  1. Just a castaway on an island lost at sea oh

Another lonely day no one here but me oh.

    No, wait, we’re back!

As I said pre kick off, I don’t like wholesale changes.

Aff oot tae golf. Full post mortem later……

  2. So to summarise since the debacle of yesterday.

When asked post match should Celtic fans be worried, BR replied “yes, I think they should be worried”. That statement was the most concerning thing from yesterday. For me the manager is off, its now a question of when. If he is, and everyone within the club knows this then that will only end one way, and not good.

CU hinting that he is going to China.

On the game, Gordon’s distribution abysmal, as usual, Hendry poor defending at winning goal, Lustig is done, wide players anonymous, Griffiths suffering from lack of support and chances and Brown setting the slow tempo. The system, if you can call it that is too easy to play against, side to side and backward passing allows teams to get back into their deep block and we don’t have anyone who can unlock a defence.

Mulumbu was the one bright spot.

Roberts, Armstrong, Dembele, if they were in the team yesterday we would have won, they have left and weren’t replaced so going into the season significantly weaker is now catching up with us (we weren’t that great but got away with it last season).

Celtic will always weaken from a position of strength, its the Celtic Way.

  3. Shocking performance yesterday, but we’ve been this bad since Christmas.

We seem to have a manager who has handed in his notice, who used to be able to change tactics mid game who is now a one trick pony, sussed by every other manager we play and a team who are not playing for said manager.

The squad and the manager are capable of much better, but need to show it. Playing like this we will win nothing. Lose the league this year and there is no legacy for Brendan Rodgers just a manager who blew it at the first sign of a crisis.

Still plenty of time to turn this around but no signs of the form that will do that.

  4. There is something seriously wrong with our beloved club, serious. What it is we will probabaly never know or find ou.t exactly what it is. Most of the talk is nothing other than pure speculation. I mean, how many people have an inside ear on what’s going on at Celtic. As I say, mostly speculation.

yesterday was nothing short of a disgrace from start to finish. The team were a joke. I cannot believe we can go from where we were 2 years ago to this, something very bad happening.!!

When I played and we were defending a corner, it was drummed into us to have a man on the far post. Basic stuff. Do we do that, no, we are too smart to do that!!

Sour grapes maybe, but plastic pitches give the home team a massive advantage, plus injuries are more readily picked up. Maybe our players were careful and feared injury, I don’t know.

One thing for sure is we have to stop this awful sideways/backwards passing, on the road to nowhere with that idea sadly.

I was and probably still am a Brendan fan , but if that is the way Celtic are destined to play then I’m afraid it will win us little.

    @ SAINT STIVS on 24TH SEPTEMBER 2018 10:25 AM

    Good post.

Those running the club have really messed up the investment and football side.

We had a net spend of a couple hundred thousand last year (and that’s before the sale of Dembele).

We have “Cash and cash equivalents £42,563,000”.

Our wage bill (for the whole business) decreased last year as a percentage of revenue.

The club appears to be well run because of the brilliance and achievements of Brendan over the last two years; not because of the board who have continually and resolutely failed to strengthen from a position of strength and under invest in the team.

An interesting stat: PL earned over £2m last year in basic pay and bonus. That’s more that the combined transfer fee of the following players who appeared for us yesterday: Hendry, Mulumbu, Morgan, Christie, Gordon, Lustig, Tierney, Johnstone and McGregor.

Obviously some of those players have progressed through our youth system, but the stat is indicative of our mismanagement. The team is an afterthought.

  6. I have thought for most of this season that BR has chucked it, wether or not he has another job I do not know , but this cannot go on this Celtic team are awful to watch and we make good players look bad, look at our coaches sitting there staring into space, no more of this if BR is going go and now.

  7. My friends in Celtic,

Surely circa 33 first team players with a wage bill of over £60m should be enough to compete in Scotland.

I really hope and trust BR et al can turn this round, but make no mistake the management team have the ultimate responsibility for events on the park.

    HH.

  8. Mulumbu was indeed the one bright spot. He looked like he cared. Our players never contest referees’ decisions. He was in Thomson’s face telling him he was failing to do his job. Add that to the disgraceful passive behaviour of our players when Naismith was screaming abuse in Hayes’ ear while he lay injured and our players did zilch.

The above is not a indication of talent but desire. It’s not why we lost but our players do not appear to have the desire anymore, neither does Brendan in my opinion.

  9. everyone and his granny must be trying to post.been trying for an hour to get on.

my thoughts .BRE is for the off and the players know it but have been sworn to secrecy.if that’s the case you would think word would leak out.

    anyone read E TIMS……………………………………….HHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

  10. And under no circumstances am I excusing the direction the board and PL are taking us in, they are more interested in image in having a nice location to play than the first team, they have been the architects of this along with scouting , the players recruited are nowhere near the standard to even win regularly here, Europe is pure fantasy.

