  1. Saw the first 30 minutes.

    Saw the last 30 minutes.

The difference between the two is the big worry.

We took our time in the first half but hen we got on it we were looking very good.

The second half included some of our better players but we looked a different team.

The cohesion had gone / the desire had gone / the energy had gone.

We made their stiffs look good after showing up their firsts.

DT and YI had a chance to shine and they didn’t — very anonymous until YI put in few challenges in the last 10 minutes.

Seems to follow a pattern — the first team give their all and the second team look for inspiration but rarely find it — suggests we still have a lot of work to do mentally as well as physically.

Player pathway — who will make their mark this season from the B team / youths?

First up did anyone come through last season — doesn’t look like it to me?

AM — played but not good enough for this season — sent out on loan.

OM — played but currently seen as a B team player.

Going by the squad set up three to look out for:

JK — he has played and scored in the pre-season.

AR — nothing so far / had a bad injury last season.

DM — again nothing so far.

Plus the SW — repeat SW not SU — pair who look very much like NL’s last hurrah.

Hopefully somebody comes through and makes his mark.

  2. Listen to Ange,

When asked if first half was the best we had ever played.

“NO, THAT’S LOOKING AT IT HALF GLASS FULL, ABSOLUTELY. THERE WAS SOME GOOD FOOTBALL BUT WE CAN BE BETTER – WE WILL BE BETTER.

“WE’RE IN A PHASE OF PRE-SEASON WHERE THE BOYS ARE WORKING HARD. WE’RE MAKING SOME MISTAKES THAT ARE NOT NORMALLY THERE BECAUSE OF THAT FACTOR BUT IT’S THE ONLY WAY WE’RE GOING TO BE GOOD THIS YEAR IF WE WORK HARD THROUGH THIS PERIOD.

“ONCE THE GAMES START, WE WON’T BE ABLE TO (MAKE MISTAKES). THERE ARE EXAMPLES TO IMPROVE IN THE FIRST-HALF, SECOND HALF… THERE’S ALWAYS EXAMPLES TO IMPROVE.

“THE POINT OF THE EXERCISE NOW IS NOT TO WIN GAMES OF FOOTBALL, THE POINT OF THE EXERCISE IS TO PREPARE A TEAM TO WIN GAMES OF FOOTBALL. TODAY WAS ANOTHER PROCESS FOR US WHERE WE NEED TO KEEP BUILDING AND WORKING HARD IN TRAINING TO MAKE SURE WE’RE READY WHEN THE REAL STUFF KICKS OFF.”

The second half included some of our better players but we looked a different team.

That’s because it WAS a different team.

They did struggle to settle in the second half but I thought they played well in the final 20 minutes and controlled the game in that period.

  4. Lazing in the Garda sun enjoying the good life. Walked into the Hotel restaurant this morning and the first sight to greet me was a fine looking gentleman resplendent in the new away top! So the holiday has got off to a flier.

My grandson and I watched the Legia game yesterday on Celtic TV. I thought we were unplayable in that first half. That’s the kind of football I want to watch. It should have been 4 or 5 for us. The inevitable whole sale changes disrupted our play and allowed Legia back onto it. Can’t wait for the league opener.

  5. Considering going along on Saturday as I think we have a warm up match and there isn’t much else to do.

Is this the last of our pre season games or is there another one midweek ?

  6. TMcL @ 11.16

You are right — they did settle.

The issue for me is the length of time it took.

There was not a lot of leadership on the park in the second half.

JMcC looked as if he had just come of the boat from Aus — still with his sea legs.

Not at the races — he looks as if he cannot cope playing for a team on the front foot.

He is 31 / he is a player with a huge talent / he has had 10 years at the top.

yet he looks to be in testimonial mode.

Maybe ArM will be the jolt he needs.

    Hope you are enjoying Garda.

I am over there end of September. It is one of the few bits of Italy I don’t know well.

It is Lake Majorre as a base for me but hope to get around the area a wee bit.

Adidas have done is proud with their kits and gear. It helps to have the lead designer and his partner as real genuine lifelong Celtic fans who ‘get’ the club.

There are no such things as pre-season friendlies.

Just ask BR / RV for evidence of that.

The bottom half of the squad need a boot up the erse.

