtic. The real problems lie further up the chain, player recruitment, club strategy etc are a complete joke and tie the manager`s hands behind his back.

While I’m only 36, I would say sectarianism is probably worse just now than in the past 20 years. It was difficult in the 90’s when they were winning, triumphalism at its best. Then Advocaat arrived and with a team of mostly foreigners it seemed to dwindle, although their board done their best with the Orange away top. Things seemed to be getting better on the sectarian front until they brought back the myth. Under him the triumphalism started again and he bought proper Scottish Huns to the club once more. Then liquidation so they are now playing victim and everything else is just bigotry against them.

If we can look on the positives, there is still a mighty long way to go in the Championship, win the game in hand we’re only three points off the top, still in the cups and top of our group in the Europa Lge. The guys have to start putting the ball in the net.

You are correct in that Lenny made plenty of mistakes and that was because he was far too inexperienced when he was given the job
However he had at least had the experience of playing for a big club and playing in a professional league set up in England – Ronnie has none of that
With the best will in the world his experience is very limited
We can only judge on what we see and so far he has gotten more wrong than right!
Until the players are fit enough to play his desired system it is stupidity to play it
Good managers take what they have and devise a system to get the best out of their players
If Ronnie persists in breaking this principle he is either stupid or arrogant -neither is acceptable
We lost to Hamilton at CP for the first time since 1938!

But we are sixth in a very poor league, but don’t worry once the players stop eating chips everything will be fine. Yes we will win the league ‘so fecking what’ without any other club being able to compete with our financial muscle that should be a given. I want to see the club going forward not stagnate or slide towards mediocrity which sadly is the case at present. league performances erratic, bizzare team selections, bizzare positional decisions, bizarre substitutions. European games we are being over run and so far have been very lucky in the EL. That isn’t SMSM b/s that is what I and many other Celts can see on the pitch. RD is in over his head, we know it , allegedly the players know it and PL knows.
Sad fact is the real trumpets are those who still believe the emperor is fully clothed when all evidence points to the fact he is bollock naked. I have no animosity towards RD I just don’t think is up to the task of managing Celtic FC, In fact i doubt if he is capable of managing Partick Thistle. I have seen many average Celtic teams over the years but I struggle to recall one as tactically inept or as unmotivated as the team under Ronnies charge.

I’m going to be honest, almost everyone that I talk football with goes to the home games at least, there’s very few who don’t attend at all.
Not one is convinced by Ronny. That’s not to say he should be sacked, we’re just making an assessment of what we’re seeing with our own eyes so far.
There’s little evidence so far to convince us that he’ll turn things around.
Let’s hope we’re wrong.

O`Connell at centre half generally looked ok in the games against Inverness and Dundee. He always tries to play football, although with Denayer and van Dijk we`re well served in that position right now. But come next season when van Dijk is sold and Denayer returns to Man City…..
I`d play McGregor on the right, and give Wakaso a run on the left. If Wakaso doesn`t deliver then I`d switch McGregor to the left once Forrest is fit again.