    @ GREENPINATA on 24TH SEPTEMBER 2018 10:40 AM

We sold Dembele, Armstrong and Roberts and didn’t replace them.

I think the double treble attests to Brendan’s ability, but you cannot degrade the quality of the team and expect the same results.

Look at those who turned out for Celtic yesterday: an ageing Lustig (who is unfortunately spent), Jack Hendry, Mulumbu, Christie, Mikey Johnston (a youth player who is not ready yet) and Morgan.

If Sevco had signed any of the above this year (excluding Lustig) would anyone have batted an eye? You would think we had no money given the nature of our signings.

Add into the mix the total and irreversible loss of confidence by Sinclair and we have a huge issue.

  12. 50 shades of green on

    DAVID66 on 24TH SEPTEMBER 2018 10:25 AM

50 shades what did you make of yesterday’s team selection and performance..

    #######

I never went to the game yesterday mate, only seen it on TV.

My own opinion though is, we are definitely not flowing through teams the way we have done, poor performances from Sinky, Jack H and a few others.AND having no midfielder who will split the defence with a pass .

It was noticeable that we played the long diagonal pass a few times, but to no great effect, and whilst I like to see our youth making a breakthrough into the team I felt Mikey J wasn’t in the game much.

But having said all that if you defend or dont as the case may be with Kilmarnocks second goal, then you get what you deserve, the boy Findlay suckered Hendry and scored, compare that to Kirk Clubfoot against Dedryck and there you have the difference yesterday ( and yes we should have had a penalty at one point) However it could be argued that Dedryck was lucky to still be on the park by then.

So to summarise mate, bad day at the office all together.

Report card reads like a lot of mine, must try harder, and keep your concentration.

  13. i dont believe brendan had chucked it, or is going to china.

i do believe possession football is better than chasing the other team . having the ball is better than not having it. we started launching balls forward in desperation yesterday, waste of time.

i do believe the manager has not got the players he wants.

the board lack ambition, and what i mean by this is they are risk adverse, they cant deal with a manager with a big personality and big ideas on moving the team on the pitch to greater successes.

    something horrible happened with dembele.

that we never really backed the manager to sign paddy, thats another fail.

it really has been downhil since the end of the unbeaten run.

sure we beat the huns, sure we get up for cup finals, but league games, its poor.

    we are going backwards,

    sack the board

  14. Dubaibhoy-Ur they still deid? on

I suspect that Rodgers had originally been thinking about leaving at the end of the season in a completely professional manner, but during his altercation with Pistol Pete at the end of the transfer window it became apparent to him that Lawwell is not prepared to invest money on a soon to be departing manager, despite selling prized assets.

As a result Rodgers has chucked it and is going through the motions and we are left with a shambles. Might not be long before Pete gives WGS a call to see the Bhoys through to the end of the season.

But hey, the next manager will have a fully laden war chest to spend.

  15. 50 Shades cannot argue with your last post.

At one point we hit a diagonal ball 50 yards from ML to Sinky and he went back and the ball ended up back at ML. I mean come on wtf

    Not good enough

    Thanks for your reply however,

Paddy Roberts was never our player and James Forrest was keeping him out the team

In all likelihood Moussa Dembele would not of played yesterday had he stayed. Statistics tell us that.

Stuart Armstrong was a bit part player in the final throes of his Celtic career. How is he doing at Southampton?

We have more first team players than any team in Scotland

We pay more in wages than any team in Scotland.

We have more quality players than any team in Scotland.

Do you not think we should be doing better ?

    HH.

  17. Not surprised at all watching Celtic this season and last, that they turned another St Mirren into a disaster at Rugby Park.

A pivotal Celtic game in that stadium was when Neil Lennon rescued his career and snatched a draw,

and recovery of a ‘form’ was always unlikely to take place on plastic, a draw was all Kilmarnock wanted,

when they wasted time, in injury time to avoid taking their, gifted winning corner.

Five changes like for most, has never worked for our manager, and BR is struggling in domestic competition seven having won the first six. Suddenly as plotted, from the moment he spoke too much with the SMSM overnight he’s a spent force not just in Scotland, but also some of he Celtic support.

Tournament seven before you hit your first real speed bump can’t be too bad, and the Celtic support have only until Wednesday to see how rough things are, or if Tynecastle, St.Mirren, and now Kilmarnock are the new normal. Badly missed was the latest Celtic croc? £13M Benkovic pulled out, in the warm up maybe he didn’t like the length of the grass but it forced BR to make the fifth and perhaps fatal change, with whipping bhoy Jack Hendry fingered in conceding both Kilmarnock goals.

