Keane would have been unacceptable risk to Celtic

What a lot of nonsense we’re been through since last week.  My information was that we were interested in Roy Keane but no deal had been concluded.  Martin O’Neill helpfully (cough) poured fuel on the fire by confirming he gave Roy permission to speak to Celtic, but despite several newspapers running the story that he was set to be appointed no later than today, the deal was never as close as reported.

Roy’s position on the short list was made time-critical by the fact that he was due to leave on tour with Ireland tomorrow, but talks continued in parallel with other targets.

The overwhelming reaction to yesterday’s news among the Celtic support was that we had a lucky escape.  There was a Rangers fan who used to come onto the CQN comments section after Neil Lennon’s first season in charge and taunt us that Dermott Desmond was going to sack Neil and appoint Roy Keane.  We didn’t take him seriously………

I’ve never been in the business of rubbishing Celtic players or managers before they arrive (although I’ve never backed a managerial appointment since starting CQN) but Keane represented a huge and unacceptable risk to Celtic.  We have an excellent football infrastructure and development strategy, with good coaches at all levels.  We need a technically gifted tactician, capable of dovetailing with this strategy.  Whatever Keane is, there is little evidence that he is a tactical genius, or that he’s likely to dovetail with anyone else’s strategy. The potential disruption his unique brand of focus would bring could be considerable.

Although you can expect a daily drip of ‘news’, I don’t expect any actual news in the short-term.

    I was able to watch the first episode that ended with the Jaconelli’s being evicted but I couldn’t open the other two through my BBC iplayer due to being in Oz, or Kit’s link.

    Just for the record, and to make it clear to everyone that had the misfortune of reading or reading back last night, I have never met the bould bahoy, I believe he has posted under another moniker and going back about a year or so ago, I offered to meet him, as his line of work crosses over with mine, this never happened, nothing sinister, it just didn’t happen because we couldn’t facilitate it, holidays etc.

     

    I don’t know if it will happen in the future, but just to re-iterate I have never met the person mentioned and therefor never said the things or made the comments that were attributed to me.

    I’m glad I came on the blog, I saw all the congrats shown to you, at first I thought you had actually got one of your forecasts re new manager correct, but no, it was a more important congrats,Your wife and yourself celebrating your 25th year together,your wife surely deserves a medal for putting up with you for so long, anyway enjoy your celebrations and heres hoping for another 25 years of loving together.

    Can’t help thinking that the publicity around Clarke is purely media driven, in the knowledge that he is not The Man, building up to another ” snub” headline.

    The Celtic SLO was saying on twitter that season ticket sales are going better than anticipated – we’ve sold more than at this time last year.

    Well, someone in here said in his estimation so far CFC have sold 20,000 ST, and at the start of the season they will have sold 30,000 , now I don’t agree with his estimation, but he is entitled to his opinion.

    I did suspect that. The TO office themselves have probably blocked out seats being aware of which sections are popular for relocations.

     

     

    To me it at least indicates that sales aren’t dropping.

    Billybhoy i went to school with a bhoy called Milton Bell who stayed in pentland place, the school was Pirn Street, and i knew the Faulds family not all of them were bad people. like the rest of us there were a couple of bad apples,oh how i miss dalmarnock at times, stay in livingston now ,its ok a good few tims live there .
