Kilmarnock 2-2 Celtic

335

You know what happens when you fail to defend properly, so watching Celtic be punished for Izzie failing to stop a cross, Efe allowing a man to cut in front of him, and Izzie getting into a mess, allowing his man to get behind him and run into the box, will not be a surprise. Defend like that and you don’t deserve any more from the game.

There was a vastly more interesting aspect on display.

Commons invention for Griffiths’ 2nd minute goal was a treat, four minutes later Commons shot forced MacDonald into a save. Then on 8 minutes Rogic forced a save and 60 seconds later Griffiths shot from distance was saved. On 11 minutes Forrest’s shot was saved and on 17 minutes another Commons shot was saved.

In making that last shot, Commons grimaced in pain and that was that. Celtic didn’t have another shot on target until Nir Bitton’s spectacular goal. Kris retired to the bench soon after that grimace to pack ice on his thigh, and Celtic’s game fell apart.

What price that Malmo manager, Age Hereide, underlined the words Stop Commons in his notebook?

The remainder of the game was a lottery. We should have won, on the balance of chances, but we weren’t good enough to make sure. When Kris Commons gets that ice off, Ronny had better replace it with cotton wool.

Nice Panenka from Higginbotham.

The point about players making better decisions Do we actually have players who can make theses better decisions ? Or has our downsizing had this impact ( incidentally I think we need to be living within our means and cost base) Our possession play has been poor for over a season now. Regularly giving away possession, as someone put earlier numerous shots when the pass to a better position is on, or not taking the shot when this is on Players decision making may be a real issue ? Our tactics at times must also be questionable These comments are not based on tonight’s results, but what I actually see with my own eyes watching the team play Hail Hail – See more at: http://www.celticquicknews.co.uk/kilmarnock-v-celtic-live-updates/comment-page-18/#comment-2651917

Our lack of cohesiveness is an issue.

One team plays decent mobile football in two thirds then abandons tactic in final third.

Tonight in playing it from back we struggled as no one seemed like they wanted the ball.

All to frequently it went to full backs whose only outlet was cross field to centre backs or to Craig Gordon,

Our off the ball movement was akin to a sunday league team who had bevies it up on a saturday night.

Our coaching is not up to scratch this season so far and has to improve.

Perhaps he has an idea of style but lacks players to implement

  4. If Ronny had played our strongest team, and a couple of them had taken a knock, he would have been slaughtered, he rings the changes like he did at ICT last year, he gets slaughtered.

The sense of entitlement is amazing.

We are not good enough to blow teams away, that’s why they are at Celtic.

They all play to a different set of rules to us, they didn’t have a single player booked tonight, if the fouls had been reversed, we would have had many bookings and prob someone sent off.

I have the faith, seems many on here don’t.

Aye, blame the coach all you like, the real prob is higher up the food chain.

Too many naive fringe players in the team tonight………incidentally, .who stole the ref’s yellow card, and 2 minutes extra time….only in Scotland

I agreed 100% with your comment on previous blog

And nothing to do with players involved,

    But

Why remove your holding midfielder with 4 mins to go, and bring on a winger ?

Ronny’s tactics or decisions at times are questionable

Clever player…..too slow these days…..second touch in Europe is a tackle …..

Not fussed over tonight’s result. A disappointment yes, but overall signs are positive. We played well, dominated and created lots of chances. Hopefully, rumours of impending signings are true, especially on the striker front.

Not to disheartened we should have won easily with several squad players in the team who shone up well in my opinion

Never a penalty killie player dived quite clearly & the ref couldn’t get his card out fast enough to give it

    _____________________________________

    Few points about that post-

    Which squad players shone?

Those who weren’t 1st XI right now were (I think)- AMBROSE- He was dire (again); JANKO- 6/10; Rogic- Wasteful; McGregor- Nothing special.

Never a penalty??? Yes, it was IMHO. Might have been soft, but it was a pen. I can only imagine the outcry on CQN if the ref had denied us that at the other end.

You aren’t too disheartened? Well, I’m not saying it’s the end of the world. In fact, as we all should remember, it’s only a game. BUT- the laissez faire attitudes of some fans reflect that of PL and the board- the bare minimum will do for them.

However, Celtic FC should still be hammering Kilmarnock with a team like tonight (consisting of a majority of first teasers). We should have a replacement in each position better than any of Kilmarnock FC’s players. End of.

PS- I am not seeking an argument with you- I just totally disagree with your post!!

As for my tuppence worth on the match-

CG- Still best keeper we’ve had in quite a while (and I include FF)

    VVD- A rose amongst thorns.

Ambrose- (I repeat) was dire. He has not improved one iota over the past couple of seasons. He is a total liability.

Izzy- How frustrating. I sometimes love him, but his defensive play WILL be exposed in Europe.

Janko- An athlete. Hard to judge on such limited appearances, but I think he will come good. Maybe further up the pitch.

