Now or never for colt team

119

Celtic and Oldco were talking about putting colt teams into the bottom tier of Scottish football 50 years ago, it is an idea that has persisted since.  The proposition was always financially backed but never convincing enough to gain support from either the lower league clubs, or those closer to the top of the pyramid, who did not want to pass a developmental advantage to a rival.

Newco’s current colt team proposal has the backing of those who want to avoid relegation, and Celtic, and comes at a time of greatest need for money.  It surely has to be now or never for this idea.

The attraction of a colt team for Celtic is clear: have youths compete against experienced adults on a regular basis.  It would also mean fewer players out on loan, where their progress is more difficult to nurture and monitor.

While it makes sense to Celtic, I’m not convinced the economic situation is sufficiently dire at the bottom of the pyramid to see this one voted through.  It would also provide Hearts with an unmerited promotion straight back to the Premiership, and I suspect there’s little goodwill heading in that direction.

  1. Stand behind the team. Renew your season ticket today.

By: Newsroom Staff on 08 Jun, 2020 16:01

    RENEW BY 30TH JUNE 2020

We all want to be back together at Celtic Park. We are working in circumstances completely outwith our control but are liaising closely with the Government and the SPFL to bring you back to Celtic Park sooner rather than later. We are making progress on this and it is our top priority.

Until then, we have secured specific broadcast rights from the SPFL and SKY in order to provide all 2020/21 Season Ticket holders with an exclusive Online Pass to Paradise through the addition of a Virtual Services element to your Season Ticket.

This will be an online platform built for our Season Ticket holders, to ensure you don’t miss a minute of the action from Celtic Park as you watch the champions safely from home whilst you cannot attend the match in person due to closed door or reduced capacity restrictions.

As announced at the weekend, we have invested in a new service, engaging with highly-rated production company Sunset+Vine as we look ahead to bring you high quality, first-class sports coverage.

To be clear, any matches which you cannot attend in person because of closed door or reduced capacity restrictions will be included in the Virtual Services element of your Season Ticket.

Each Season Ticket holder will access this platform through a unique login that will be provided before the season begins.

  2. So, that’s it? Just suck it up and gie’s yer dosh. No considerations for watching a BCD match from home at a cost of £666 x 2, for home matches only, as compared to £ 180 per year for all matches, home and away for CTV overseas subscribers? Pretty poor.

  3. Good evening CQN from a sun kissed Garngad

Hot Smoked – from earlier thread, I was shattered this morning and after shower straight oot the door, to many cans of the auld mick jagger yesterday and I am burnt tae feck as well from yesterday.

Get a colt/Reserve team into the leagues, I think it’s a good idea.

    Hail Hail

  4. SEASON 2020/21 SEASON TICKET FAQS

WILL I NEED TO WATCH ALL MATCHES DURING SEASON 2020/21 VIA THE NEW PLATFORM?

The Club are committed to getting supporters back into Celtic Park as soon as it is safe to do so and we are doing everything we can to achieve this. The platform is therefore the only way to ensure that supporters don’t miss any league action from Celtic Park whilst games have to be played ‘behind closed doors’ or with a reduced capacity as a consequence of the Coronavirus pandemic.

ARE THE VIRTUAL SERVICES AVAILABLE IN IRELAND?

Yes. Any Season Ticket Holder located in the UK or Ireland will be able to access the Virtual Services. Any Season Ticket Holders located out with the UK and Ireland should contact tickets@celticfc.co.uk for further information.

DO I NEED TO SUBSCRIBE TO SKY SPORTS AND/OR CELTIC TV TO GET ACCESS TO THE VIRTUAL SERVICES?

No. The Club’s Virtual Services are entirely separate from both Celtic TV and Sky Sports and are exclusively available to Season Ticket Holders. The Virtual Services will be delivered directly by the Club to Season Ticket Holders.

WHAT MATCHES ARE INCLUDED IN THE VIRTUAL SERVICES TICKET?

