McGeouch suffers in friendly test

824

Friendly games are all about building match sharpness while hopefully avoiding injury.  Celtic were given an excellent opportunity to shape up against Real Madrid last night but a suspected broken jaw to Dylan McGeouch who was knocked unconscious will set the player back several weeks.

Henrik Larsson spectacularly returned to action after a double jaw break after three weeks in 2003, scoring with a header within minutes although he walked off the field after his injury without additional complications.  We wish Dylan a speedy recovery and hope to see him in Champions League action next month.

  4. Morning,

So Green says they have paid their football debts. Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Rapid Vienna, Palermo, St Etienne and Orebro of Sweden will say otherwise over the coming days

“They are not even my debts but I’ve paid them anyway…”

I thought they were the same club?

Just moved myself and family down south and require information where are the best places in and around MK to watch the Celts as the majority of places favour showing English football!

This is the reply I received:

” The Rangers FC is the company which owns the club called Rangers”

    So Rangers DO still exist?

    Hmmm…

  9. It was sad to see Dylan McGeouch suffer a fractured jaw against Real Madrid after having such a promising game, but he can console himself with the knowledge that he is following in the footsteps of a great Celtic player who suffered a similar fate in the USA.

On Celtic’s 1931 tour of the USA and Canada in a match against Brooklyn Wanderers played on June 17th , Jimmy McGrory broke his jaw in a collision with Pentland the Brooklyn goalkeeper. McGrory was knocked unconscious and woke up in the Swedish Hospital that night where he had his jaw rewired.

McGrory missed the next three games of the tour (against Carsteel, Hakoah, and Bricklayers) but returned against Michigan All Stars at Detroit on June 25th and scored a goal in Celtic’s 5-0 win, which was their first game played under artificial light.

McGrory played the remaining games of the tour, scoring two goals in Toronto against Ulster United on June 27th June, failing to score against the New York Yankees on 28th June, and scoring another two on the final match of the tour against Canton S.C. Baltimore on 29th June.

Best wishes and get well soon Dylan, but don’t try and bounce back as quickly as the Human Torpedo!

  10. Morning Celts,

dixiebhoy69 on 13 August, 2012 at 08:01, yir right there the scottish football media played their part in rangers downfall by sticking their heads in the sand, their readers were cheated and they deserve what they get, ever decreasing viewing/ purchase figures, very few if any told the honest truth.

Wheresthematch is relatively reliable for finding games on TV. It’s showing nothing yet. The site can lag between the news coming out and publishing so keep an eye on it. Sky sometimes change the channel they are showing a game on so don’t take it as Gospel.

As Danny [Boyle] wrote in his introduction to the brochure: “We can build Jerusalem, and it will be for everyone.” He’ll hate me for saying this but he has a very Catholic sense that yes, this is a fallen world, but you can find grace and beauty in its darkest corners – even if you chop off your arm to do so. Just phoned to book my ticket for the Helsingborgs game. I’m in area 103 and was told that my seat wasn’t available to me and that UEFA sponsors were having it. Oddly, my mate who sits two seats along from me had no such problem. This is our first season in 103, having moved from 101.

I got no advance warning of this and if I had waited until the end of this week before phoning, chances are I would have ended up in a completely separate part of the stadium.

So, if I have got this right, the real fans who shell out £600+ on a season ticket and go faithfully week after week get summarily punted out of their seats to make way for the prawn sandwich mob who only fancy the big European games. Mug punter isn’t told that his seat isn’t available until he phones up to book, by which point it might be a case of getting a ticket for up in the gods in the Lisbon Lions rear or nothing at all.

If anyone thinks their seat might be at risk because of this crap, I would recommend booking now while there are still some seats reasonably close to your normal one.

I managed to get a seat in the row in front of mine so not the end of the world but it’s still really annoying to be treated like this.

No doubt premier sports will have it, just to annoy everyone.

Really annoys me I pay sky over £80 a month and can’t see games like this.

I would imagine the home leg won’t be on tv anywhere so we can get a full house at parkhead, which makes sense.

  18. PaddyMcCourt

I am in 106 and having problems as well. I couldn`t book Online and have not managed to get through on the `phone yet. I had , though, received a letter a couple of weeks ago saying that my area might not be available. How long did you have to wait to get through on the `phone?