Forrest- best display in ages. I’m one of his critics but hats off for tonight, wee man. Keep it up.

Johansen- Utterly anonymous tonight. SB covers for him so often. Ronny never seems to take him off. Teacher’s pet. Better pull the finger out.

KC- Hope he gets back soon. One of few to unlock defences. One of few to turn possession stats into goal chances.

GMS- I’m repeatedly (not) seeing GMS going AWOL in games. Needs to improve. He also is defensively very suspect in terms of his positioning and lack of tracking back.

Bitton- Loving this guy. Our Busquets. Great goal, son.

    Rogic- Poor (see above)

Griff- bar the goal, was poor. No doubt frustrated in second period of first half when he was getting no service, but wouldn’t have scored a 2nd in a week

The performance was reflective of so many of our games- loads of possession and half chances, but little end product of real value.

We definitely need a decent striker of we want to move on. PL will not authorise the required investment prior to Malmo. He will roll the dice (again) with what we have. This is not good enough. We need real ambition, rather than words of intent.

  16. TET

    No sense of entitlement,

It is very early into the season, and playing on an artificial surface, same for both teams

    But

We are not taking enough chances, clinical enough.

Yes Ronny made changes to the team, Killie also had 5 players missing

    We should have won tonight

    Hail Hail

  17. Shucks.

    You’re all making me blush.

    I think I deserve a we beer.

    My nephrologist will approve.

I won’t lose any sleep over the performance.

We were exciting early on and created a load of chances.

The keeper and the woodwork kept Killie in the game.

  18. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

The Exiled Tim, we didn’t take our chances which is the main cause of us not winning but I agree with you about the ref not getting a hold of that git, Hammil. He fouled James and pulling one of our players back soon after and wasn’t booked.

Onwards to Saturday now and let’s get our job done against Caley.

  19. If Commons is the saviour for Malmo then Ghod help us. Good player yes but lacks pace & gives away possession far too often at European level. Two big positives from tonight were the performance of James Forrest & the quality shown by Nir Bitton in that one moment of brilliance. Hopefully both these guys will have a big say in both legs V Malmo.

    HH!

  20. Patrick27

If a Celtic player went down like that the media would be lining up ex referees to call them a diver, Neil McCann would be bursting a blood vessel etc

That being said, Izzie made it easy for the MIB and agree, a ref in Europe would probably have given it also.

  21. Whilst we are having a moan

New set up is poor. On iPad it Takes an age to load, longer to refresh, freezes and kicks out of internet altogether at times. On a Windows phone your lucky if you get on at all and when you do the above problems are worse.

    Apart from that it’s great!!

  22. blantyretim is praying for the Knox family on

Simply not up to expected standards

I mean cqn not the team performance

    Need to improve massively

  23. Created enough chances to win 2 games – over elaborate at times instead of getting a shot off. Although given offside – we should be scoring more goals like the CM one (chalked-off) – shoot and mop-up from spilled saves/ rebounds.

Too often the over inter-passing results in 6/7 players on the front foot resulting in the defending team clearing into acres of space in the midfield. Not convinced with Johansen being given a dominant/ holding role – poor touch and poor passer of the ball – does less damage (to us) further forward.

Sloppy play especially 2nd half – not dissimilar to 2nd half on Sunday.

Plus points; the 2-2 result will not affect the title race, 4/5 of tonight’s players will not start next Wednesday and…………….

I doubt the Malmo coached learned much tonight even allowing for the defensive howlers that resulted in the 2 lost goals.

Back on track Saturday and 100% focus on next Wednesday.

Starting to sound like a stuck record inside an echo chamber…”we need to take our chances, we could have scored 4 or 5, we must be more clinical” etc. etc. And we can’t continually blame the refs or the state of the pitches. If truth be told, we are an above average team in a very ordinary league. I imagine wee Del fae Aberdeen is a happy hun tonight.

  26. Delaneys Dunky on

Our strikers were wasteful tonight. We should have had 5 goals at least. We badly need a goalscoring striker in the Jorge Cadette type mould. It would change the dynamic of our team.

We really need to start taking our chances.

First 20 odd minutes were great. we had enough chances to win a few games. Forrest looked back to his best, Rogic added guile, Commons is a class above the rest of the SPFL…and then we stopped playing.

The back four were poor when it counted. Not just for the goals. Vvd switched off various times and gave the ball away. It’s still very early doors for Janko but he has to be braver on the ball. From what I’ve seen so far I’d have Fisher on before him. I’m sure Janko will prove a good signing in the long run but he’s not there yet.

Whenever we play with Johansen as a holding midfielder our game falls apart as he is not a good enough passer nor does he have a good enough touch to come back and receive the ball like Brown and Biton do. The ball becomes a hot potato at times when he comes back for the ball.

Today was a good wake up call against one of the poorest SPFL teams. We really need to get out forwards on form. We are just not firing on all cylinders upfront.
