Not the end of the world if Rangers don’t survive! Too true

I caught an online synopsis of Rangers’ owner Craig Whyte’s recent meeting with a group of the club’s fans last night.  The group report that Whyte hopes, “’Rangers Football Club Plc’ could survive any administration event but feels it would not be the end of the world if it didn’t.”

We can all agree, it sure wouldn’t be the end of the world if that particular entity didn’t survive, although I suspect Mr Whyte is alluding to the possibility of a new club emerging.  Celtic Quick News first raised the liquidation scenario back in October and explained a prepack route for Rangers Newco FC.  If a football company goes into liquidation a secured creditor, in Rangers case this would be Craig Whyte, can retain control of key assets, such as the stadium, but would not own a football club which was part of any league structure.

In Scotland any Newco FC would have to apply for membership of the Scottish Premier League or Scottish Football League.  A simple majority of the SPL board (three votes required) would be enough to vote a club into the SPL.  The board currently has representatives from Celtic, Dundee United, Motherwell and St Johnstone, as well as SPL chief exec, Neil Doncaster.  It is chaired by Ralph Topping, who only votes in the event of a stalemate.

If Rangers lose their tribunal against Her Majesty’s tax authorities (think of her underequipped soldiers), Celtic will not be the only club who will consider the commercial and competitive disadvantage they suffered while paying their taxes for the last 12 years, but they may be one of the few clubs that would survive without the sponsorship and TV income dependent on a club with the Rangers brand participating in the league.  Celtic would vote against allowing Rangers into the league but I can see zero chance of Dundee United, St Johnstone, Motherwell or Neil Doncaster doing the same.  If the board voted Newco FC into the league, the liquidation of Rangers would not be the end of the world; a football club would die but another could quickly emerge at the same location, selling tickets to the same people.

Opening positions on what sporting cost Newco FC should face for league entry were taken months ago when it was reported that Rangers would fight “tooth and nail” against a 25 point penalty on a Newco.  A 25 point penalty on the phoenix of a failed club after 12 seasons of financial benefit would be an insufferable insult.  This amounts to little more than a the loss of a single league title.  12 seasons of benefit should result in a 12 seasons of penury at the insolvency-event rate of 10 points per season.  Small cost for the enormous gift of a league place and a huge football franchise.  The SPL must also strike from the record any financially doped titles won by clubs still in existence or not.

Can you imagine if Peter Lawwell said, “It wouldn’t be the end of the world if Celtic PLC didn’t survive”!  There would be an impromptu media village outside Celtic Park that would rival the Obama inauguration in size.  Huge story sitting on a plate just waiting to be written up.  Or not.

    Like others on here, I’ve put a couple of cheeky bets on Arbroath to win and the draw. Thanks to whoever suggested setting up a skybet account – £10 free bet on the draw at 6-1. I’m not so brave and not really a gambler so only put £5 on the win at 14-1.

     

     

    I initially suggested to a hun in my work that they’d be after the draw to get the replay cash from 15,000 huns at home which he said was nonsense as it would be covered by the season ticket and would end up costing them money as they make zero from food sales and would have to cover the cost of stewarding. 5 minutes later he sheepishly came back and said that he had forgotten, it’s League Cup games that are in the season ticket. This has got draw written all over it, I tell ye!

    I have to say I too think it was a full blooded 50-50 that Kayal came off worse from. Thought it at the time and after reviewing it several times I still think that!

     

     

    Although McCulloch should not have been on the pitch to be involved in the 50-50 in the first place.

    The rules regarding appeals against red cards should be amended such that an unsuccessful appeal carries an automatic additional number of games ban (the number depending on the extent to which the appeal is without merit) on top of any other ban.

    Kayals foot was on the top of the ball, the thugs foot was so high off the ground there was no attempt for the ball IMO! He knew exactly what he was doing, as did Healy and Lafferty.

    It’s sickening that the thug McCulloch was allowed to play against us. So much for the SFA’s fast-track procedure.

     

     

    If Collum was refereeing in Europe he knows he would have to give a red card for such a dangerous challenge.

     

     

    This epitomises everything that is wrong with Scottish football: “wholehearted” (i.e. extremely dangerous) challenges are allowed, especially when committed by a Dignity FC player.

     

     

    Compare the fairly harmless challenge for which Collum red-carded James Forrest against Hamilton.

     

    And Elbows did not even get a yellow!

     

     

    It’s disappointing that our manager, who should know better, is so conciliatory. They will not return the favour, Lenny.

    Is the relevant provision not Article 14 of the SPL’s Articles of Association which requires a Qualified Resolution ie a 90% vote at a General Meeting to give the Board authority to iniate the process for the transfer of a club’s membership?

    ibleedgreenandwhite – I am saying it is a fair challenge. Just putting that pic out there for people to decide. There are other pics were it shows McCulloch follow through but for me that is the best still as it is the moment of ball impact and is the moment the injury occured.

     

     

    By the way for the absence of any doubt, I hate defending clugger but the hordes are already giving him credit for “doing” Kayal. I don’t think he did anything of the sort…..

    Back in October 2010 after the dougiegate thing I predicted that court cases were on the horizon.

     

     

    I think the time has come for a few small shareholders to get together, with the intent to sue the SFA/SPL should any newco be admited straight back into the SPL.

     

     

    I also think they should look to sue the same bodies for loss on income due to the fraud that has been commited by one of their member clubs.

    The article was discussed by a few of us on the day in question, Wednesday morning i think it was

     

     

    More than myself thought he should be up on an SFA charge for his comments. They were pretty distasteful
