League pivots south, not quite Atlantic League

635

Back-to-back away games are statistically more likely to result in points being dropped than any other games (especially if one is a European game), so the probability of Aberdeen dropping points in Inverness last night was high. Their second night-game in the same week, on Friday at Firhill, will also be a genuine challenge.  I can’t find enough occurrences of a team having two away games in the same midweek to draw any statistical inference but I’m glad it’s Aberdeen’s lot, not Celtic’s.

That result felt profound.  Celtic can use the opportunity of a quiet week to prep for the visit of Inverness. A Highland double would go a long way towards the title.

On the “Atlantic League” story, little detail has been reported on what’s happened (ignore what has been reported) and where it’s heading.  The project is not at a mature stage yet, it’s not an Atlantic League, it’s not a collaboration of clubs from small nations, and no lower league clubs, anywhere, have been involved.  Apart from that, the story’s fine.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has kicked the sleeping dog.  We’ll see where he barks.

Time is running out for you to register for the Celtic Park Zip Slide, in aid of the Foundation, which takes place next month.  I did it last year and it was genuinely exhilarating.  Go here and register.

Rosemarys baby Dallas is destined for the top in Scotland and elsewhere with his Das input , even if they have to throw Gollum “under a bus” to make a space for him, Gollum is being hounded for a reason imho Its Rosemarys baby.

Ronny is his own man and it is a good job he is as the advice he gets on the various bloggs is different from day to day.Now we surely have to accept that he sees the players at training day to day so he knows there fitness there attitude and there form and I am certain if any player is a stand out at training he would select that player for the first team why wouldnt he ? H.H.

I have looked at the penalty incident from last night. The Aberdeen player`s foot was almost head high. What should the referee`s decision have been? His foot was DEFINITELY too high . Is that a direct free kick ( penalty) or an indirect free kick? Genuine question.

I’ve not seen the Aberdeen incident but do remember Nani for Man Utd being red carded in a CL match for high feet

  10. Incidentally refs do have a harder time than in the past. I’d fine and issue retrospective bookings to players who remonstrate and undertake dramatic method acting to bully and influence referees.

A favourite is to rake your studs down a calf in a slide tackle and stand up immediately outlining the round shape of a ball with your cupped hands in the international language of ‘I may have crippled my opponent but I touched the ball ergo ‘play on’ was the correct call ref’.

Where the player has lied and did not touch the ball I would add additional points to the players record, whether or not he got booked or sent off for it.

Then there are countless episodes where a player adopts the shocked look of a child seeing a cat run over by a bus for the first time. Hands on head, lean forward, knees bent, eyes like saucers, mouth agog. Look at the ref, look at team mates, break into ironic mocking smile as the ref reaches for his pocket and the stretcher bearers arrive to scoop up your motionless prostrate opponent. That’s a three points offence.

While we’re going down this route I’d give a penalty point on the player’s record if incorrectly claims a throw in or corner 4 times in the same match.

I’d make strikers who don’t score in 5 consecutive matches shave off any hipster facial hair. I’d make any player who does not have at least 10 goals in the season do community service for revealing any message on a T shirt under their strip when the idiot eventually scores. I’d book players for multiple offsides on the same basis as any other persistent fouler. I’d book players for missing the target with a penalty.

Apart from that football is on the right track and I’m off for my dinner.

Your we comment about the five stars on the hun tops being as of next year representing their lifespan, didn’t go down very well with Thems :)

Did go down well with my fellow Tims though. :))

Cork City Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Eoghan O’Connell, on loan from Celtic until July.

  13. Was interesting to see the level of interest in the game last night; I’d love a real title race with meaningful games to near enough the end of the season…

The Championship party will be all the sweeter.

Inverness is always a tough venue and the Dons don’t have a great record against them, last night’s result was on the cards and it was very welcome. I suspect they’ll beat Thistle on Friday allowing us to take the spotlight on Saturday and hopefully responding positively.

Ironic the abuse WC got from BBC radio last night; the same journalists, broadcasters and pundits who pilloried our club at the time of the ref’s strike about us questioning decisions. Still it lets them vent their frustrations and WC will be laughing all the way to the bank this summer anyway.

  14. BMCUWP’S, ROBERT88,

My only regret about never reffing a match involving the huns was that I missed the chance to send off Barry F just for looking like a dick, awarding us 4 pens, ordering a retake if any were saved and keeping doing so until we scored, giving any pass they made as offside, even when they were in their own half, and sending The Cardigan out of the ground, not just to the stand. And all at Ibrox. Ah well, we can dream.

    FIFA Rules…

A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following seven offences in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:

    • kicks or attempts to kick an opponent

    • trips or attempts to trip an opponent

    • jumps at an opponent

    • charges an opponent

    • strikes or attempts to strike an opponent

    • pushes an opponent

    • tackles an opponent

An indirect free kick is also awarded to the opposing team if, in the opinion of the referee, a player:

    • plays in a dangerous manner

    • impedes the progress of an opponent

    • prevents the goalkeeper from releasing the ball from his hands

    • commits any other offence, not previously mentioned in Law 12, for which

play is stopped to caution or send off a player

He needed going somewhere with Eric, Jozo, Boyata, Efe & even Charlie ahead of him he had no chance of a game at Celtic Park.

  18. The most officious refereeing decision I ever saw was when my auld boy sent off my mate’s wee brother for repeated encroachment on the subbuteo pitch. Sent the wee man home.

Referee who before his first old firm game said his mentors were cheat and liar Dougie Mcdonald and bigot Hugh Dallas, who went on in that game to give rangers a penalty for a blatant dive even although he was facing the opposite direction (Gollum).
