What a lot of nonsense we’re been through since last week. My information was that we were interested in Roy Keane but no deal had been concluded. Martin O’Neill helpfully (cough) poured fuel on the fire by confirming he gave Roy permission to speak to Celtic, but despite several newspapers running the story that he was set to be appointed no later than today, the deal was never as close as reported.
Roy’s position on the short list was made time-critical by the fact that he was due to leave on tour with Ireland tomorrow, but talks continued in parallel with other targets.
The overwhelming reaction to yesterday’s news among the Celtic support was that we had a lucky escape. There was a Rangers fan who used to come onto the CQN comments section after Neil Lennon’s first season in charge and taunt us that Dermott Desmond was going to sack Neil and appoint Roy Keane. We didn’t take him seriously………
I’ve never been in the business of rubbishing Celtic players or managers before they arrive (although I’ve never backed a managerial appointment since starting CQN) but Keane represented a huge and unacceptable risk to Celtic. We have an excellent football infrastructure and development strategy, with good coaches at all levels. We need a technically gifted tactician, capable of dovetailing with this strategy. Whatever Keane is, there is little evidence that he is a tactical genius, or that he’s likely to dovetail with anyone else’s strategy. The potential disruption his unique brand of focus would bring could be considerable.
Although you can expect a daily drip of ‘news’, I don’t expect any actual news in the short-term.
Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.
Shout out to Frank O’Hagan, who supported the CQN Charity Golf Day with his music three years ago. He’s playing Glasgow Uni Union on Friday night, get along if you can.

She is a huge Hibs fan. I told her she had to be there. She then forced me to take her. It was awful. Hibernian by far are the worst side I have seen in a long time watching Scottish top flight football. They deserved to go down.

Is this just a guess or do they know something?
Big thanks to Glasgowghirl for getting my birthday off tp a flyer today with the Seville book especially! My wee tale is tucked in there just after DBBIA. The authors sensibly broke up my ramble with some pictures to alleviate the boredom!

Knowing out limitations on salary, who do you believe fits your bill “we need a fairly good manager to negociate the Euroqualies”
What European experience and success as managers do the Moyes / McKay’s & Clarkes have again? and, more importantly, at what salary?
Cut cloth to fit…..the Celtic mandate.

I hear it will definitely not be today from what I hear.

Hail Hail!
I do hope there is an announcement today but maybe bet365 are taking their info from MON who said he thought it would be sorted by Wednesday.
We may not need Moyes, McKay or Clarke to win in Scotland but our gaol for this year is to qualify for the Group Stages of the CL. Need a manager/first team coach in place to decide whom if any we ned to recruit and get preparation underway for qualifiers (that is the manager/first team coach needs to get his planning done now).
World Cup is not that important to us…we are trying to find players before they come to international attention.
It is important to get it right but it is also important to do it as quickly as possible we do have a bit of a timeline is relation to the qualifiers.
JJ
When Rangers did their 9, we were no better than Aberdeen, Dundee Utd, Motherwell, Hearts, Hibs, etc. and only finished 2nd in twice and that was in the last 2 seasons before we stopped them(GIRUYs)
4rth in 93-94 and 5th in 89-90.
In that 93-94 season they actually only won 22 of their 44 games but still won it…..imagine if we did that next year?
We were no more a credible challenge then, than all those teams are to us now but OUR titles are dismissed.
Maybe I missed something and there’s were too?
Nah something tells me they were not.
We were excellent in the league last season and there are only a few seasons that ANY team has managed to have such a good campaign.
Of all the candidates only Moyes has Euro experience as manager although Clarke has as an assistant and plenty of it.
Happy Birthday glasgowbhoy.
Have a great day :)
Paddy T- I would have any one of Clarke, Mackay or Moyes.
I think they all have shown sufficient nous to get us through the qualifiers.
And after that, who knows..
I would not want O.C and I am glad Roy Keane excluded himself.

To save me searching back, are you able to re-post the Dalmarnock that Kit put up earlier … ?

Just passing through to say…..

Gie big McGhee the job & stop efffin aboot Sellic!!! – Bye.
That 89-90 season……geezo.
IF the format was as it is now with 3 points for a win…..we would have finished 2nd bottom.
Yet we have no challenge today?
Macjay I have Optus Internet but foxtel tv. didn’t think you could get iq unless you have 2nd cable run
Let me know ;)$
Sorry….cannae count!

