Many will live the rest fo their days only seeing Celtic win the league

963

I’ve said for a while that very few people realise the enormity of what happened in Scottish football in 2012. Some thought there would be a three-year blip before ‘normality’ was restored. Until very recently prevailing perception is that the current ‘abnormal’ circumstances may last 10 years. The old normal isn’t coming back.

When I talked about how few people realised the permanent consequences of Rangers liquidation on the Scottish football to my brother, he was of the view that the penny wouldn’t drop until Newco were in their second season in the Premiership.

They had all the excuses in the world when they were in the lower leagues, and a genuinely good excuse during their first season in the top flight, but when things don’t improve in the second season, a retrenchment will start.

By then it will be evident that the legendary gap below Celtic is huge, that Newco are effectively cannon fodder, that their fans are a cash cow topping up the coffers of every club they visit (including Celtic), but that no matter what they pay for their season tickets, Newco will always be underfunded.

Season ticket sales at current levels are not sustainable to watch a team fail so miserably. Even this miserable team is not sustainable with the current business model. The retrenchment will be real and painful. Questions are now being asked about how they get themselves out of this mess (16 years too late). There will be no answer.

They will win the odd game against Celtic, and pick up a cup occasionally (if Ross County can do it anyone can), but Newco will only win the league if Celtic get their big move. Many football fans in Scotland will live the rest of their lives only seeing Celtic win the league. Just think of that for a moment.  Buying your losers ticket each season will be a painful business.  Some will find other things to occupy themselves with.

The real question that should be asked, is how sustainable is a Rangers club that’s as much chance of winning the title as St Johnstone? The answer will be evident by this time next season.

  1. Firstly RIP the Green Oak and thoughts and prayers with his family and friends.

Secondly, Auldheid I read both BRT&H and your post last night with great interest. I agree the club have finally stepped up and paid focus and attention to what is and should always be their main concern at the PLC – the football product. Without a decent product the clients will rebel. The nature of business. I’m speaking in their terms as they I believe do not speak in any other unless their need to is great in order to re-entice and incentivise their client base.

Whatever the reasons for their change in focus I am just happy they felt there was a requirement to do so and they did.

I do not however trust that they will follow that up with the severe booting in the baws required to be given to the SFA the Huns and all their pals no matter the outcome of any current or future legal process.

I hope one day to eat these words and have to apologise to them for this distrust though.

  3. It strikes me that we are becoming just like the Huns.

The arrogance is pretty horrible and getting worse.

To make matters worse there is an acceptance that it’s ok for the board to cheat the support. Greenpinta said

“We will eventually downsize again to creat competition and our crowds will eventually drop off. Our ambition will be strangled, and it’s no fault of our making.”

Really? Some strategy eh! At least greenpinta you are admitting it happened. All Paul wants to do is talk about the Huns and refuse to tackle important issues like res 12.

Celtic quick news is the epitomy of lazy, succulent lamb, journalism.

  4. Watching the BT Sport game – Scottish Fitba

Perhaps the negative issues associated with being the only fish in a small pond will kick in eventually , but I would venture suggest that most of us can learn to cope with that possible / probable scenario for at least a few years .

Assuming that Celtic domination comes to pass ( and that is not certain ) , we will have guaranteed access every year to the C.L.

That is what will fuel the interest of our supporters . Not the SFA`s Mickey Mouse teacup trophies.

The plans for ground expansions at Hearts and Aberdeen strongly suggests that they are far from throwing in the towel. Good.

Like you , I want Celtic to be where we should be .

With the elites of world football.

Achieving that is difficult , but I am hugely encouraged by our current situation and extremely optimistic that our Board have demonstrated their ambition to be where we should be.

    Where we must be.

    The nettle has been grasped.

Whatever comes to pass , I am supremely optimistic that all of us Tims have much success and fun ( hee hee ) to look forward to.

    Hail Hail Green Pineapple.

Im inclined to think we shouldnt touch Henry Onyekuru with a bargepole after his disappearing act.

Can anyone else see him doing the same to us if one of Englands elite come calling?

Maybe hes just a kid and it all got a bit much for him, or he was getting bad advice but it makes me wonder whether we could end up being in a similar situation ourselves one day if he ever gets to wear The Hoops.

I think the boy was quite right. He was being railroaded into a move to Russia which he did not want. Some of these agents, and managers ,with the old “Brown envelope”passed about are like human traffickers.

Stuck to his guns, said GTF,I want to go to Celtic.Hopefully,we get the kid in the summer.