I got through within a minute or two to the call centre. Because of the issue with my seat, the girl told me I then had to phone the Celtic ticket office – 0871 226 1888, then option 1, then option 2. Again, got through quite quickly – that was at 9.30am.

    Good luck.

I wonder what the ole Govan paper shop proprietor thinks when he’s puttin’ out the papers in the mornin’, wall-to-wall Hunguffery about this guy gettin’ 5k a week and this other guy gettin’ 10.

He may well be thinkin’ ‘I could have done with some of that money’.

  22. scotlands shame on

good article from leckie my erchie, he still manages to criticise Celtic and he claimes he warned rangers of financial meltdown 15 years ago but they didnt listen. deluded fool.

And as for levein, what an erse. Refuses to pick wallace who despite it all is quite a cultured left back becuse he plays div 3 then picks an out and out thug with no ability who plays in div 3. The man is a clown who continues to embarrass scottish football.

  23. Looks like this idiot was well suited to rangers.

HELSINGBORG. Alejandro Bedoya, 25, has left the Rangers – but he has a job left.

    One that fits Helsingborg excellent.

    – I received a lot of messages from Rangers Friends who say “Knock Celtic out of the f***ing Champions League,” said Bedoya, smiling broadly.

Most of you are probably aware of the huge rivalry – with religious and social overtones – that exists between Glasgow clubs Rangers and Celtic.

Bedoya was never on the pitch in a so-called Old Firm derby, but he sat on the bench inside the Parkhead:

    – I can tell HIF-players about the atmosphere of hatred coming from the grandstand. It’s very special.

Hatred is, unfortunately, the right word.

    – I have had my car damaged by Celtic Fans. But there are things that happen, says Bedoya relaxed.

He left the crisis club Rangers, for financial reasons, relegated to the fourth division, to play in Europe again. In Kalmar today is American not playable, but on Monday hoping HIF make everything clear – and then I will Bedoya time to get enough match practice for Celtic matches.

    – Physically, I’m in good shape, but I’m in the middle of my pre-season, have only played a few friendlies, so I’m a little behind the others. But I tend to be lättränad.

    Additional ready for Celtic

That your new club will soon meet your old club’s worst competitor …?

    – I will be extra ready for the match, I can promise! And I have promised my old Rangers Friends to do one last thing for them – knock out Celtic … haha.

Bedoya received a lot of their time in the Rangers destroyed by injury but played at the end of last season and is full of hopes for the time in HIF:

    – The game in Europe was of great importance when making my choice. When I was growing up at home in the U.S. I always looked the Champions League on TV and it’ll be fun to be part of it.

Helsingborg are Bedoya as an attacking midfielder, center or on an edge, which gives the team more options.

    – In Europe the game maybe we need to play 4-5-1 sometimes, then Bedoya good for us in the offensive, says coach Åge Hareide.

Not a bad offer considering how he’s played since the leg break. Not if we’re going to see the player we had a year ago though.

Anyone know how much money Celtic made out of their trip to philly?

  25. mearns 2 milton-Like Pabloh I think Premier Sports will have away game probably, someone posted that Setanta Ireand are showing it,they are the same company.Shortbread are far too busy squandering money on the Ramsdens Sovvy Ring Cup,and The Challenge Cup,to spend money on meaningful games.Priorities and all that….

  26. iPaddy McCourt

That problem has been ongoing for about 10years now.

So much so that I changed my seat because of it.

It was more relevant during the MON years.

There was a working committee set up to try to resolve some issues but I’m not sure what became of it.

Funnily enough, the ticket I got in exchange was always in a much better seat than the one I had in 403 NSU.

The three brothers who sat beside me, though, always had to split up if they wanted seats in the NS.

The squad of guys in front of me all got punted into the JS stand if memory serves me right.

If you’re on the direct ticket scheme, you’ll be put wherever, but if you’re not, you can phone them on the end day that ST holders have first choice on their own tickets, and you can get one in any seat available. You have a couple of days before a general sale.

When we met with people from the club in a meeting one night at CP, they were stuck between a rock and a hard place. UEFA demand these seats, it’s nothing to do with Celtic.