I am always disappointed when CQN posters feel the need to tell us that Celtic will win the League easily .
We won it easily last year but I still enjoyed the football we played. Of course the competition is not so intense without the old Rangers but jumping on the MSSM bandwagon`s attempt to discourage Celtic supporters from attending is not very clever.
JJ
To me that just about sums it up in here, the negativity on the club because other teams cheated and they are where they are is not the fault of CFC, far from in, I suppose it suits others agendas who are just constant moaners and could never be pleased no matter what, or the influx of Huns in here……Huns if your lurking GIRUYs.
Good morning CQN
Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Lennybhoy
Happy Anniversary
A big happy birthday to Glasgowbhoy

“Paddy T- I would have any one of Clarke, Mackay or Moyes.”
PL would ask that they include there pay-off monies as part of the deal to ensure that they are not breaking the salary cap for a Celtic manager.
Euro experience;
Clarke……as an assistant…..not involved in any tactics that I’m aware of.
McKay…..Not that I’m aware of…..can you confirm
Moyes……Not very encouraging with Everton
If it’s Euro experience, why not a Eurpean manager!!!
Paddy T
Hi guys slightly off topic but I have been away for a spell, how’s the plans for the CQN 10 in a row golf day going and who’s the speaker? Would love to get along for it, superb days cheers HH

Just seen your shameless request for birthday wishes.
I’ve booked Chaopraya for later by the way. Enjoy reading the Seville book whilst waiting for me to finish work!
HH & HB!
Just of French Street, Pentland Place. The area referred to in the programme was known as bridgeton, including Main st.
paddy T- I would like the Board to fill the post with the best man available;; I don’t think M O’Neill had much European experience when he came.
Clearly what we might have to do is take a bit of a gamble- we will either get a manager with a reputation to make, or with a reputation to rebuild.
Mrs LennyBhoy, medal is in the post.
Well done, you must be a patient woman:-)
Congratulations to you both.
Love is in the ole air…..

Thanks for the reply.
I completely agree with your idea that everyone on CQN, regardless of opinion, should be afforded the opportunity to ask questions of Celtic.
However, so should every other Celtic supporter and under the current model the Forum Meetings aren’t doing that.
JP explained the criteria he used for selecting those to be invited and I understand the logic and reasons behind it. But he admitted himself that it wasn’t entirely inclusive.
The significant factor for me is that there are a number of supporters who aren’t happy with the manner in which Celtic are dealing with some things. They feel that they should have the opportunity to express their frustration, offer their opinions and ask their questions directly to Celtic.
They see personal invitations being handed out to a select few and their frustration grows.
That needs to be addressed in my opinion if dialogue is going to be meaningful.
===========================
” However, so should every other Celtic supporter and under the current model the Forum Meetings aren’t doing that”
I take the view that the imperfect letter you write and send is better than the perfect one that never gets written. The perfect one is giving every supporter the means to attend a forum but that is unrealistic and even if it were possible not every supporter would use it. Its the perfect unwritten letter that is never sent, so we have to look at the next best thing.
Were there any issues that got a different answer depending on which forum it was raised on or were many of the issues much the same across the support but voiced differently?
Is giving folk time to respond a bad thing? Time to establish the facts and give a reasoned answer that either leads to action or agreement not to act or agreement to disagree and might in some cases reduce frustration that arises from not understanding the other person’s position because of information they hold that the other does not?
Perhaps the answer is already there and that is to treat the Open Forum in the same way CQN posters get an opportunity to voice their concerns and have the points made at the Open Forum fed into the Supporters Forum?
Given that the CSA and CST were at The Supporters Forum then they can add to the debate on the evening. Individual sat the Open Forum can be asked if they mind any of the official groups at the Open Forum acting on their behalf when the issues are dealt with at the Supporters Forum. That way the emotional pulse as well as the rational pulse can be better established and channelled into action.
Such an approach of dovetailing the two would address the frustration element and allow the wider support base to have a say. That will never be the whole support but that is the perfect letter that is never sent that leads to miscommunication.
Perhaps the CST Resolution on giving the support a voice has a better chance of success if it suggests building on what is there? Just a thought.
