just to add, any of the older Celts here who suffered through the barren years, or who saw a Financially doped Hun team funded by EBTs cheat us & win Title after Title will never tire of winning Leagues ,
I don’t give a Continental F**k if it’s a 2 horse race as long as the Celtic win.
Obviously I would welcome a 3rd or 4th force to rise up & challenge both us & the Huns but I can’t see it happening anytime soon .

Sadly I listen the the British output of the BBC and it has been almost intolerable this past 2 weeks. It will only get worse as they are going to win it for the Queens Jubilee etc.
The lionesses were not half the football team the Spanish were but ultimately they outmuscled and got a few decisions when it mattered. Although the Spanish manager could have had more faith in his team despite 3 stars missing with injury.
For me Just as the jingoism around Eddie Jones and what his dog has for breakfast really ‘rips Ma knitting’ it is the same with the Engerland football teams the deeper they go in tournaments. I am sure we will be hearing nothing but lioness chat and spirit of 66 for the next few weeks.
When living in London I came within a penalty shootout of having to watch them in a World Cup final over in Rome in 1990 ( I had to take customers to the Final W Germ v Arg in the end ) and I would really not like to ever see them so close to winning again.
Sorry Tom but it really is ‘anyone but Engerland’ for me. Maybe it sounds a bit bitter on reflection but not sure I will change at my age.

Missed the middle-of-the-night game but read-back suggests same as what we’ve seen all pre-season.
First eleven superb and bordering on barrow fulls, second string patchy. pathetic and porous.
What a superb bit of business by the currant buns. 250k out for almost 20mill in. Ajax must see something in the big lump as I didnt think they splurged large on emerging players – Ajax love to buy low and sell high.

“But by then Joe Hart being that far out of his goal will have prevented a number of chances / goals and also help the defence to beat the opposition’s attempted press.”
———————————
Great players who are positionally aware of the whole field ( past example are Beckham and Rooney ) will instantly convert a change in possession to an easy lobbed goal if a keeper is 35 yards out of his goal. We recently saw Schick for the Czech Republic make Marshall look positively ridiculous, like a fish stuck in a net, with a lob from fully 50 yards, and there are many better players than Schick in the CL Group Stage.
Now focus on our penchant for losing possession in Europe, often by passing straight to the opposition. Having a cart horse like Joe near the halfway line is utter folly, especially when the opposition players will be far faster than those of the mediocre opposition we have played so far. He has already lost a daft goal in pre-season by being out of position and being too slow to collect an errant back pass. A few days ago, Charlie Mulgrew passed directly into his own goal against Sunderland as his keeper was stranded in no man’s land. I also remember Arsenal and England keeper Seemans getting lobbed from 50 yards in a Europa League Final. Demoralizing, and makes the players look utterly foolish.
But don’t worry – I don’t come on here saying I was right, even although I occasionally am.

I posted on Monday we drew two all with Blackburn because we didn’t capitalise on our super football first half , tonight was deja vu we should have went in at half time 4-0 up Forrest should have had a hat trick , and again a bit of uncertainty in defence raised its ugly head . Hope the new C H tightens it up , not a lover of very small full backs either won’t be surprised if that costs us in Europe , I feel were also still light in midfield again I hope mooy can toughen that area up Too . Curious to see if we will bring anyone else in ?
My own feeling is we have too many options already and that is assuming we clear out some of the deadwood.
Our first 3 games will tell us a lot. We will be playing against teams who have had 4 competitive games more than us in the league.
Only Hearts out of our first 5 opponents will have played less than 4 competitive games more than us when we play them.
Despite this I would hope and expect we are far better off than after 5 games last season.

Not surprised to read of Leicester City’s interest in Matt O’Riley, assuming it’s genuine and not just paper talk, although the story emanated from a local Leicester paper rather than the mischievous Scottish rags hoping to unsettle the player.
Celtic have a knack of finding gems from the lower English leagues at minimal cost who progress to be multi-million pound stars coveted by rich Premier League or European clubs. Moussa Dembele and Jeremie Frimpong are prime examples.
Ange had the right attitude when asked about potential interest in Matt, accepting that it is to be expected when players excel on the park, but at the same time pointing out that he has seen nothing in the player’s attitude and demeanour that suggests he is thinking of pastures new.
I can’t wait to see Matt O’Riley strut his stuff this season.