All games included within your Season Ticket which have to be played ‘behind closed doors’ or with a reduced capacity as a consequence of the Coronavirus pandemic will be included within the Virtual Services.

WILL THERE BE ANY CHANGES TO THE PRICE OF MY SEASON TICKET AS A RESULT OF THE VIRTUAL SERVICES?

The price previously communicated by the Club remains the same. Whilst we appreciate that supporters will be disappointed not to be able to support the team at Celtic Park for every match during such an important season, the Virtual Services ensures that Season Ticket Holders will not miss out completely on the action in these unprecedented times. It is our aim to have Season Ticket Holders back at Celtic Park as soon as we can and we are doing everything we can to achieve this. The Club is also committed to looking at ways of delivering additional value to our supporters over the course of Season 2020/21 and will provide further updates in this regard when we have more details.

IS A REFUND AVAILABLE FOR THE MATCHES WHICH SEASON TICKET HOLDERS CAN’T ATTEND DUE TO CORONAVIRUS IF THEY CHOOSE NOT TO USE THE VIRTUAL SERVICES (E.G. IF ONLY ONE LOGIN IS REQUIRED IN A HOUSEHOLD OF MULTIPLE SEASON TICKET HOLDERS OR IF A SEASON TICKET HOLDER DOES NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO ACCESS THE VIRTUAL SERVICES?)

Whilst the Club appreciates that not everyone may wish, or be able, to make use of the virtual services, there is no price reduction or refund available. It is our aim to have Season Ticket Holders back at Celtic Park as soon as we can and we are doing everything we can to achieve this. The Club is also committed to looking at ways of delivering additional value to our supporters over the course of Season 2020/21 and will provide further updates in this regard when we have more details.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE ALREADY PURCHASED MY SEASON TICKET BUT WISH TO CANCEL?

Any Season Ticket Holder who has already renewed but now wishes to cancel should fill out the cancellation form available here and return it to the Ticket Office by 30 June 2020 (either by post or email to tickets@celticfc.co.uk as detailed on the form).

HOW WILL THE CLUB DETERMINE WHICH SEASON TICKET HOLDERS ARE ALLOWED INTO CELTIC PARK IN THE EVENT OF A REDUCED CAPACITY BEING PERMITTED?

The Club is committed to getting supporters back into Celtic Park as soon as possible and will investigate any and all options for this. Given the lack of clarity over exactly what may be permitted and what requirements will be stipulated by the Government and other regulatory bodies, we do not currently have any further detail. The Club will communicate further details to our Season Ticket Holders in due course.

  7. Oh my days! Jeremie Frimpong wins Celtic Young Player of the Year

By: Paul Cuddihy on 08 Jun, 2020 17:01

JEREMIE Frimpong has capped off a memorable first season at Celtic by winning the club’s Young Player of the Year Award, as voted for by the supporters.

  8. Bigbhoy, can your statement on them getting jobs in the shipyards be verified by facts anywhere? I would love to be able to show that to the local Hun!

  9. There is no doubt in my mind that a colt celtic team in the lower leagues would be a positive for the league, the finances for the league, for other clubs and for all the players involved.

Our best kids playing against men with 15 years in the game would accelerate development. People underestimate the qualities needed to play football in the lower leagues. It would also give kids in the lower leagues a chance to show what they have got.

However, scotland is full of small minded people and clubs that sell themselves and their clubs short. If embraced the introduction of colt teams may just improve many aspect of the lower leagues.

    HH

  10. Why would Aberdeen or Hibs support accelerated development for Celtic youths ? Still don’t see what’s in the proposal for Clubs like Hamilton except less money and a greater threat of relegation should the league resort back to 12 further down the line.

  11. How many virtual season tickets will it take to pay Peter’s bonus at year end? Full whack for virtually nothing.

    What an absolute joke.

  12. Ms Elaine Knius on

FRIESDORFER and EMBRAMIKE – Totally agree.

