  1. none of this decade of celtic board in years 2009 2010 2011 and recently 2021 2022? gifting rangers titles to keep them alive and competitive will end until a celtic board person fronts up and comes clean to celtic fans that rangers are celtic’s business partners and that if rangers go financially into jeopardy then the likelihood is that rangers will go awol from the top Scottish league, probably for another five year period and “again” 50% or thereabouts of celtic’s attendances will disappear as well like it did last time, so both the board and the fans have to get real about the bond or bondage of celtic v rangers rivalry, bitter though it is, and both board and fans get real, stop living in denial, and admit the bond or bondage of both clubs linkage. that’s it.

a board member comes clean and states the obvious.

or….. fans get militant sever the board restructure the club away from old firmism with a view to moving to a new league without our historic hooligan business partner and mantra of the board who will sacrifice celtic fans wishes to maintain old firm.

    what is most likely?

  2. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Out and about watching an amateur football game today with a Celtic feed on the background.

Fairly tough watch. Thought we were fine 0-20 minutes during which they had 3 bookings and were on the back foot.

20-45 seemed like the time to turn the screw ….. which we did …..

    …. Anti-clockwise (!).

Got over it on the journey home.

    Just another bump.

    Disappointing on here though.

Doesn’t take much for two groups to appear

    1. The “we’ll struggle for top 4” brigade

    2. Those testing the water with “Ange might need replaced” comments.

    IMHO, frankly pathetic.

OPINION – Ange’s team won’t hit consistently “quite good” for at least another two months.

    (We’ll rock at Celtic Park).

Fitness, Culture, Psychology, Tactics, Player personnel, Coaching personnel.

Turned around, embedded and fully tuned to the maximum in 14 weeks?

    Get real.

    More bumps ahead.

  3. all of a sudden we have fans one here asking for Ange to make changes!! do what exactly? the squad is on its knees due to injuries back to front on key players and positions. Its called bad luck and so far this season we have been unable to start with the same backline, midfield or forward line.

THESE ARE SIGNIFICANT FACTORS for any team to deal with. Add on the plastic , the travel etc.

We have completely overhauled the football club in the space of a month – key players have left, new players in, new coach etc.. YET we are only 4 points off the top.

Today was a poor performance – however there are plenty of indicators that suggest we are on the right track and just need s bit of luck with players returning and gelling. The coach needs time to learn the Scottish game.

    ENJOY THE JOURNEY BHOYS!

  4. Just watching sportscene. Stonewall penalty to motherwell not given. Clear offside goal allowed to stand. Their finishing was awful.

They are nowhere near their freakish form of last season. The league title is there to be won.

  5. Saw the post match interview with Ange questioning the mentality of players going into the game and talking about previous performances at Livi

Maybe I am missing something, but

    1) I would have thought the attitude of his team is a fairly fundamental part of his job?

    2) By my calculations over half the starters are his signings and hadn’t played there previously

  6. Rollinstone,

All 3 mentioned contributed zero in the first half and the 2nd for what time they played. Don’t disagree with your thinking but these 3 stunk the place out.

Ange will need to learn to change (even 1st half he could have switched Yoto and Abada to test LB with Jose in support). If he doesn’t learn to tweak and try things and remove players not contributing it’s over.

The Celtic midfield is mush , teams walk thru us. Even Ross County at home could have scored 2 or 3 just like Livi today.

The board left him short big time with a 3/10 transfer window. If we can’t win the next 5 domestic games they will drag it out to Christmas instead of replacing him. We are one defeat away from having the fans clamouring for a new manager. Ange needs to realise how serious it is for himself—- I don’t think he gets it.

  7. I said on Thursday, if we cannot turn around our form away from home, we will be winning nothing

Too many with their heads buried in the sand

What makes you believe Ange will turn this around ???

A manager with a success rate in previous clubs of 48%

Suppose he is doing better at 50%

    For me Anges balls burst

  8. The team we played today, went into the game with 1pt from15

They got their first win of the season

But we are seeing progress 😡😡😡

  9. Didn’t listen to Ange post match but if he’s publicly questioning the attitude of his players then we’re in even more trouble than I thought. Ange, you’re the one with questions to answer tonight.

  10. NORRIEM – not taking the bait with that one pal

Facts are facts – Pep G would struggle with the cards Ange has been dealt with.

Who lives in a world where success comes easy ?? who wants to? I’m convinced, given time and a few more good signings , Ange will get u playing the Celtic way again and winning titles.

