Livingston manager David Martindale is one of those people opposition fans find it easy to parody. When he claimed to have ‘pound-for-pound’ the best team in the league, one online wit called him the best ‘gram-for-gram’ manager. Many of us were grateful when life offered a second (or subsequent) chance, what matters now is that David is an example of what can be, if you make the right decisions.
Admirable, as he undoubtedly is, I don’t like his football, or the pitch it is played on every second game. Livingston would have the game banned, if that was all we could watch. Still, though, what’s he to do?
Tomorrow a group of international footballers, many with Champions League and World Cup experience behind them, arrive at the Plastic Pasta Stadium to face a squad of players who would rather be anywhere else in the football food chain. We have no right to ask them to play any different than how they will.
Martindale knows how to get results. The current FA Premier Manager of the Month left the corresponding fixture at Livi empty handed two years ago. His side were as tight as a drum at the back and waited for an opportunity to present itself. A bounce of the plastic was enough to deceive Stephen Welsh.
It is incredible how momentum builds and falls in football. Brendan Rodgers knows enough about the game to put Tuesday’s result behind him and do whatever necessary to inject confidence and energy into his side. After going out of the League Cup on our only other game on plastic this season, you could suggest it is imperative to show we learned to better prepare for the surface.
While we are in a generous mood to others, imagine a mid-table Premiership side winning in Europe last night! Second bottom of the table almost took a point in Germany too.

Good one, I had a wee chuckle myself to that one 🤭
I hear Lawwell definitely got the Res 12 email but regrettably his dog ate it before he got the chance to read it.
Good evening
Before the big game tomorrow, can I ask…
Is it wrong to start listening to Jazz before your 60 , I’m fifty nine and three quarters and have started finding myself listening to Jazz FM….
Do I need to seek therapy ?
ERATIC
You were probably led astray by jazz funk , leading on to the hard stuff , so you’re forgiven 😁😜

“If only we had forced the SFA/SPFL to apply the rules and only enter a team with 3 years accounts”
Quadbhoy – respectfully, forced them how?
It’s like deja vu all over again
On here
Peter did get the email but unfortunately it went into his spam folder and he only saw it yesterday. Sadly, it was too late to do anything.
An Tearmann. Thank you for your comments on the Mass yesterday evening. I was delighted to meet you for the first time and also to catch up with BRTH and his wife. A thanks also to those who commented previously on my 60th anniversary. God bless you all.
Don’t know Peter Lawwell.
Never met him. Doubt I ever will.
Don’t know if he is any good at stuff or not.
And … I don’t actually know what he got paid to do when he was CEO.
From considerable volumes of posts, comments, opinions and observations on here and elsewhere going back a decade there appear to be two main reasons some despise him.
1. How much he earned as CEO
2. The belief he lied when (and apologies, I may get this wrong factually) he “promised” to fire the gun if presented with the silver bullet that proved Oldco cheated.
To the second point – I do find the level of visceral hatred more than ten years on bewildering.
I assume there was a belief that, if the gun was fired, there would be no more Rangers …. ever.
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Reminder to get Superbru predictions in by 12.30 tomorrow
Come on the Bhoys in Green.
We need to do a lot better in Europe. And that comes from the top of the House, first and foremost.
I dinnae expect much in Europe this Season (1st Season syndrome) but we have to recruit very well in January especially, if not January the first day of Pre-Season training, we need the new Bhoys in.
RIP the Brave young lady Sudiksha Thirumalesh.
Con- congratulations on your achievements, enjoy your posts re Lisbon and more HH
Only a fool would predict the outcome of a Solheim Cup…..
BACK TO BASICS – GLASS HALF FULL on 22ND SEPTEMBER 2023 6:29 PM
They’re just proxies. We need a bogeyman at Celtic, someone to blame. A fantasy super villain who we can pin all our failures on while giving zero credit to for successes, however significant they may be in the history of the club. The volume consistency and intensity of the criticism says it all. Everything wrong is the bogeyman’s fault, always has been.
Granted there are legitimate concerns with the handling of Res 12 but they are relatively insignificant when you consider the time frames and the amount of success on the pitch we’re talking about
Peter Liewelll, DD, the board aren’t real people.
They’re just fantasies

Sorry for having missed this previously. Congratulations!
Away back in the day, I used to think Peter (The Pointer) Grant was hard done by as the bogeyman, por cierto
Good evening all from the Lounge at Haggerston Castle.

Quadbhoy – respectfully, forced them how?”
Good question – perhaps not possible but where there is a will there is a way. I don’t think the will existed in the boardroom.
The rules were there in black and white though, and it required new rules / agreements to circumvent the rules – so presumably we could have chosen to simply refuse to be party to changing the rules for their benefit and insisted on the rules being applied. Threat of legal action / escalation to EUFA (who license the SFA?) might have been enough. Sadly we will never know.
QB
Back to the article (and the real world), tomorrow is indeed a big game. Any result there would definitely do but after the show of mentality at Ibrox it would be great to carry on the momentum with a good performance.
There were signs in the first half on Tuesday that we have really got over Ange leaving and are starting to show some real confidence in the new regime
I cannot believe that 10 years on people have not seen through Liewell. He is a CAD.
For Celtic fans to ignore what he done is like welcoming Jim Farry back.
A cad?
They’re awfy posh in the Garngad. 😉

AT did text me to ask me along and in my tardiness I never replied, but 60 years at any vocation is an inspiration and remarkable, and quite humbling, i admire that devotion very much.
as was the joke about losing to falkirk on the day you got ordained.
i love your recollections of Lisbon, and the context of being their as a priest.
keep on keeping on.
and ta for reigning me in sometimes a gentle “your better than that” is a good rebuke.

1963-09-21: Falkirk 1-0 Celtic, League Division 1
Review
Celtic came up against a well organised Falkirk team and despite numerous changes in the forward positions they could not find a way through. Hughes was caught offside time and again. Falkirk scored the only goal of the match half an hour into the second half with a 25 yard shot from their captain, Fulton. Billy Mcneill was strangely out of sorts in the game.
At the end of the first month of League play with four games played Celtic found themselves in a rather inauspicious position – 12th