Wielding his axe didn’t work for BR only Mulumbu and Griffiths featured any better than players they replaced, supporting a missing in action midfield isn’t easy and BR game is well and truly sussed by Steve Clarke, if he’s forced to wait on Scott Sinclair, a player that appears to be suffering from football amnesia, in a very difficult

away fixture, you are running out of ideas.

By playing Mikey Johnston, a player who was to be loaned out, and then throwing on Lewis Morgan we have a man near the end of his tether IMHO. All so easy for the Monday morning quarterbacks, but throwing more wingers into the fray is searching for width that just isn’t available when you play crafty coaches, from Scotland or Europe.

Celtic haven’t had a truly creative midfielder player since long before we ran away with double trebles, so you can see why BR does the tried and trusted, BR didn’t get any good grace at Liverpool, but he’ll be allowed all the time he needs to reaffirm what a good manager he is with the champions.

    @ DUBAIBHOY-UR THEY STILL DEID? on 24TH SEPTEMBER 2018 10:51 AM

I would imagine that Brendan chucked it (if he indeed has) on account of the management’s approach to the transfer window.

There was no sign of discontent prior to this summer. We were nicely sailing towards 10IAR.

We then sell players and Brendan talks of replacing what has been lost (Roberts and Armstrong); we don’t.

We miss out on McGinn a player actively courted by Rodgers.

We then try and sell Boyata before CL qualification is finished (again no replacement in mind).

We then sell Dembele a couple days before the window close (again no replacement).

A net spend of near zero (before the Dembele sale) when we are the most profitable and successful in our history? What is going on?

    A shambles of epic proportions.

  19. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

    @ GREENPINATA on 24TH SEPTEMBER 2018 10:57 AM

    Thanks for the reply.

If it was as simple as having a higher wage bill then Celtic should have won trebles ever since Oldco were liquidated. You cannot distill football into bigger wage bill= winning every game. We need forward progress each year. Furthermore, why have £40m+ in the bank (before Dembele money). What end does that serve?

I also think it’s disingenuous to say that Roberts, Armstrong and Dembele are no loss.

In the same way as Dembele and Roberts were injured a lot last year, so was Griff and even Tom Rogic. Does that mean that if we lost Griff and Rogic our team would not be weaker? Of course not.

I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that Forrest is performing worse this year than last. Having true competition spurns people on. Having no true competition doesn’t.

The squad is significantly weaker without Dembele, Armstrong and Roberts. They may have been in the team last year. Yesterday we had Mulumbu, Johnston and Christie. That is a significant step down.

  20. Go tell the Spartim on

I think there is a joint responsibility to sort this out. Its too late to blame the parsimony of the board, they always fail in this regard its not difficult to evidence this. Of course they’ll all stay out the firing line until its safe to come out.

BR has his failings, of course he has and it appears he’s struggling with this ‘crisis’, i dont for a second think hed be that unprofessional to down tools, after all its his work with us thats rebuilding his reputation, much like the Chewbacca defence, it does not make sense.

The players……………………….how many of that team yesterday were part of the malaise in Ronny’s tenure. Some players just dont have what it takes but its not their fault they’re playing, some players have absolutely no form whatsoever, some players are just in the early stages of their careers. What do I expect, or most supporters expect, from the players? Some balls for instance, im not convinced that our tactics are to play the ball from side to side all day, surely a player has some responsibility to get the ball forward, most of our players at present look sh*t scared to do anything, is that down to us the support? as this recent crisis shows we have more than our fair share of bedwetters, who do nothing but criticise the team, players (i do this too but im trying to wind my neck in) at every moment during a game.

Mulumbu at least showed some spirit, basically if Brown doesnt play well neither do we, surely someone else has to step up.

What do we do next, do we circle the wagons and get behind the team, OF COURSE WE DO, no one else is gonna do it for us.

I expect the next few days the Manager will carry the can from all angles and not just the “i got no strings to hold me down” brigade, perhaps we should support him while he’s still here, weve still got ten in a row at stake.

  21. Reluctant to say too much at this time as i have so much going on in my head. However, you only need to look at the Managers body language in his interview with Celtic TV, it is very worrying. This situation which has evolved into a crisis was entirely avoidable. PL has an awful lot to answer for. IMO he needs to go. However he wont because he’s a control freak (allegedly) and has the backing of the Board and a hefty bonus to collect in 2020. What decent Manager is going to work under him going forward? It’s a question that needs to be asked because the rot has set in and when the rot sets in it means that sooner of later the Manager will leave. Gutted doesn’t cover it.