  11. We had 80 % possession, yet only 5 attempts on target to their 4. One of our attempts was Turnbull’s frankly pathetic free kick in the first minute, where he softly lobbed it right into the keeper’s breadbasket, without him having to move. What really burns me is that when we take a free kick, it doesn’t even look like we are trying to score.

I have just watched Messi, in two successive games, thunder free kicks off the junction of bar and post. Now, I clearly do not expect any of our players to be Messi, but: 1. We do not attempt to thunder free kicks, a la Tommy Gemmell, and 2. Players do not orient their bodies and feet to try to bend the ball into a corner. We either blooter it over the bar, a la Christie, or meekly and uselessly lob it, with zero conviction, a la Turnbull. Naka practiced these for an hour after training. Do we even practice free kicks? It certainly doesn’t look like it.

    For me Anges balls burst

    ——

I don’t know whether it’s burst, or, not – what I do know is that no Celtic supporter can give a definitive opinion of him at this time. He has proved nothing either way. The rush to proclaim him and latch on to meaningless phrases like “Ange Ball”, embarrasses me.

What I do know is that his demeanour, over the last weeks, is not that of a man delighting in his work.

I will not judge him until the end of this season, or, whenever he leaves…whichever is sooner.

Finally the notion some have that any Celtic board have ever sat around wondering how to ensure *Rangers’ success is so ludicrous that one wonders what kind of mind can dream the stuff up.

The big two each represents 40% of Scottish football. To believe that without one the game could function at 60% of current levels, is fanciful to say the least.

  13. The one thing we can say for sure about Ange is that the honeymoon is over. He gets no more passes for days like today.

  14. JHB @ 9:43

Finally the notion some have that any Celtic board have ever sat around wondering how to ensure *Rangers’ success is so ludicrous that one wonders what kind of mind can dream the stuff up.

Two serious questions – 1. Do you have an explanation why, in 2012, the Celtic Board sat around and did absolutely nothing, knowing full well they had been cheated out of a League title and Champions League spot? Maybe not quite ‘wondering how to ensure *Rangers’ success’ but certainly tantamount to.

    2. Why have they done everything in their power to bury Res 12 and the pernicious 5 Way agreement? Both of these strategies favour Sevco, and no one is dreaming them up.

  15. Real Madrid, PSG and Man Utd. all win 2-1 today with goals in the last minute. Odd symmetry, and the mark of champions. PSG and the Galacticos will run away with theirs, but Chelski and the Scousers will run Man U close. Looking forward to seeing the Ronaldo – Van Dyck clash. Should be titanic.

  16. prestonpans bhoys on

Should Celtic get beat from a newly promoted team at over 70% possession no, should Celtic get beat from a team with 1 from 15 points, oh why bother….

  17. Every bit of criticism, including whatever Ange said about the players (I didn’t hear it), is completely justified today.

Even taking into account the plastic pitch, the injuries and rested players, the midweek Euro match abroad, and the inclusion of players just returning from injury and lengthy absence (MJ and Boli) we should not be as bad as we were today.

This was wholly different from the defeat at Betis, where we were aggresive going forward, or teh Ibrox match, where we competed well for 45 minutes. It was much much worse than our defeat in Midjtylland, Aalkmar and even Tynecastle because Ange was still building a team of late arrivals and soon to depart players then.

I never judge a new manager quickly. Anybody doing so, with lighthouse thinking, would have seen Jock Stein and Alex Ferguson sacked. Who sacks their manager this early in the season?- Diddy teams who do so to appease fans and who repeat the constant cycle of replacing Meh! with Meh!

Anybody with an eye to judge can see that Ange has got us playing with more energy and effort. It did not happen overnight, it took weeks to improve things and, even then, it took the energy of Kyogo, to set the tone for others to match.

But today, was the first time that the wheels have come off this newly built wagon. Today was the outlier performance so far. And it was a stinking extreme example of an outlier. I never thought I would see Celtic as slow and ponderous again undrr Ange. I saw examples like this under WGS and Tony Mowbray and Ronny and NFL and under Brendan, but this is the first I have seen since Ange got us moving, and it was as bad as any of those previous examples.

The test is whether he can drum this out of us as quickly as it appeared or whether there are still too many players scarred by last year, who will revert to safety first at the first signs of difficulty and a physical challenge.

