No rest period for Emilio will be welcomed

673

I know I’m not the only one with a pavlovian dislike of hearing Celtic players mentioned in international match reports in June.  Preseason training is only four weeks away, quickly followed by the Champions League qualifying round, so these weeks should be for rest and recuperation.  The one exception to the rule, this summer, is Emilio Izaguirre, who is set to play two World Cup qualifiers for Honduras over the next two weeks.

Emilio missed most of last season through injury and then sat out much of the remaining part of the campaign due to the impressive form of Charlie Mulgrew.  He is the one player in the squad who benefit from competitive football to restore his edge, and confidence.

  10. Lots of rumours already about Thommo in cyberspace.

let’s hope for an early statement from Celtic to quash the LL headlines

  11. I will be sad to see Thommo go, a real hunskelper extraordinaire.

All the best Alan in your next footballing venture.

The rumour mill will go into overdrive but I wouldn’t believe any of it, as most of it will come from hun scum wanting to create division.

  12. Daily Mail claiming Thommo’s “lifestyle” was worrying the club, and this is why he has been sacked.

Inevtable that these rumours would start, club needs to put out a statement asap to prevent the LL sowing discord.

  13. Kojo,

I posted last night but didn’t realise you were away.

It is really good to have you back online and back to your old self, take it easy and don’t be overdoing things.

All the very best in your recovery and I hope the Celts (especially the young Celts coming through the system) make you smile more than ever next season.

I too hope he is successful, but i’d like to have read about him leaving and why on the clubs website, a messy start on the news management front imo.In saying that though it could be for a multitude of reasons it’s not on there, positive or negative, maybe it’s come out of the blue quick style and uncontrollable. Then again by the time i finish this post all conjecture could be rendered redundant as there has been a plethora of authoratitive statements from Celtic fc and other MSM .Good to see you back in the saddle

I hope you are wrong about Izzaguire, his football ability is of a higher standard than you stated earlier. He is not the best defender, but he occupies the opposition so much this is rarely exposed.

    I hope the lad stays.

I hope all the promising young players stay, not cashing in, we are not a selling club. Without spending too much, at least not more than we can afford we can add to this promising team.

Good to see you back and recovering, stay healthy.

    Great minds etc…………………………. :-)

  20. Lets be honest now, Thommo has either quit because he feels he’s got a job better than at Celtic, he was demanding to much money in his new contract or his personal life has caused problems.

He’s not the fist and he won’t be the last to leave us (for a variety of reasons) no need for people oh here to get their panties in a twist.

  21. Kojo,

I am glad that everything will be fine for you.

As for my boys, well you got it right, bursting with pride.

I listened to him on the radio show yesterday and to be truthful, he spoke like he had been doing it all his life.

Subjects changed, questions changed in a matter of seconds and he answered in a heartbeat.

On the way to Mass, I said to his stepmum, how clever he came

across and she said in reply, that she, knowing his mum and dad, could understand where his brains came from.

Maybe a grain of truth there, but he has surely added to that grain.

As for Kevin, he is the greatest thing in my life, and the supreme triumph.

    Please keep laughin’

    From the Daily Mail

Celtic first-team coach Alan Thompson was sacked last night – just three weeks after the champions lifted the SPL trophy at Parkhead.

Friends of Thompson claimed he had been dismissed because of concerns within the club about his ‘lifestyle’.

The 38-year-old was said to be ‘shocked and very disappointed’ by the news he was being axed from Neil Lennon’s backroom staff.

Thompson is also understood to have left demanding to know if the decision was down to former team-mate Lennon or the club hierarchy. It is believed that no compensation was agreed for his one-year rolling contract, leaving open the possibility of a legal dispute.

In February 2011, Thompson was fined £600 and banned from driving for 16 months after admitting a drink-driving charge. Sources claim Thompson received further warnings from the club about his behaviour.

The dramatic development leaves Lennon with assistant Johan Mjallby and coach Garry Parker as the key members of his technical staff.

It remains to be seen whether any moves will be made to replace Thompson before Celtic step up preparations for the Champions League qualifiers that will open their new campaign.

The Geordie was brought back to Celtic Park by Lennon when the Northern Irishman was appointed as permanent boss in the summer of 2010.

In public, their relationship seemed close, with Thompson lavishing praise on both Lennon’s managerial ability and his mental strength as they closed in on last season’s convincing title triumph.

Now, though, their bond has been broken, bringing to an end a Celtic connection that started for Thompson when he was signed for the club by Martin O’Neill in a £2.75million move from Bolton Wanderers in 2000.

He went on to help the club reach the final of the 2003 UEFA Cup in Seville – alongside Lennon and Mjallby – as Celtic lost to Porto.

Thompson won three SPL titles under O’Neill and was regularly at the heart of Old Firm action, scoring seven times against Rangers and being sent off in three derbies.

The press in this country have nailed their colours to the mast consistently, lets wait and here what Celtic say. Alan may be going for a Numero Uno slot and I think we can all understand him going for that.
