Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

* What now for the Green Brigade?
* Dedryck Boyata – Are reinforcements on route?
* Virgil van Dijk – The windfall cometh;
* Emilio Izaguirre – Moving on.

who would go to celtic park and endanger people – flares are dangerous – smoke inhalation, oxidants, promote burning – why not just go there and feel the love – self regulate gb ffs

    Praecepta,

Disagree with you on it being a squirrel, though the fear of introducing HSE involvement does create a lot of obfuscation. As I said, it’s easily tested by a couple of qualified punters making a report. Simply calling it a squirrel without testing it is exactly what they want. I might also point out that the link you provided provided very ambiguous information that did not clearly support your claim.

  12. Are there any university graduates/undergraduates who could explain the difference between a flare and a smoke bomb?

  13. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

The Plc created the Green Brigade for exactly this kind of situation, I mean they are calling it green brigade section ffs, there’s 80 people in the green brigade in a section of 900 less then 10%. There’s a load of people all at sea on this issue that should be lighting flares for assistance with thinking.

    RELEASE THE FLARE SQUIRREL!

And off he went, two months barrelling around in his cage forgotten as he raced towards the top of the distraction tree trailing green and white smoke (ironically) and garnished with all manner of shiny trinkets from the great Liewell’s treasure horde.

‘Look, lookit the shiny-shiny,’ cooed the masses, heads turning from the lumbering monstrosity creeping out of the swamp, its pustules spitting forth hate and slurs and venom, its great cacophony of abuse and rattling insanity lost to the enchanted crowd as it dragged its putrid sack of rotting titles past the grasp of the idle title-stripping machine.

A few in the crowd saw the Great Beast and made to alert their fellows but a cry from their midst snapped that intent,

“No! Stop ye! Lest offence be magnfied by our latent deference!”

And they looked and saw the cheeky artist drawing on his bedsheet a naughty picture and they subdued their own sense of proportion and did holler an castigate him for possible offence he might cause to those in thrall to the Great Beast.

And the Great gurgling Beast lumbered on, breathless and cancerous yet afforded extended life by the benevolence of Liewell and the Thatched Northern Acquiescer.

And at the last, the frustrated crowd turned upon their own, cannibalising one in a fit of self-loathing as he attempted, confused, to set fire to his 70’s retro trousers.

    So it goes.

I have pasted part of your post at 11.50 below.

Just for clarification for myself does this mean as a paying supporter at Celtic Park if I complain to HSE about the vandalism by the orcs at our home games, they would have to investigate it and possibly uphold my complaint and force Celtic into barring them from the stadium?

    HOW GOOD WOULD THAT BE

“Being a professional H&S they are legally obliged to report incidents and near misses as well as people who are displaying a disregard for the safety and health of those they are responsible to be protecting. So it would only take a couple of our own HSE qualified supporter to make an official report about an injury or questioning the ability/qualifications of a party responsible to ensure H&S is being properly applied. Such a report would need to be investigated by the HSE.”

  27. Overall, I think the GB’s contribution has been overwhelming positive. I have sympathy with the Club too, they had to act. Shame both parties are at loggerheads yet again, perhaps, rather depressingly, the both cannot coexist. I hope not and an agreed approach between the two can be found.

Perhaps I am ignorant but I didn’t really get Wednesday’s banners and displays. After the Palestine crowd funding to match the fine and the horseman of the apocalypse, I think it was quite poor by comparison. I didn’t really understand the message. Was it an expression of support of the unification or Ireland? If so, does this always have to have a paramilitary aspect to it? Was it simply to wind up our scumbag visitors? I would like to think not, too many innocent people on both sides of the divide lost their lives and loved ones for it to be trivialised in such a manner.

For the record anyone, especially any Celtic fans, who think we are anywhere near the level of the Linfield fans needs their head examined. Massive own goal on that, if we had kept whiter than white on Wednesday, the media would have had no choice than to highlight was a bunch neanderthals they were. Instead, we gave them a stick to beat us with and deflect from the worse perpetrators in the whole affair.

Is it getting blown out of proportion? – Yes, its banners.

Did the club have to act? – Persistent nature of it and profile means Yes.

Is Uefa a self servicing corrupt organisation? – Yes

Do we love playing in their competitions and those nights under the lights – Yes

Would we all rather be talking about Stuart Armstrong signing a new contract and Paddy coming home – Yes!!!

Love the GB and think it is a shame they are once again at logger heads with the club yet again