I haven’t seen as inept a performance as James McCarthy’s today, since Rafael Scheidt “played” for us, and I was one who held hopes for a fellow Castlemilk bhoy. If he’s the kind of guy we need, and I still hold out hope, we should be hearing some strong words of self condemnation from him today. Abada made James Forrest look ubiquitous with a touchline hugging performance of inactive serenity worthy of a 7th Dan Bhuddist, but he is 19 years old and some inconsistency comes with his age and position. Nir Bitton has played a handful of good games in the 8 years where we have had him. I hope he was only kept on this year, like Leigh Griffiths, because Ange was short of time to replace him, Nir and Celtic need to part company sometime soon. David Turnbull has many good qualities – a midfielder with goals is worth a lot. he has an inventive scoop pass, he makes himself available to receive th ball and, despite today’s evidence, he has a very good shot on him. If we can reduce his tendency to pass back or carry the ball backward as his default option when he has his back to goal, he can still bridge the gap between very good Motherwell player and a decent Celtic player. Mikey Johnston, like Karamoko, is a Lennoxtown superstar, who impresses his caoches and fellow players as a big talent for the future. But both, especially Mikey, are running out of time and fan patience at Celtic to show that they can reproduce this in bread and butter SPFL games. I would be loath to lose their potential to other clubs but htis season is make or break for Mikey.

Before, I overstate the case, I will make one defence of the coaches. Though they messed up badly today, they have shown enough promise to persevere for much longer than the hurried 3 months they have had. I believe all of them will have found today unacceptable and will bust a gut to prevent it reappearing.

But, we are going to face outfits like St. Johnstone, Hibs and Dundee United, who have squads far more capable of hurting us than Livi. I don’t ask for guarantees that we will not drop points again- that would be stupid. But I think it is reasonable to ask the coaches not to sit on the subbing options for so long, during any repeat of these energy levels in a future game. It does not matter if the bench is uninspiring. When the starters are playing like that, the kids and the journeymen cannot be expected to be poorer.

Did I say that today was a huge disappointment?

  18. STEBHOY

A few more good signings like McCarthy? And who is going to scout them, then sign them? Nicholson? If Nicholson is such a good CEO, why wasn’t he appointed months ago? The structure of our Club is sadly deficient, in coaching, recruitment, sports science, on the medical side ( do we even have a team doctor? ).

Who allowed Taylor, who needed an operation, to start a game? Where is the review, promised in Lennon’s tenure? Where is Strachan’s report? Why is there no Director of Football? Who is Head of Recruitment? The Chuckles Brothers sat like two lumps of wood today, exactly the way they did on our last visit to Livi, contributing the square root of eff all. CelticTV is analog, in a digital age, and our ticketing system is primitive. It just looks as if we are flying by the seat of our pants, with zero direction or overall management, and Postecoglou sounded anything but convincing, post game.

I’m getting more and more disenchanted with the performance of the nodding dogs on our Board, led by a Chairman with no visible talents whatsoever, overseeing widespread ineptitude.

  19. The amount of times today that Gerry McCulloch spoke about our possession stats did my head in.

Livi just like the huns, allowed us to have the ball. That was their game plan.

Sideways and backwards possession means little.

Ange needs to figure this out and quick. Losing 4 from 8 really would be an absolute calamity and at the minute it looks a real possibility.

I’d hoped we’d win the league this season but that hope could very well go out the window two weeks from now up in Aberdeen.

  20. Every time I work myself into a ranting rage, it seems to be followed by a rational, well thought out, calm and level headed post by SFTB, the epitome of the Voice of Reason, and it calms the fevered brow and brings me back to earth.

    —–

You ask those questions and I don’t doubt your seriousness – I don’t have an answer to the questions as put, however let me deal with the surrounding issues as I see them.

Up until the police investigation and Administration kicked inl, no one had any idea what had been going on over the years at Ibrox. The events of the first-half of 2012 led to a series of serious consequences visited on the Ibrox club.

    * Four years in the lower leagues

    * Best players leaving with no transfer payments.

    * Out of Europe for five years

    * Placed in Liquidation

    * Ridiculed for £millions owed to Creditors

    * Run & ripped-off for years by a series of spivs.

All this was a consequence of their wrongdoing, not punishment. What good would it have done to Celtic’s reputation if they had then piled-in on top of this to claim their own ‘pound of flesh’?

If, at the start of the whole affair it was suggested that what eventually happened to Rangers be dealt out as a punishment, we would all have been 100% in favour.

With regard to Res12 & the ‘so-called’ 5 Way Agreement. There is much conjecture surrounding these things and they have become the chosen weapon of those who want to destroy the board and and shareholders.

What more could we have done to Rangers that they didn’t do to themselves? How would the football world viewed a Celtic intent on ‘putting the boot’ into another ‘great’ club and historic rival when it was down and at its weakest?

If Celtic had taken this course of action it would probably still be in the courts now. The SFA/SPL would be embroiled and who knows so may UEFA.

So let me ask – what possible advantage would Celtic have gained off the field of play and at what cost to our good name? – as it was we secured nine in a row and a quadruple treble on the park.

