I caught an online synopsis of Rangers’ owner Craig Whyte’s recent meeting with a group of the club’s fans last night. The group report that Whyte hopes, “’Rangers Football Club Plc’ could survive any administration event but feels it would not be the end of the world if it didn’t.”
We can all agree, it sure wouldn’t be the end of the world if that particular entity didn’t survive, although I suspect Mr Whyte is alluding to the possibility of a new club emerging. Celtic Quick News first raised the liquidation scenario back in October and explained a prepack route for Rangers Newco FC. If a football company goes into liquidation a secured creditor, in Rangers case this would be Craig Whyte, can retain control of key assets, such as the stadium, but would not own a football club which was part of any league structure.
In Scotland any Newco FC would have to apply for membership of the Scottish Premier League or Scottish Football League. A simple majority of the SPL board (three votes required) would be enough to vote a club into the SPL. The board currently has representatives from Celtic, Dundee United, Motherwell and St Johnstone, as well as SPL chief exec, Neil Doncaster. It is chaired by Ralph Topping, who only votes in the event of a stalemate.
If Rangers lose their tribunal against Her Majesty’s tax authorities (think of her underequipped soldiers), Celtic will not be the only club who will consider the commercial and competitive disadvantage they suffered while paying their taxes for the last 12 years, but they may be one of the few clubs that would survive without the sponsorship and TV income dependent on a club with the Rangers brand participating in the league. Celtic would vote against allowing Rangers into the league but I can see zero chance of Dundee United, St Johnstone, Motherwell or Neil Doncaster doing the same. If the board voted Newco FC into the league, the liquidation of Rangers would not be the end of the world; a football club would die but another could quickly emerge at the same location, selling tickets to the same people.
Opening positions on what sporting cost Newco FC should face for league entry were taken months ago when it was reported that Rangers would fight “tooth and nail” against a 25 point penalty on a Newco. A 25 point penalty on the phoenix of a failed club after 12 seasons of financial benefit would be an insufferable insult. This amounts to little more than a the loss of a single league title. 12 seasons of benefit should result in a 12 seasons of penury at the insolvency-event rate of 10 points per season. Small cost for the enormous gift of a league place and a huge football franchise. The SPL must also strike from the record any financially doped titles won by clubs still in existence or not.
Can you imagine if Peter Lawwell said, “It wouldn’t be the end of the world if Celtic PLC didn’t survive”! There would be an impromptu media village outside Celtic Park that would rival the Obama inauguration in size. Huge story sitting on a plate just waiting to be written up. Or not.

As I said earlier this is my opinion on the position perhaps this is why we might want to cultivate friends ie Hibs who are in danger of relegation by loaning them players for the rest of the season.
Any club facing relegation would not vote for Newco without being compensated and the winner of Div.1 would take legal action as a change of rules would be required to stop them coming up, they to would have to be finacially compensated and none of the authorities are in a position to compensate 1 club never mind 2.

Celtic need competition in order to thrive. Other Scottish clubs also need a competitive and more lucrative environment in order to improve. Dunfermline are gaining no crowd advantage by being whiping boys in the SPL as against winning the first division
These issues can be resolved if clubs are allowed to form leagues and associations which suit their needs, rather than be hampered by being restricted to national boundaries. FIFA, UEFA and SFA defend the status quo because International Football provides them with perks; they do not want major popular clubs to thrive. Therefore, football has developed over the last 30 years to make Wigan, Getafe, Chievo, Mainz and Lille more attractive to play for than Celtic, Anderlecht, Ajax, Ferencvaros, Benfica, Legia, Rapid, Sparta Prague and Olympiakos who all have more loyal and larger fan bases.
It does not need to be Rangers that provide Celtic with competition. I would prefer we had more honourable opponents to play against.
Soon it will be a moot point. No-one can save Rangers now. Jack Irvine is being paid for nothing.

CELTIC have been dealt a further injury blow with the news that Beram Kayal will require surgery to his right ankle that could possibly see him out of action for at least four months.
The Israeli internationalist was injured during the recent 1-0 derby victory and was initially ruled out for four weeks.
Following a second set of scans recommended by the specialist one week post-investigation, it has been confirmed that Beram will require surgery.
This will be performed in London on Monday and, depending on the outcome of this procedure, the player could be out of action for at least four months.
There will be a further update following the surgery next week

The application is made by the administrator/liquidator to transfer membership of the defunct company’s registration to another club, so I think you’re right that it’s logical to assume that the huns would no longer be included in the number eligible to vote.
So 10 clubs would have to support the move.
In theory therefore Celtic could be opposed but be overruled though that would mean the bottom club in effect voting in favour of their own relegation.

Regarding that meeting between Whye and the hun supporters.
Bear in mind that the RTC blog says that the Share Purchase Agreement between Murray and Whyte stipulates that MIH have control of the FTT case, Whyte has no input and no say in how it’s run.
So all Whyte’s pronouncements on the issue are those of an onlooker not a protagonist.
In short, they’re just so much spiel.

It has come to my attention that a vote of the SPL Board will be required should a secured creditor of a liquidated Club apply for a phoenix of that Club to be allowed membership of the SPL, and that as a current Board member you would be required to vote.
I will be quite frank with you, that eventuality is now very likely, with Rangers the Club (sic) in question.
Be quite clear, a vote that allows that to happen, regardless of pursuant penalty, will be met with non attendance at your stadium indefinitely by the vast majority of Celtic support, having at least the same effect of the errant Club’s extinction. I felt it important to point that out now in advance of the likely scenario playing out.
In any respect I trust you will not have an eye only on finance and vote yourself into a position of eternal also rans with no sporting integrity or ambition but fell this additional information may be useful to you.

Ernie, I didn’t realise it was still breathing!
With cognisance of the general malaise in this (scottish) society and the unqualified, unstinting and ongoing support of the cheating huns by the establishment of this great wee country,
can anyone explain to me why the huns would not be allowed back into the SPL with the bare minimum 10 point deduction?
Dont forget, this is scotland, the land who introduced new legislation to criminalise celtic supporters after the huns disgraced themselves in a football match against the club these same fans support!
The new huns will only receive the absolute minimum penalty that can be enforced. If they need to, and they probably will, the authorities will re-write the rulebook to make sure that no other club will be allowed to benefit from the favourable treatment that the huns will receive!
