Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

Yip, the tone was all wrong, you just don’t threaten those who can destroy you, even a half wit knows that , as you say, sad that it’s come down to this.

  2. Stringer Bell on

Just read that statement from the green brigade. Good God. They have an unrealistic sense of their own worth and place in the firmament of Celtic fans.

That will be them finished I imagine. The can take their undiluted politics to a different arena and good luck to them. I will admire their principals when they do this.

Another group will probably emerge to take their place. The wheel keeps turning and Celtic will prosper without them.

  3. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

Well there’s a club in Glasgow with a violent, bigoted support that should be hammered.

    Guess who.

    Die firmly cast I’m afraid.

    This won’t go away.

    Bottom line is….

For as long as, there are, 53,000 season tickets sold at Celtic Park, and the club is custodially governed by a PLC board which, in the main is, populated by, out of touch, millionaires and, billionaires, well, Celtic FC and its world wide supporter base, will never know, peace or, justice.

    Its as simple as that.

Back of the bus rebels, will never know – justice.

53,000 Celtic supporters know that, Scottish football is bent.

And yet, a worrying amount of that 53,000 think that, Celtic FC is run by snowmen.

    So, so sad.

When will the penny drop ?

Will the penny, ever drop ?

Ah mean, how many of the, crowd funders of the “statement” in the Sunday Herald, paid 49 quid to watch this, apparently, new club ?

    Dear, dear, dear……

    …..off-oot.

  5. I dont really care what the handwringers say,the charge sheet against our oppressors are,

Singing sectarian songs for 90 minutes

Singing Racist songs against one of our players for 90 minutes

Throwing objects at one of our players, with sectarian comments,

Throwing bottles at one of our players with sectarian comments,

Charging the field to attack one of our players,

Riot police to be positioned to assure the safety of our players,

Just what fekin game was the UEFA observer at.He managed to spy the Celtic bibs, but missed the rest.

Celtic roll over and take these ridiculous charges up the jacksy, leaving us one striker for the most important game of our season.I really fekin despair.A Hun riddled Org dictating our downfall, and we let it.

Grow a pair,FFS,take them the full road.A Mr Bosman did it quite successfully when they said he could not.

    Disgusted with our Board,

    ANGRY FROM TURKEY.

  6. TURKEYBHOY@5-06PM

I thought they had a shape and tactics.

A bank of 5 and 4 defensively and the old classic hoof and hope in attack.

They struggled to defend flanks so used the old pack and grab system.

They don’t mind putting the boot in and Thomson seemed to like that.

Diving for free kicks also seemed to have been worked on.

  9. Greenwells Glory on

Hi Ghuys, Salve salve ;- Not posted for a long time just a wee comment to make. If rumours of Brendan Rodgers’ displeasure are true then unless this is addressed you are faced with the possibility of losing the best manager the club is likely to have in our time. Probably the most committed too.

BTW GB statement akin to lighting a flare under the Celtic kilt.

Going to have a beer now. Do try and get along.

    Greenwells.

  10. This from official Celtic statement yesterday

“There is no room for debate. The safety authorities and the football authorities make the rules. They also enforce the rules. If the rules are broken, Celtic will be punished again and again. There is no hiding place from these realities.”

So, Peter, if we all agree on rules being followed, the authorities acting and enforcing, just where the he’ll have the PLC, the SPFL, and the SFA been since the scandal of a certain liquidation happening where no meaningful punishment has yet to be handed out?

Didn’t agree with one of Wednesday’s banners ( the man in the specs), didn’t understand what the other two were about other than thinking one was similar to a past Celtic View cover.

From where we were in 416 both my son and I commented on the ridiculous number of police and stewards around the standing area with my boy suggesting fans could be blocked by them, not fans.

Net is I thing the PLC are over reacting by closing the entire section down for two matches. Just how will things improve in match three? If my ST was for that area and I was not a GB member I’d be furious with the club. If action had to be taken the club should have had the balls to cancel completely and permanently the season tickets of all known GB members and moved on.

I look forward to the club being ensuring that ALL other clubs as well as us follow rules or are punished where this doesn’t happen.

  11. …..off-oot.

    Big Jimmy

You may have missed it but CFC have already made a statement on the EBT verdict. In fact they are the only club who have.

Tony,I am not an enemy of yours, sometimes I will argue your point, but if you believe the Celtic Board are about to issue a statement,or will issue a statement, notwithstanding the statement they have already made on the Scum fiasco, then ,mate,I am sorry,I really am,I would love it,but I cant see it.

    With you in hope.

  12. Maybe if our suits had been a tad more proactive in pointing out to the uefa observer that the Linfield support actually had a UVF banner the other night, they maybes wouldn’t have been so quick to charge us with displaying a banner, just maybes like.

It stands to reason that if you care about the reputation of the club you will do just about anything to protect it, seems to me that….well you can make your own mind up as to why the club say feck all.

  13. So according to the GB the board set up the issues on the stairwells and are blaming the GB. It’s becoming increasingly clear how far the board will go to remove questioning and opposition. The are colluding with those who hate us and lying to us on a regular basis.

But like I said yesterday. Fair play to them. They planned this to split the Celtic support and it’s worked. Now the SPFL will get their announcement out and THe board will go into hiding and hope to ride it out as we all fight with each other.

And the cheats and corrupt will prosper, emboldened by getting away with it all.

And lawwell will get lots of extra bonuses. He might even get an honour from the queen for services to racism.

And paul67 will tell us stories about the Huns going bust and all sorts of nonsense, whilst dining out with our enemies.

    Betrayed to the very last.

You know people go on about the GB,and I really do understand that, but this shower of shit can do want they want and we just bow down and say,”How far”.

  21. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Jimmic,

The rules don’t apply to the hierarchy, double standards are observed and this witch hunt in cooperation with the police and footballing authorities betrays the strategy and motives of a corrupt organisation trying its level best to blame everyone but their own incompetence and hypocracy. I’m seriously considering a new resolution, a vote of no confidence in this board.

    Hoisted by their own petard.

  22. Hi Bhoys

Read the GB statement and I think they have shot themselves in the foot here.

There appeared to be quite an even split in the posts I have read on here regards Wednesday’s game and who is right and wrong.

After reading it I am now firmly of the belief that there will be a big swing of opinion towards what the board have done.

I’m not talking about all the other issues in our game at the moment just the banners and the closing of a section in the stadium.

I believe that the Celtic support generally support the underdog and so TGB were being cut some slack. But I know for a fact the Celtic support don’t like anyone who gets to big for their boots so as I said maybe TGB have shot themselves in the foot here.

I thought TD67’s posts were really going over the top but now I see his point clearly so well said TD67.

Regards the board if they keep our house in order when issues are raised against OUR club, that gives them plenty of scope to go on the attack at the appropriate time, regarding all other outstanding issues.

I really hope they don’t let us down in this regard. So for the moment I’ll cut them the slack I was reluctant to give them.

    KEEP THE FAITH

  23. Incredible statement by the GB.

The same board they have attacked agreed to give them their own section, they get the standing section and the board turn a blind eye to many things.

We live in a country with laws. Abide by them or face the punishment. Or try to change them.

Uefa are indeed corrupt but they also run the game. They also have rules.

The board accommodate the GB big time and people dont expect them to change their politics but like the fascists why do they need everybody to know their views.

I doubt there is a way back after this statement because the GB will boo the Champions league song and i am sure make other statements.

Personally i wouldnt miss them as i am a Celtic supporter and have been a long time before they came along.

They can have a place but they think they are the fans.

Humility is much more attractive a quality.
