Missing Organ Grinder

1063

It took a late goal from Anthony Stokes to secure Celtic’s win at Tannadice in August.  That led to a five match unbeaten run for Dundee United, which ended two weeks ago at Pittodrie before Inverness knocked 10-man United out of the League Cup on Tuesday with a 120th minute goal.

Jackie McNamara has stabilised his team and they are likely to finish in the top three this season, but the defeat on Tuesday, which led to a storm of controversy over the behaviour of Nadir Ciftci, will be a major challenge ahead of United’s trip to Celtic Park.  The champions should win comfortably.

There was little glibness evident in The Herald’s sombre interview with Dave King, published this morning.  Despite apparently getting along famously with antagonists on either of Rangers International shareholding, he was unable to reach a deal, perhaps because he didn’t speak to the Organ Grinder behind the club playing in Rangers colours.

Indeed, neither King, nor anyone else trying to oust, or do a deal with, the current board, knows the ultimate beneficiary behind Blue Pitch Holdings et al.  Is it you?  It’s not me, but I suppose that’s what everyone is saying right now.

That question, is the only show in town.

King wrapped up his comments to The Herald by saying “Over the last two years we have all witnessed the destructive value when individuals, who should be putting the club first, advance personal agendas through the media in an attempt to influence the most important stakeholder in Rangers Football Club – the fans”.

Self-awareness is a rare thing.

Mr King is 100% correct on the destructive influence those who have divided his new favourite club have had.  Without the modestly self-named Blue Knights causing ultimately unproductive havoc, Charles Green’s consortium would surely not have over-paid and under-charged, leading to the situation King believes could lead to administration.  The question now for those on the outside is, do they have the votes, or are they just peeing on the Broxy Bear Burgers?

There’s talk of Roy Keane coming in as Martin O’Neill’s number two at ROI. That could be an interesting partnership …

    …………………………………………………….

I’d be very surprised if it came to fruition. Both are very volatile personalities (especially Keane). MON too predisposed to ‘walking’ if he’s not happy with a situation. Can only see him as ROI manager with J Robertson and Steve Walford as his backup team.

    Agree….

  5. I see that bonus eater Peter Lawwell has persuaded Anthony Stokes and Neil Lennon to talk about the downside of a marque signing. I wonder what SydneyTim’s views are on the matter.

The mark of such a signing is that the player in question has consistent proven ability at a high level to demand such a high weekly wage way above Celtic’s wage structure.

Signings below that high level carry a higher risk of failure but that is the market Celtic have to shop in.

We can make the best of what we have or moan about what we have’nt depending on our attitude.

Mind you, I don ‘t think Martin and Keano would be a good combination. Both are outspoken. Martin needs a foil. Someone who works quietly in the background and smooths over potential problems between management and players. I don’t see Roy as that type of person.

Jackie Mac has shown himself to be a shrewd manager just as he was a clever footballer.

He is “Celtic minded” and if NFL was to leave, Jackie would be a strong candidate to relace him. I don’t like speculation of this nature. It can start false rumours and unsettle people.

NFL is a great manager for us and he is maturing all the time. All good things come to an end but I hope NFL is at CP for a good few years yet.

Somebody mentioned the other day that John Kennedy was being primed for the job in the Liverpool “boot room” tradition. Continuity can be good ( Barca tried it ) but talent is so important. Look at the massive impact WGS has had with the Scotland team. We should always get the best man available at the time wheb the vacancy occurs. Cheap options invariably turn into expensive mistakes.

Don’t often disagree with you but I have to on this one. We can afford to show more ambition in the transfer market in my opinion. We have taken in a lot of money in transfers and Champions League. We have not shown enough ambition in finding a goal scorer in my opinion.

We have a sensible signing policy and wage structure in place – up to a point. Henrik Larsson was paid at a much higher level than his team mates towards the end of his Celtic career. He scored goals and put bums on seats. He won a lot of bonuses for his team mates. The current squad would prosper with a couple of class signings.

The downside of our current policy is that we develop and sell players for a profit as soon as they show they have the talent to prosper at a club in a bigger league. We don’t use the money we take in to strengthen the squad. We use it to buy players with potential. We actually take a step backwards and weaken the team. We never see Celtic getting stronger year on year.

You have to admit that 22000 is a decent turnout for Sevco last night. I doubt the old club with Laudrup and co would’ve got much more. The Hun is a strange being however. They seem to take great pride in these shows of loyalty in time of need, but where are they when it really matters? Having every advantage at their disposal, from a compliant Governing body, to Masonic influence and a fawning msm, they still couldnt mobilise to save the old club.

When the bloodsuckers got in the door they blamed everyone else for their disaster, even dishing out threats to those who warned them of impending doom. To me, they come across as the archetypal school bully. Spoiled and petulant, but nasty and violent with it. I always think the bungling oaf and high school bully Biff Tannen from Back to the Future characterises them perfectly.

This movie has ended the same way. As Celtic FC move ahead and contemplate Ajax in the CL, many fans of the new club remain stuck in a time warp, 323 old years to be precise.( note the increase in walks)

A second third or fourth reincarnation will probably come about, with the same true blues still worshipping a corpse like Tutenkamen for the next 1000 years.

Its all too hollow, too little and too late. Somebody somewhere has to put these poor souls out of their misery.

“I’m sure the boys at Rangers would tell you plenty stories about him as well. I’d put him in the same bracket as Anthony Stokes – nuts at times but there’s no malice to him.”

I had been told board were not keen on a new deal for Stokes. That quote would explain why.

  25. kevinlasvegas Supporting Wee Oscar Knox on

Not been posting a lot of late on here here due to the infighting transfer window squablings and the silence of the board through the past two weeks yadda yadda yadda and its also been down to my own anger at the inevitable return to the old cheating ways when they return to our league but the stuff in the past 24 hrs of another super dave walking away and the airdrie fan stuff is hopefully the beginning of the real end. To quote Kojo “evil begets evil” they deserve everything they get and no matter how many bothers try and bail them out their own arrogance will be there undoing, they don’t play well with others and think they are better than everyone else and that’s what will kill them.

  26. Celtic v Dundee Utd is as glamourous a league fixture you’ll get, and if I

had a second Scottish team, which I don’t, I might pick Utd.

A succession of Utd managers, and teams made this a difficult

encounter, but Celtic will have too much for Utd, who’ve toiled

to find consistency under Jackie McNamara, whereas before

especially under Craig Levein, they’d simply park the bus, and

try and hit on the break.

I hope Jackie McNamara doesn’t change tactics and plays his more

open game, which will I reckon will be his problem.
