  1. Said last night, don’t give a damn about friendly results.Win or lose.We saw tonight in the 1st half the way we play. Not seen since Tommy Burns time.

They were a big, physical, into their season side at home.Instead of moaning, talk about our brilliant midfield interplay.Hatate,O Riley,superb.2 brilliant goals,3 off the post,4 sitters missed.

Small bit of luck, could have been 5 at half time.Thats attacking football,Ange style.

  2. just to add, any of the older Celts here who suffered through the barren years, or who saw a Financially doped Hun team funded by EBTs cheat us & win Title after Title will never tire of winning Leagues ,

I don’t give a Continental F**k if it’s a 2 horse race as long as the Celtic win.

Obviously I would welcome a 3rd or 4th force to rise up & challenge both us & the Huns but I can’t see it happening anytime soon .

So in the meantime it’s Revenge for Tommy Burns,

  3. The wee brilliant footballing Spanish women,2-1 down to the big, strong, less skilled England women.

Terrific game.Ah well, just left now to the magnificent French girls to win it.

    Hearing

    ‘It’s coming home’

Echoing round Brighton stadium makes me want to throw up

I thought you of all people would have been above the sort of nonsense.

  5. If you thought the male commentators were bad when Engerlund were playing, the women would put them to shame.HARPIES.

Looks like Hibs will need to qualify for the last 16 of the League Cup through the back door with Falkirk certs to win the group.

  7. ST TAMS on 20TH JULY 2022 6:28 PM

Welsh jumped out the way of the shot, for the second goal

    ————-

    No he didn’t.

It was Turnbull who attempted to block the shot, half turning his back and the ball went under / between his raised legs.

Joe 35 yards out of his goal again. This will eventually come back to bite us.

    ———

And eventually you will be able to come on and say I told you so.

But by then Joe Hart being that far out of his goal will have prevented a number of chances / goals and also help the defence to beat the opposition’s attempted press.

Sadly I listen the the British output of the BBC and it has been almost intolerable this past 2 weeks. It will only get worse as they are going to win it for the Queens Jubilee etc.

The lionesses were not half the football team the Spanish were but ultimately they outmuscled and got a few decisions when it mattered. Although the Spanish manager could have had more faith in his team despite 3 stars missing with injury.

For me Just as the jingoism around Eddie Jones and what his dog has for breakfast really ‘rips Ma knitting’ it is the same with the Engerland football teams the deeper they go in tournaments. I am sure we will be hearing nothing but lioness chat and spirit of 66 for the next few weeks.

When living in London I came within a penalty shootout of having to watch them in a World Cup final over in Rome in 1990 ( I had to take customers to the Final W Germ v Arg in the end ) and I would really not like to ever see them so close to winning again.

Sorry Tom but it really is ‘anyone but Engerland’ for me. Maybe it sounds a bit bitter on reflection but not sure I will change at my age.

  10. I enjoyed that game.we were more like ourselves.

Good to see plenty of running, movement and flair I both our goals.we learned lots am sure

2nd half, more looking at individuals.game became mishaped with all the subs.am sure Ange learned lots which will make us stronger.

AIPPLE thanks for that post,I asked their media team for a translation,it was emotional stuff for the Holy goalie.

Hope the plans are going well for your upcoming trip👍

Missed the middle-of-the-night game but read-back suggests same as what we’ve seen all pre-season.

First eleven superb and bordering on barrow fulls, second string patchy. pathetic and porous.

What a superb bit of business by the currant buns. 250k out for almost 20mill in. Ajax must see something in the big lump as I didnt think they splurged large on emerging players – Ajax love to buy low and sell high.

Embdy saying we’ll get decent fees for Albi, Mikey, Welshy, Macca and Bainy is dreaming – a cumulative 4million if we were very lucky.

Still, lots to be excited about as the Ange revolution continues. HH

“But by then Joe Hart being that far out of his goal will have prevented a number of chances / goals and also help the defence to beat the opposition’s attempted press.”

    ———————————

Great players who are positionally aware of the whole field ( past example are Beckham and Rooney ) will instantly convert a change in possession to an easy lobbed goal if a keeper is 35 yards out of his goal. We recently saw Schick for the Czech Republic make Marshall look positively ridiculous, like a fish stuck in a net, with a lob from fully 50 yards, and there are many better players than Schick in the CL Group Stage.

