League pivots south, not quite Atlantic League

635

Back-to-back away games are statistically more likely to result in points being dropped than any other games (especially if one is a European game), so the probability of Aberdeen dropping points in Inverness last night was high. Their second night-game in the same week, on Friday at Firhill, will also be a genuine challenge.  I can’t find enough occurrences of a team having two away games in the same midweek to draw any statistical inference but I’m glad it’s Aberdeen’s lot, not Celtic’s.

That result felt profound.  Celtic can use the opportunity of a quiet week to prep for the visit of Inverness. A Highland double would go a long way towards the title.

On the “Atlantic League” story, little detail has been reported on what’s happened (ignore what has been reported) and where it’s heading.  The project is not at a mature stage yet, it’s not an Atlantic League, it’s not a collaboration of clubs from small nations, and no lower league clubs, anywhere, have been involved.  Apart from that, the story’s fine.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has kicked the sleeping dog.  We’ll see where he barks.

Time is running out for you to register for the Celtic Park Zip Slide, in aid of the Foundation, which takes place next month.  I did it last year and it was genuinely exhilarating.  Go here and register.

I don’t know what camp I would be in re Ronny.

Was all for him at the start, really liked his outlook and what he intended to bring about, of course the msm spun it to his detriment, but he has stuck to his guns.

Now that is maybes his problem.

Reading on another blog that the dressing room is split, there was a major bust up after the RC cup game, some of the players don’t like te training and the coaching staff, could be out and out pish, but the rumours are out there whatever, I have read that some of the players have a prob with Johansen and his ego, again could be pish but it’s out there, and the msm will do anything to disrupt.

Which brings me to Ronny’s players, if we are to believe that those who have signed since he was appointed, I ask myself why some are out on loan and others he doesn’t give a sniff to.

If the likes of Ajer and Erik the Dane are down to him, it really does look like he will be around for some time, unless he looses the league that is, then he is gone, of that there is no doubt.

Anyways, I digress, which camp am I in, swithering, I can see green shoots, the likes of Christie, Ajer, Erik, Rogic, Allan, Boyatta, Janko, Roberts, even CKR could and should do a very decent job for us when all fit and ready to step up, young KT already has and the Griff has got better and better imo, I am willing to give him the time.

Not to say that I am a bit bewildered at times with his lack of lets call it plan B, the Quarabag game should have told him so much, we did what we had to and it worked, wasn’t pretty but effective.

If I was him, I would insist in getting my own coaches in, cos no way on this earth did he choose Collins and Kennedy, and the former is the one that the rumours are surrounding re player unrest, he’s really no helping himself in this regard.

If the rumours are true, then it’s the players who are partly at fault, and they need to be got rid of, and that takes time.

It all depends on Pedro at the end of the day I suppose.

Yes, I am willing to give him the time, I think :-)

  5. As someone else posted , looks like RD is getting a team of talented boys ready in the background . I sincerely hope his attention is firmly fixed on getting an enforcer in to protect these talented but ever so slight bhoys .

Ronny will do what he thinks is right. Some of us might not agree with his decision but he’s not deliberately going to select players that he thinks are poorer.

I’m grand my friend hope your still climbing those mountains :-)

My bhoys mate was directly up against young Roberts last night. Best player he’s ever played against was what he told LP jnr.

  11. Aye the Daily Times has got “warburtons concern over “closed shop”…..how daft was I thinking it concerned breed sales…….apparently its to do with K H Rummenigge europlans…….must be trying to boost the sales or is he the new scoddish “special one”

  14. Malc, They would have to take a fresh look at the rules as well, it would be hard to book lads for diving and in my opinion simulation should be applauded.

New cliches abound for after match interviews, Defeated players can feel as sick as a Pollock, whilst winning guys can come up with such gems as “we were treading water in first half but once we went ahead we cruised it.

The Supporters can get in act with a Mexican wave and You’ll never Swim Alone.

  16. If it’s the Atlantis League, the Huns and the Laptop Loyal could eventually have there Bobby Ewing moment….’it was all a dream…..’

    The Atlantic League ll?

It’s a mystery, inside a riddle, wrapped up in an enigma.

  19. Andrew Dallas on the SFA’s list of International References. That has to be a story for any interested hack. (I know, I know there are none). But really, how can that be? How many top flight games has he actually done? How many big cup ties? This is incredible. Obviously his name is known because of his dad but leave aside any prejudice, how on earth can he be put forward at this stage of his refereeing career by the SFA as an international referee. Surely it is at the very least a reasonable question; explain clearly the criteria.

As for Willie Collum, time and time and time again he is found out as a rank rotten official. Aberdeen suffered last night, we have in the past, Hearts have had their say about practising with ten men. Where is the accountability?

I feel for Aberdeen. How can we complain about what it has cost us and not stand beside them. I read the ‘stop bleating’ comments and disagree. Bleat and bleat hard. Backed by calls for transparency from all clubs and fans on the marks given by referee supervisors, have them published, publish the marking criteria, detail the rewards (big game appointments) and clarify the consequences. Is it not reasonable Collum should have, for example, x weeks in the lower leagues following last night?

Why shouldn’t we have complete transparency over all of this? Really, the pressure on referees intensifies and the game is damaged without it.

I see we have Don Robertson as referee versus ICT. Not a name I’m familiar with, hopefully new blood, nervous, overwhelmed by the crowd……

Time and again our game gets tainted by referees and we are just to put up with it. It’s garbage.

  20. Blantyrekev,

I sympathise with much of what you say but there are too many vested interests in leaving things the way they are that I doubt we will ever see what you seek. Too many clubs over the years have benefited from our being cheated.