  22. Congrats to Bateen Bhoy (won today’s round) , ATOB, Majestic Hartson and Angel Gabriel on making big moves in the Superbru table today.

Top 3 overall are Hopeful Hoops, Big Archie and Marspapa.

Leggy has held off challenges from Park road 67 and Hutchybhoy to finish bottom but Kelvinbhoy gets this week’s wooden spoon for weakest results this round.

Let me ask one more thing – if someone who cheated and done you wrong is drowning in a large hole filled with sh**, why on earth would you jump in just to deliver a punch on the nose?

  24. From the Celtic Star site, on James Forrest’s importance to Celtic:-

    Win record WITH Jamesy: 89%…

-In his last 70 games, Celtic have won 59 and scored 154 goals, with Jamesy scored 24 and claiming 29 assists in that time.

    However…

    -Win record WITHOUT Jamesy: 53%…

-In the last 70 games he has missed, Celtic have won just 37 and scored 79 goals…

    And it doesn’t stop there!

-This season alone, Celtic have won just 2 of the 8 games he has missed, scoring 14 goals in the process.

-Yet, in the 6 games he HAS played, Celtic have won 5, lost 1 and scored 20 goals.

-Jamesy has scored 2 and assisted 5 in those games.

Perhaps we should start showing more respect to one of Celtic’s most unsung heroes…

  25. sftb

When I heard Forrest was coming on today I thought, that should improve things…..

    It did….for Livingstone

With due respect, I think you are barking up the wrong tree.

You are correct to say that what happened to the Huns was consequences, not punishment. The MSM have attempted ever since to portray them as victims.

As I understand it, the Requisitioners have couched it in terms of Governance and specifically fought against this being portrayed as a OF issue, in order to avoid the charge you make about “what kind of rivals would we have been”.

I’ll tell you “what kind of rivals would we have been”. Rivals wanting our just desserts. We were denied access to £20-30m Champions League Money. Shareholders were denied potential returns on their investments.

But we put the matter in the hands of the governing bodies and the support hoped, if not believed, that The Sharp Suited Man being the Smartest Man in the Room would do the business.

You have to hope he has a good reason for not doing so. From his major shareholder’s perspective he has in terms of keeping the OF business plan alive.

So let me ask – what possible advantage would Celtic have gained off the field of play and at what cost to our good name?

    ——

The new club have been emboldened by everything that’s gone on and we are the ones suffering.

Good honest Celtic people can stomach no more of this and many are walking away.

The advantage we would have gained was the certainty that our custodians had acted in the sporting interest of the club and upheld our perceived view of the integrity of its history, as opposed to protecting a flawed business model in the interests of themselves and a plainly immoral business partner.

The Huns know this and know they can pursue their financially reckless path in the knowledge if they go bust, they cause everyone else to take another hit.

    Auldheid calls it Moral Hazard.

We are absolutely compromised here and there is now no easy or painless solution for Celtic.

If we had had got involved as some argue – Celtic would have become part of a humiliating narrative. There is an old saying in politics – ” when your opponent is making a fool of themselves – don’t interupt”

Celtic’s custodians ensured that nowhere in this debacle could the Celtic name be mentioned.

There are many barrack-room lawyers who have allowed this to take over their lives for almost ten years – thank God they were not in charge of Celtic during that time.

“Stop The World I Want To Get Off” was a successful London West End musical – not a script for running a football club.

“You ask those questions and I don’t doubt your seriousness – I don’t have an answer to the questions as put.”

Respectfully, I really wish you had stopped right there!

You have touched on a huge topic, and I really don’t want to get into the weeds, but I must correct two, hopefully unintended, errors.

“Up until the police investigation and Administration kicked inl, no one had any idea what had been going on over the years at Ibrox.”

I’m sorry, but that is incorrect. The Board was very aware of the side contracts enabling Rangers to sign very many players they could manifestly not afford.

“With regard to Res12 & the ‘so-called’ 5 Way Agreement. There is much conjecture surrounding these things and they have become the chosen weapon of those who want to destroy the board and and shareholders.”

Again, I’m sorry, but the last part of this is utter nonsense. The flagbearers for Res 12 are all shareholders. They are not on a suicide mission. Lawwell patently lied to them at an AGM, for which he should be struck off as a Director. The Board neglected their fiduciary responsibility to shareholders by not challenging the cheating by their main competitor, and the financial losses incurred by losing out on a Champions League place. I grant you that they could not have foreseen everything that befell Sevco since 2012, but that does not remotely justify their complicity in persistent cheating and rule skirting.
