Managerial talent

1363

Derek Adams propensity to waste time and then complain about time being added on should not obscure the fact that he is a remarkably productive football manager.  Ross County, from Dingwall, population 5,000, are sitting fourth in the SPL and remain in touching distance of a place in Europe.  No need to highlight their Scottish Cup campaign in 2010.

It is, therefore, no surprise that Aberdeen have asked Ross County for permission to speak to him.  On the face of it, Aberdeen should fancy their chances of recruiting Adams but County are confident for a reason.  SPL, and in Owen Coyle’s case First Division, managers have been recruited by well-paying English clubs at levels the likes of Aberdeen cannot compete with.  County chairman, Roy McGregor, is likely to advise Adams to hold off for a more lucrative move south.

When Jimmy Calderwood left Dunfermline for Aberdeen in 2004 chairmen John Yorkston explained his surprise at Calderwood heading north, explaining that he believed one day Calderwood would move to Ibrox.  Aberdeen proved to be a plateau for Calderwood, as it has been for most over the last couple of decades.

If they don’t get Adams chances are they will go back to Motherwell; back-to-back second place finishes are exactly what is needed at Pittodrie right now.

Best of luck to Gordon Strachan on his first competitive game as Scotland manager tonight.

Once upon a time you dressed so fine

You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn’t you?

People’d call, say, “Beware doll, you’re bound to fall”

You thought they were all kiddin’ you

    You used to laugh about

    Everybody that was hangin’ out

Now you don’t talk so loud

Now you don’t seem so proud

About having to be scrounging for your next meal.

    How does it feel

    How does it feel

    To be without a home

    Like a complete unknown

    Like a rolling stone?

You’ve gone to the finest school all right, Miss Lonely

But you know you only used to get juiced in it

And nobody has ever taught you how to live on the street

And now you find out you’re gonna have to get used to it

    You said you’d never compromise

With the mystery tramp, but know you realize

    He’s not selling any alibis

As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes

And say do you want to make a deal?

    Like a rolling stone?

You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns

When they all come down and did tricks for you

You never understood that it ain’t no good

You shouldn’t let other people get your kicks for you

You used to ride on the chrome horse with your diplomat

Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat

Ain’t it hard when you discover that

He really wasn’t where it’s at

After he took from you everything he could steal.

it’s nice to see the more religious fundamentalists on a cfc fan forum fall in favour with the line that “scotland says NO!” in september 2014

not that i would say they had anything in common with some other famous fundamentalists living in some nearby country

The point hasn’t been lost on me. But thank you for giving me a laugh out loud moment. :D

It’s sad to see though that some people are so preoccupied with religion that they’ll flat out lie to damage reputations.

I think it’s best summed up with a Disposable Heroes of Hiphiprisy lyric (song is Television The Drug Of The Nation) –

It’s the perpetuation of the two party system

Where image takes precedence over wisdom

Where sound bite politics are served to

    The fastfood culture

Where straight teeth in your mouth

Are more important than the words

my favourite of that kind was the simpsons episode where the two aliens abducted bob dole and bill clinton,. Initially the two aliens in their guises compliment each other’s policies but its only homer who suspects malpractice. the day before the election, their cover’s blown and a voter at the back shouts “let’s all get behind a 3rd candidate” to which both aliens chant “hehehe, go on, throw your vote away” immediately tapping into voter apathy and cynicism.

SNP disintegrated into fractions of left and right party discipline collapsed and by start of 2nd world war had ceased to be a coherent force

Clear winners in troubled years were the unionists who enjoyed undisputed supremacy in Scotland politics until 1945 in part because of the fracturing of the Labour and nationalist opponents

Unionists worked hard to consolidate their hegemony, Labour was portrayed as a party of revolutionaries who would threaten savings, pensions and investments with programmes of nationalisation ( Labour ditched all its revolutionaries and became new labour)

The Simpsons and Family Guy have been a constant source of acerbic political comment over the years. To manage it with humour too is an excellent skill. I think also that it’s getting through, at least to an extent – the whole “we are the 99%” demonstrated that. Will it ever get into the mainstream? I hope so.

Anyway, I’m off to bed. Need my beauty sleep. :D

Ive watched it three times now, a sheer magical night. Every single second of it is 100% Celtic magic and concentration and intensity both on and off the park, the whole game is quite moving.

Probably the most romantic game ever played, we beat the greatest team in history on outr 125th Birthday, it was written in the stars.