Now focus on our penchant for losing possession in Europe, often by passing straight to the opposition. Having a cart horse like Joe near the halfway line is utter folly, especially when the opposition players will be far faster than those of the mediocre opposition we have played so far. He has already lost a daft goal in pre-season by being out of position and being too slow to collect an errant back pass. A few days ago, Charlie Mulgrew passed directly into his own goal against Sunderland as his keeper was stranded in no man’s land. I also remember Arsenal and England keeper Seemans getting lobbed from 50 yards in a Europa League Final. Demoralizing, and makes the players look utterly foolish.

But don’t worry – I don’t come on here saying I was right, even although I occasionally am.

Totally agree I can’t find much fault in your post . I posted on Monday we drew two all with Blackburn because we didn’t capitalise on our super football first half , tonight was deja vu we should have went in at half time 4-0 up Forrest should have had a hat trick , and again a bit of uncertainty in defence raised its ugly head . Hope the new C H tightens it up , not a lover of very small full backs either won’t be surprised if that costs us in Europe , I feel were also still light in midfield again I hope mooy can toughen that area up Too . We’re a super skillfull team but areas within the team can still be improved .

A small gathering at the Shipbank tomorrow 1pm. All welcome, no exceptions. 👍

  19. 10 more sleeps until we see Celtic start their season….. it’s been a long break. Too long.

Curious to see if we will bring anyone else in ?

My own feeling is we have too many options already and that is assuming we clear out some of the deadwood.

Our first 3 games will tell us a lot. We will be playing against teams who have had 4 competitive games more than us in the league.

Only Hearts out of our first 5 opponents will have played less than 4 competitive games more than us when we play them.

Despite this I would hope and expect we are far better off than after 5 games last season.

Celtic have confirmed that new banners will be in place around the stadium exterior in time for the opening league game v Aberdeen.

    Good morning all.

Looks like another beautiful day in prospect.

A great day to be a Celtic fan ….

… But, then again, aren’t they all?

  22. SUPERSUTTON

I know Turnbull turned his back . But Welsh watched it go by him thinking it was going by the post. When a good defender would have tried to block.

  23. If Ange wanted to win that game yesterday we would have won it,

His priority was not winning the game, it was to give match time to as many if the squad as possible, build match fitness & get more of the squad used to the system & style he wants us to play,

If a load of old farts watching the game on Telly or a dodgy stream can see & identify mistakes & problems, I think it’s fair to assume that Ange & his back up team who are watching game can do likewise,

Not trying to stop discussion, it’s a Blog and by all means make ye’re points & chat away but don’t take yourself too seriously.

Like most Celtic fans I would love to see us win every game but

results at the moment are not important and are fitness exercises

to get us to the stage that we will be ready when the REAL games

start, beginning with Aberdeen where I expect us to be ON IT for

the full 90 minutes and hand out a humping to the sheep

  25. I see Stephen Welsh is telling all and sundry about what’s needed to get to our best.

Stephen you forgot to mention you are a big part of the problem in defence.

Fix your own game first before bumping your gums .

Not surprised to read of Leicester City’s interest in Matt O’Riley, assuming it’s genuine and not just paper talk, although the story emanated from a local Leicester paper rather than the mischievous Scottish rags hoping to unsettle the player.

Celtic have a knack of finding gems from the lower English leagues at minimal cost who progress to be multi-million pound stars coveted by rich Premier League or European clubs. Moussa Dembele and Jeremie Frimpong are prime examples.

Ange had the right attitude when asked about potential interest in Matt, accepting that it is to be expected when players excel on the park, but at the same time pointing out that he has seen nothing in the player’s attitude and demeanour that suggests he is thinking of pastures new.

I can’t wait to see Matt O’Riley strut his stuff this season.

As someone else said – it’s a great time to be a Celtic supporter.

I think that is very unfair.

Stephen was interviewed by CelticTV after the game in Warsaw and gave an honest assessment.

You make it sound like he went running to the media to “bump his gums”.

I would expect Welsh to be backup this season and I believe he has played reasonably well in the pre-season games.

  29. Morning

Not having a dig at anyone as I kind of feel that full backs should be able to defend well, however could someone suggest a modern full back that isn’t more of a winger as that is the way the game is played now

Both Liverpool players are great going forward but average defensively and they are counted among the best in the world