    Lawwell out.

  22. The Hands….

The squad is significantly weaker without Dembele, Armstrong and Roberts. They may have been in the team last year. Yesterday we had Mulumbu, Johnston and Christie. That is a significant step down.

    ————–

Nail on the head, you get what you pay for.

Sometimes we will get lucky as we have done lately but we’re not the only club playing that game.

The stands will empty like the Delia years if the board don’t get the finger/wallet out and spend some of our money….not theirs!

  23. traditionalist88 on

A picture paints a thousand words as they say and the image taken in the lead up to the Kilmarnock equaliser of Dedryck Boyata pointing out to Jack Hendry that he was badly out of position does exactly that.

The blind leading the blind about covers it.

  24. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

    @ SIPSINI on 24TH SEPTEMBER 2018 11:17 AM

I’m afraid that it may be too late.

We are in a tail spin and things could still get worse. One issue is that we are playing this way without any significant injuries. God help us if we lose one of our two strikers for any length of time or Brown or Tierney.

I envisage a Tony Mowbray style January window. Panic buys to rectify an issue that was caused through summer inertia.

  25. Concentrate on the facts.

Sideways passing ie ball retention is the way forward. Only if the players are moving. They are not middle to front.

We failed to improve since January.

Our highest paid employee is he a footballer ?

Yesterday Did you see the Kilmarnock players interview post match ? Two athletes, sweating and out of breath 5 minutes after the full time whistle.

The goal celebration when every player on the park personally congratulated Boyatta. Ignore what you are told in the media. That graphically told a story of how the guys in the dressing room think who is at fault.

Its interesting that the only game Celtic turned up for was the marker against thems.

Always telling when a team can out work and out fight a superior outfit. The players are not fully applying themselves.

  26. We were at it again yesterday with the old side to side passing. Walker was emphasising this in his commentary and kept saying how KT was the only one looking to pass it forward and taking responsibility. He was right. After that I watched Scott Brown with interest, he passed sideways and backwards frequently and even offloaded the ball sideways then immediately pushed his arms forwards gesturing to the team to move up . Last season and the one before, we would often see Brendan whistling and calling to the players from the sidelines, not seen that so often this year, we look rudderless and its showing.

  27. Did I hear Brendan say in after match interview that Celtic supporters should be worried about the way we are playing????

If so wtf come on Brendan it’s dopwn to you Ma man to make things better.

maybe try a different formation. 4-4-2 maybe? With 4 actual midfielders instead of 2 winger types .

    D. :)

  28. Poor poor game to watch. An off day doesn’t cover it.

There have been so many games like this for us when we’ve been held at at a draw anf you just feel we are going to score.

This feeling was the polar opposite. Fair play to Kilmarnock, they sussed ous out and kept at it.

I don’t have the footballing brain to work out how we came to that performance, but hopefully now, we will stop referring to treble trebles and 10 this, that an’ the other………..

Concentrate on the knittin’ – get the performace right , on and off the park.

The sleekit, hunned-up triumphalists will do their utmost to sow discord here and throughout Celtica.

We need to be better than that…………

    It’s not the Celtic Way.

  29. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

If Brendan has lost motivation and focus he needs to go now. It will only end badly for all if he doesn’t. Love the guy and what he’s done for us, but we need decisiveness now.

We are in trouble. The tactics, motivation and quality òf player are all concerns. P67 has reassured us only Celtic will win the league in perpetuity- not at this rate.

We almost never win when Jack Hendry plays for a reason. Stop playing him. He was a strange signing as had no pedigree. Not the only bad player we have, but is a complete liability: e.g. Yesterday, AEK away etc. Nowhere close to good enough.

  30. Yes really poor stuff at the moment . No doubt in my mind we needed a spend in the summer on a few quality players .

We were a bit unfortunate losing berkovic before the start , as young Hendry unfortunately has a way to come . It is a complete mystery how a team going through a season playing fantastic football only 2 seasons ago, can now deliver performances like vs st mirren , killie , and the diets . We have some players who need a good kick in the pants , but we have more needing moved on , and i include a few from the invincible season , some not pulling there weight , but one who will get no grief from me , is mikel lustik , he has been a great servant to our club , getting older, slower , but maybe had one injury for the cause to many . I am glad i dont have the job of turning this around , as I am completely stumped as to what has happened . I have no idea what is going on behind the scenes , but it is time a truce was implemented for the good of the club before it is to late to retrieve .we are only one point off the scousers champions of Europe with 6 games played , plenty time but quality improvements must be bought , and harmony restored within the club.

  31. Jack Hendry was an abomination at both goals. My heart sank when i saw he was playing. Nowhere near good enough and never will be.
