No rest period for Emilio will be welcomed

673

I know I’m not the only one with a pavlovian dislike of hearing Celtic players mentioned in international match reports in June.  Preseason training is only four weeks away, quickly followed by the Champions League qualifying round, so these weeks should be for rest and recuperation.  The one exception to the rule, this summer, is Emilio Izaguirre, who is set to play two World Cup qualifiers for Honduras over the next two weeks.

Emilio missed most of last season through injury and then sat out much of the remaining part of the campaign due to the impressive form of Charlie Mulgrew.  He is the one player in the squad who benefit from competitive football to restore his edge, and confidence.

  3. Mr Green, who is the man in pole position to take over the running of Rangers, has issued a statement tonight. As it follows on from my last couple of posts, I thought I would offer some commentary on it.

    With the greatest of respect to Mr Green, I think his statement tonight is nonsense. He mis-states some of the effects of Lord Glennie’s decision; he talks about wanting a speedy resolution, whilst at the same time flagging up various reasons for delay; he repeats the “received wisdom” that as the people responsible for the “misdeeds” as he calls them are no longer there at Ibrox, this should temper the sanction imposed, notwithstanding that Rangers benefited from those same “misdeeds”; and he cites the good of Scottish football as reasons for a reduced penalty, whilst grossly overstating the importance of Rangers’ position in the Scottish Cup.

    Steve Clark would be good. Certainly hope the board have some kind of plan in place.

    “Equally, the alternative sanction of expulsion from the Scottish Cup is itself a very serious punishment which would also have a severe impact on Scottish football as well as on our Club.

    Anybody remember thinking the semis of Celtic V Hearts & Hibs V Aberdeen were lacking in anything (apart from a goal or two for the Hoops) due to hunlessness – or the Final for that matter?

  13. Could someone clarify for me, who now owns ibrox ?

    I remember someone saying Whyte owned it through Liberty capital and that it was now registered in the Virgin Islands.

    Is it owned in isolation from every other part of the business ?

  14. I’ll take your word for it Doc. I have only been working out that way for a few months. Fallen was decked out in the apron months before the jubbly carry on.

    Didn’t see any in Airth but will bow to your obvious knowledge on the subject.

    Strangely as we drove into Newcastle yesterday, passing homes and streets bedecked in red, white and bue bunting and fags adorned with pictures of Lizzie it didn’t upset me in the slightest. The difference was that I didn’t think it was put up to offend me or insult me.

  18. SFA statement – make up your own mind Charles Green or Ragers version;

    “Referring the matter to the Court of Session, Rangers FC utilised the court’s right of Supervisory Jurisdiction contained within Scots Law.

    “Given that any two parties can seek arbitration, the club was not ‘prohibited from appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport’, as was claimed.

    “Indeed, no representation was made by the club to the Scottish FA to discuss the possibility or the process of seeking arbitration via the Court of Arbitration for Sport before Judicial Review was actioned.”
