What were the odds of Bobby Madden being appointed referee for our Scottish Cup semi-final against Newco? Fairly short, I would imagine. All we want from Bobby is a fair crack of the whip. When a Newco player lunges with both feet off the ground at Patrick Roberts, we don’t expect him to be distracted by checking his watch. When Leigh Griffiths is taken down, waist high, inside the box, before his opponent can get near the ball, we expect a penalty.
Such expectations were not on the coupon previously but are not too much to ask.

No comment from me on what is deserved, but here are the facts.
At the end of the 2016/17 season, we had 106 goals and a goal difference of 81. At the end of 2015/16, it was 93 goals and a difference of 62. For 2014/15, it was 84 goals and a difference of 67. Today, we sit at 32 games out of 38, 62 goals and a difference of 42.
Despite the absences of Dembele and Griffiths, our misplaced conservative approach at home against the bottom teams in the league has led directly to far fewer goals, turgid performances, and persistent ennui for major segments of the season.
