Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

Is McKenzie the type of legal brain to be relied upon should the proverbial hit the fan, or is his arse well covered answering only what he is asked?

You would need some bale of cloth to cover that @rse.

  2. Sad, sad days indeed if, on Wednesday, the SPFL whitewash anticipated comes to pass and the Huns are “officially” told their titles are safe.

Makes me think our third strip should have been either yellow to match CFC PLCs’ cowardice or white as a tribute to our Surrender.

Who plays striker tomorrow night if Dembele is injured?

I would imagine the front 3 to be,Hayes,Sinclair,Forrest.Plenty of pace with those 3.

    Twists,

it is always possible to hold officers of an organisation to account but I think it would be a far more onerous task, with a different approach and mindset to the one which calls for a review.

A review should throw open all the doors and allow for all the facts to be revealed and examined. It might result in someone being censured or criticised and at that time any further action could be considered if appropriate.

However, an association which has a reputation for the members suing its executive is not likely to attract the best candidates for executive positions in the future — and before anyone points it out I can hear people saying “Gordon Smith?” “Stuart Regan?” “Best Candidates? You are having a laugh!”

By the way, when Gordon Smith was appointed I am told that the other person in the running was Dougie Donnelly!

Would like a comment from Lennoxtown about Jozo being fully fit and burstin’ to play on Wednesday. He seemed to me to be going through the motions during the second half last week, after taking that elbow dunt earlier. Noticed it was strictly tap corners as well, keeping him out of penalty box clashes.

Steeling myself against a Mikael, Erik combo.

    C’mon the Celts.

With Johnny Hayes coming in we have options of any 2 from 3 (Sinclair, Forrest or Hayes) wide and the other one through the middle. The benefit is that it could become a very fluid system where all 3 interchange positions across the front.

With Rogic and Ntcham in behind and either Armstrong or McGregor breaking forward from deeper, we will have pace, strength and movement from an attacking 6.

I’d prefer Dembele, but without him or Griffiths, we still have an abundance of attacking options that will put Rosenberg to the sword.

I fully expect the tie to be finished tomorrow night!

‘simple son they’re cheats, and they know we know they’re cheats’

now that was 50+ years ago, so nothing has changed cheats then, cheats, now, cheats forever!!!

  10. Third kit, again Celtic and New Balance, fleecing the supporters again, money, money ,money, and eat all the food in the outlets, that are overpriced, and not the best, but if you pay bottom dollar,we will give you first class service, and Dembele ,will definitely go,and Brendan, won’t be far behind him,so if there is going to be boycotts, which I’m not in favour of,then start with getting rid of quite a few on the Celtic Board,I’m sure there are good Celtic Supporters out there ,who could do a good job running Celtic.

Just one thing about the GB not being their tomorrow night. The players will be able to hear every scream of abuse from the halfwits in the crowd, when a pass goes astray,or the usual boo boys picking on their usual targets.

No wonder they all love the GB.

“Like you, I first visited Paradise over 50 years ago and have been hooked ever since. I also realised from the late 60’s/early 70’s that the game was dishonest in Scotland. As I got older, I realised that it was always so as far as Celtic were concerned. We knew it then, we know it now. The difference? The internet and social media.”

    **************

The major difference is we now have proof of that dishonesty, which makes it much easier to complain about, act on. As I remember it, you were one of the posters who encouraged others to hold off with their complaints about inaction from Celtic until after the SC final decision on EBTs, even though Rangers had already admitted to wrongdoing years ago with DoS and side-letters for 5 players.

You just didn’t want anything to rain on your ‘great time to be a Celtic supporter’ parade.

And, here you are, saying no matter the extent or continuation of cheating, no matter the disregard for sporting integrity, you’re changing nothing about what you do.

Thank God your attitude didn’t prevail in 2012, as we got at least 4 years peace from them.

I understand that sentiment, my old man used to say the same. But I disagree and here is why.

This will be the best ever chance that any football fan in Scotland will ever have to take proper, informed legal or other action which drives a coach and horses through the “cheating” mentality.

Do you honestly think SDM and his cohorts didn’t weigh up the consequences of them being caught cheating?

Murray was a fool in terms of the financial consequences and he got that badly wrong, but his mental mantra at the outset was that “Rangers” are too big and too important to fail or be really held to account.

That is why it is essential that the SFA/SPFL are all held to account re this debacle because at the outset the whole of Scottish Football was of the same view — The Mighty Rangers are too big, too important, too untouchable to be really held to account.

Well, do you know what? That is wrong — completely and utterly wrong.

Football supporters from all clubs, but especially ours, are better educated than 50 years ago. They have access to more information, they are involved in business (including sports businesses) and other areas of commerce where they can have a far more effective say in how the game is run from top to bottom.

The idea that thousands stand in the jungle and “know” they are being cheated is no longer tolerable and we should not simply accept that cheating has always happened and always will happen.

The authority and management of the SFA/SPFL should be challenged and there should be constant evolution and reform of management practices and procedures.

In this case, take the lead from other sports whose rules and regulations are being enforced without fear or favour and from those legal judgements and proceedings which spell out in plain English what should happen to preserve sporting integrity and fairness of play.

Remember that it is only 5 years ago when we had a serious SMSM debate about how Sporting Integrity would simply have to be jettisoned in favour of financial survival.

Yes, that was a real debate. A real point of view, held by so called serious people in the game.

Cheating could be allowed if it was shown that it would cost too much money to actually point it out and take action against it.

This is the time and these are the circumstances to actually change Scottish Football and to bring an end to that menatility whereby we know they cheated and they know they can get away with it.

The one that struck me was the banner displayed at one of the Hun games.

“They Hung Out A Flag Of War”,banner. Now,there is no way on Gods earth, that this banner could have been smuggled in to a game.It must have been,60 by 30 foot.Did Celtic OK this banner?.How was it brought into the stadium?.

    Just a thought.