  9. Macjay the only thing that Paul is feeding us at the moment is Hun nonsense and puff pieces that may as well say ” Peter how come you are so good”.

Paul is hopelessly compromised and unwilling to proffer any criticism of a board which has systematically attacked it’s own supporters and continues to prop up cheating and corruption. Res 12 is now it seems buried. Paul refuses to say anything about that.

    It’s incredibly unhealthy.

So far from feeding us he is simply trying to distract us.

If that said if the board did get a big bid from dembele and refused it then perhaps Brendan has some power yet. How long that lasts in the face of lawwell desire for extra bonuses remains to be seen.

But the growing arrogance of Paul and the board is horrible and will lead to complacency greed and decline. With this board still in place we will ever limit any sense of ambition.

  10. Turkeybhoy. Now watch that blood pressure. Your cloth cap is getting a bit frayed at the edges. All anger and sycophancy as ever.

  11. I really admire Chris, the evil genius, Sutton, he is clued into Every club and how the players have played.

  12. *** GOALS FOR SHAY ***

    Good afternoon all

With only 2 picks still to come in (aye, you Sipsini and Smashing Milk Bottles!) I can let you know where most of the Week 4 choices have gone. Almost half of the entrants have concentrated on, as Phil Neville calls them, Manchesity. Personally I’m looking for a Pittodrie goal rout. I managed to get 4 points last week and still dropped from 109th to 110th! Of course, I still have 2 jokers to use….

This week also sees the widest spread of choices so far with 12 different teams selected, even including you know who. And not a single choice for The Bhoys (yet) although not really surprised as I’m expecting tomorrow’s game to be a very close, tight encounter (not that I do forecasts…….)

The selections are below. And remember, it’s all about goals – you don’t need your chosen team to win.

This week there are just 5 jokers being played.

    Good luck to all.

Off to watch Hearts close gap to 5 points….

    Hull v Liverpool [9]

    Southampton [2] v West Ham

    Watford v Burnley

    West Brom v Stoke

    Tottenham [18] v Middlesbrough (17.30)

    Sunday 5 February

    St Johnstone v Celtic (12.30)

    Manchester City [53] v Swansea (13.30)

    Leicester v Manchester Utd [5] (16.00)

  13. Neganon2,

I have to agree with you, we don’t need more articles about Sevco / Rangers when we have outstanding issues of our own.

Absolutely no disrespect intended to Paul 67 or his helpers. But it’s all part of the enormity of Scottish football 2012 that Paul 67 asks us to realise.

We must never fiddle while Rome burns.

    HH.

  14. NegAnon2 – Perhaps our owners and board members have now, finally, set their sights on something much loftier than domestic dominance. I cannot see PL or DD attempting to clip BR’s wings any time soon. On the contrary, perhaps we are seeing the start of a Ferguson-like dynasty. Why not?

“All men make mistakes, but a good man yields when he knows his course is wrong, and repairs the evil. The only crime is pride.”

    ― Sophocles, Antigone

  15. HH Greenpinta. I would love us all to be united and in this together but it isn’t possible while all these important matters aren’t tackled.

In Brendan we have someone who is acting as a counterweight to lawwell. Let’s hope he is around for a long time. It certainly puts the appointment of poor Ronny into sharp relief.

  16. Getting ready to go to Port Vale – should be interesting as we sold Peterborough arguably our most consistent player – also hopefully Fasan will get a game.

LOL at that, when every post he makes drips of hate for Paul, Peter Lawwell, and reeks of ‘we deserve better’.

    Yer mirrors stopped working?

  18. Deniabhoy we can but hope. I do wonder at the tensions behind the scenes at CP. Brendan has told us he didn’t get what he wanted in the transfer window. I suspect he is giving us the message and heaping pressure on lawwell and his so called strategy.

Right now Brendan has the power. The board know the support don’t trust them (despite Pauls puff pieces). If they piss of Brendan we will support Brendan. They are actually in a weak position now.

Expect more pieces on the Huns as Paul looks to detract from all this. The tension in the summer will be palpable.

    O.k.

Paul provides us with this amazing opportunity to exchange views.

Surely you can tone down your personal criticism.

Paul speaks from the heart and so do you.

You do understand how insulting that is ?

    Good night , all.

  20. Sandman I noticed you advocating selling dembele and spending half of the so called 40m and keeping the other half? What were we supposed to keep it for? Do you have an RBS or Lloyds scarf at home?
