League pivots south, not quite Atlantic League

635

Back-to-back away games are statistically more likely to result in points being dropped than any other games (especially if one is a European game), so the probability of Aberdeen dropping points in Inverness last night was high. Their second night-game in the same week, on Friday at Firhill, will also be a genuine challenge.  I can’t find enough occurrences of a team having two away games in the same midweek to draw any statistical inference but I’m glad it’s Aberdeen’s lot, not Celtic’s.

That result felt profound.  Celtic can use the opportunity of a quiet week to prep for the visit of Inverness. A Highland double would go a long way towards the title.

On the “Atlantic League” story, little detail has been reported on what’s happened (ignore what has been reported) and where it’s heading.  The project is not at a mature stage yet, it’s not an Atlantic League, it’s not a collaboration of clubs from small nations, and no lower league clubs, anywhere, have been involved.  Apart from that, the story’s fine.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has kicked the sleeping dog.  We’ll see where he barks.

Time is running out for you to register for the Celtic Park Zip Slide, in aid of the Foundation, which takes place next month.  I did it last year and it was genuinely exhilarating.  Go here and register.

    67 EUROPEAN CUP WINNERS

I’ve mentioned this before, but when my best mate moved to Essex about twenty years ago,he decided to train as a referee.

No intention of top-level,he was in his mid-thirties at the time. Still does it,loves it,takes no nonsense as a fella of 6’4″

We’ve discussed how he would have got on had he started maybe ten years earlier,in Scotland. We agreed that with his background-went to a school that ticked the box, supported a team that did similar, attended his local church, blah blah,he’d have been fast-tracked.

I’d have loved it when he ran out to ref us or the huns, because I converted him to The One True Team in his late teens-and as you know, there’s nothing worse than a convert!

Ffs,woman. Quoting Paisley on here now?

Things you never thought would happen…

Btw,I believe my namesake jailed his son a few years back. Made me very popular in Kilwinning and on my earlier trips to Belfast.

    Made me smile,though…

    Bobby,

    Praise is allowed. : > )

A lot of the stuff is attrition-al, one positive comment, begets one negative one and so on, until someone blows a fuse and it’s carnage.

  4. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

A few comments although I do prefer the lurking lark these days.

No major structural change will happen in football until UEFA and FIFA are seen to be cleaning up. So I would suggest 4-5 years before anything concrete will happen. I do not believe that any of those changes will see the Old Firm or either of invited.

Surprised at the outpouring of joy that we are not quite as shoite as Aberdeen.

The recent signings means that Ronny will be around in August. I will push the boat out and say even if we do not win the SPL never mind CL qualification. If that were to happen I would definitely back him.

The accounts are not a surprise. The clubs aims embodied in the P&L statements

The accounts will be the exact same next year. This is why we exist. So expect turnover down but a small profit being registered. Small profits are us.

What midfielders should we let go for the summer ?

I suggest Skoosh, Bitton, Johanson and Commons

  5. If Sevco were to qualify for the new Atlantic League, what guarantee is there that they could afford to fulfil their fixtures?

The League would need some kind of floating charge…

  6. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

If it was only the Old Firm that was to get an invite. Would Celtic be prepared to pay Sevco´s 10 million pound bond to get entry ?

Fair enough, i play in the essex and suffolk border leagues and have played colchester and east essex.

That would narrow it down theres maybe two more he could ref in.

Its quite possible he’s reffed me.

No chance. Mention money to Celtic, even on a long-term view properly costed, and they’ll run a mile!

He stays in South-East Essex. I was winding him up the last time I saw him, about having a glow about him.

Brought up not too far from Hunterston, first house when married beside Cockenzie and now facing an old nuclear plant again. Who needs Ready-brek?

He may well have done, bud. You wouldn’t miss him. And he’s not lost his accent either.

    I believe his reaction to a foul isn’t a whistle,it’s-‘Haw,you!’

A moratorium on in fighting and spiteful negative comments would be a good idea. Between now and the end of the season there will be no changes so there is probably no point in it.

We all have our points of view. Ronny out/ ronny is great/ ostrich brigade/ lawwell out/ lawwell is a genius.

None of us will change. We see what we see and believe what we believe.

Of course it’s all cool at the moment because Aberdeen have imploded so we should kick on now and wrap it up. .so that’s me calling a ceasefire on ronny. .until the season ends

Of course one bad result and it will kick off again. ..but I won’t

Sevco would have access to any new European pyramid structure, provided their accounts are sound, they win the SPFL Premiership, and win a possible play off against a club at the bottom of the European pyramid.

So in reality they have no chance for at least 3 reasons ;)

  13. Who do we get to chair any inquiry in this Atlantic League if a club fields ‘improperly’ registered players, including subs of course?

    Lord Nemo Smith?

Assuming we can find him, that is.

Thanks for your comments. I have long had the feeling that I was on most people’s scroll-by list.

There is still plenty for us to vent our collective spleens on, especially the corruption within the authorities.

It is time to stand behind the club and get this title won.

  18. Just seen a pic of Ajer arriving at Glasgow Airport, he is a handsome young man, I reckon he will add quite a few young female fans to the weekly gate. I originally wrote that using the bums on seats cliche but when I read it back it sounded pornographic so I deleted it before Paul got his paws on it.

  23. Roberts has scored 3 and has 4 assists in a total tally of 8 goals over 2 games. According to tweets etc his overall general play is excellent, hopefully we will get a chance to see him in the first team squad soon. I heard Scott Allan was extremely impressive last night as well.