Just because we have a starter head of you doesn’t mean you don’t have to think / drive yourself towards a good performance — some shirts in the second half would appear to be flapping about in the wind.

Interesting point on the kit designer.

Main thing for me is the fact that our kit comes from a tip of the spear / front rank sports company — makes a huge difference in both design quality and retail visibility.

The support will always buy the stuff — especially if the manager has got the squad fired up with good players coming in / good football on the park.

The real sign of success for our kit partner is if people outside our fanbase start to wear it — marginals will start to wear it if the results go well but the complete outsiders will wear it if the design / product is high quality.

You could call it the export test — external demand being the acid test of quality.

Not sure we are there yet in the design stakes — good but not brilliant.

I would hope that the club has an internal design arm to push the supplier.

We should do an internal fashion show using local / GSA talent.

We need to work every angle / sweat every asset if we are going to finance a new main stand …

Celtic raising the bar with new matchday facilities

    By Celtic Football Club

Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce that it is to open a new Matchday Bar at Celtic Park, allowing a dedicated ‘walk-in’ bar facility for supporters which can be accessed on a first-come, first-served basis on home matchdays.

The target opening date for the brand-new bar, to be located in the South West corner area of Celtic Park, is early October.

The existing Kerrydale Bar facility will now offer access to fans predominantly on a seasonal basis.

The new bar facility will regularly open up to four hours prior to kick-off on matchday, thereby giving access to supporters from 11am on the day of a 3pm kick-off. There will be no pre-booking or reservation required in advance.

Furthermore, the new bar will incorporate a Café facility that will be open regularly out with matchdays, including access to visitors on Celtic Park stadium tours.

In addition, the club will now also be opening the lower West area of the Jock Stein Stand pre-match to provide further convenience to supporters. This additional access, via Gate WS57/58, offers supporters early entry to Celtic Park to meet and gather indoors on a home matchday, with indoor access to catering kiosks and toilets.

Supporters will also be able to access the facilities up-to four hours before a standard 3pm kick-off.

This additional access for supporters will commence from this Saturday, July 23 for the 3pm kick-off against Norwich City, a match that is included on the 2022/23 Season Ticket.

Further updates on the new Café Bar facility will be provided over the coming weeks in the lead up to its opening. Celticfc.com will also provide accurate opening and closing times for all home matchdays relative to kick-off times ahead of every fixture.

Spent a great holiday in Malcesine, a small town on the shores of Lake Garda. Very handy for bus trips to Verona, Venice, Florence and the Dolomites. Rome just a couple of hours by train.

    Lovely part of the world.

  17. Still good for fishing 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟

To on to the web cam and I’ll give you a wave ….

I must be a republican at heart.

Got as far as Peacehaven once — to see the urban poverty of the South Coast.

Plus Dungeness to see the fishing fleet and the tar paper shacks.

    Scary part of the country.

It is a start — and a very low rent start.

Are they not bringing back into use facilities that we had in 97/98?

Did we ever have some sort of tie-in with McD’s?

  20. I don’t think I have been looking forward to a football season as much as this since the year after our trophyless Seville season.

Arguably the season which followed Seville was one of our best ever. Possibly our 2nd best ever I would say.

We only won 2 domestic trophies (Davie Hays Livingston won the League Cup after we lost to Hibs) but we beat :

Kaunas, MTK Budapest, Lyon, Anderlecht, (nearly Bayern) , Teplice, Barcelona and finally lost in a great atmosphere to Villarreal.

We won the league by a country mile and the Scottish Cup was never in doubt.

Hopefully we can better that this season with some great football and a positive domestic and European campaign. Despite the pre season gloom mongers I have rarely felt more positive as a Celtic supporter.

  21. East looks better than the west …

Loving “Butlins” and its knock off Millennium Dome tents.

The things you learn on CQN.

  22. ` Despite the pre season gloom mongers I have rarely felt more positive as a Celtic supporter.`

There are a handful of posters on here who will require Google Translation to understand that comment .

  23. I was chasing eggs at the time so I only had a rather detached view of Wee FMcC’s revolution.

I think I can remember a headline but not the actual detail.

Question to CQN — did we ever have a tie-in with McDonalds back in the day / 97’ish?

Did they sponsor the family section?