Blackmail pure and simple. No attempt to consult season ticket holders to hear their views or try to reach a compromise. Why not refund matches we can’t attend … at the end of the season, if our millionaire-backed Club really does need supporters’ financial support? The possibility of viewing a match virtually doesn’t equate to seeing it from your own seat at Celtic Park. At odds with consumer rights even?

Where is the proclaimed development and maintenance of relationships based on equality, fairness and mutual respect?

Celtic says, “During these extremely difficult times, we send our continued best wishes to you and your families.” They have no appreciation of just how tough these times are for some, nor do they care!

£700 to watch games on a laptop? Get it up you, Celtic

  14. Re the possibility of introducing Colt teams…

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but what if a.n.other club (eg Aberdeen) wanted to introduce a colt team to the lower leagues?

Why are only Celtic & Sevco getting mentioned?

    HH

  15. A bit of a dilemma – if the club recognised that watching a behind closed door game should mean a reduced season ticket price of, say £300, how do they continue to meet the current wage bill as well as attracting new players? I’m just asking the question, not taking sides as I have still to renew.

Personally, I did expect some sort of commitment to offer a refund, or even a discount for the season after next. Not necessarily a strict pro rata refund. But even if was something along the lines of “£10 for every game that your seat remains unavailable…”. So even if the whole season was behind closed doors the would then have charged around £350 – £400 purely for watching on a PC.

  16. Paul67 et al

Anybody know the actual details of the new Sky deal? I have read that it equates to around £26 million per year for five years, making it £130 mill. Now that is a huge amount of money in itself, but it is also less than one top EPL club will garner from Sky for one season. One club, one season. Sky will recoup the SPL money in Scotland and more. Could Scottish football raise £20 mill plus a season from its own supporters? Got to be worth at least looking into at some point.

  17. I just renewed online for me and my Son today.

I was wondering what the script will be for those on the HCTS?

With qualifiers and cup games coming up it can be costly.

Will the virtual Season Ticket cover these games?

  18. Celtic’s principal source of income in our impoverished wee league is season ticket money and Europe. To gain the latter, we need the former. Related to this, to secure the 10, we need to pay ‘good dollar for good players’.

I don’t own shares. I wasn’t around when Ferguson saved the club. So if this is the season when I can pay over the odds for the greater good and secure the immortal 10, then so be it.

    HH jg

Would that not just be the case if the 1m ruling was sideways only? We would need a metre in front and behind as well so 13,000 would be my guess.

As regards Celtic Renewal request. I felt it was the right way to go and, if I have read Jamesgang`s post correctly, I agree with him.

CELTIC BY NUMBERS on 8TH JUNE 2020 12:04 PM

Thanks for putting your work into this summary, the attention to detail is impressive. I enjoyed reading it on Saturday morning, as I did again today.

    ————————————————————————-

On Paul67’s article, two clarifications will change me from being anti-colts to pro-colts.

One, both of the proposed colts teams must have the sword of relegation to the Lowland League hanging over them. It would be unconscionable to support teenagers playing in a league for fits & giggles against grown men playing in that same league for their livelihoods.

Two, there must be adults involved in both teams. Playing against men is only half the necessary education, our teenagers have to play with men to learn how to play professional football. Not colts teams at all then, call them Celtic Cross and Sevco Swifts.

  23. The GAA in Ireland, reckon they can start with a 25% capacity at Croke Park & build it to 50%. whilst maintaining Social Distance rules.

It is widely expected that the Social distancing guideline will be reduced to one metre very shortly.

With the virus being generally suppressed, Supporters in an open air setting, probably wearing masks sitting a metre apart should be perfectly safe,

  28. The Motherwell season ticket plan is a winner as far as I am concerned. I am truly (even more) scunnered with the Celtic Board over this shambolic situation. Very conflicted now over renewing.

  29. This bit from a Tom English article at the end of 2019 is a fine example of his obvious desire to please Sevco fans:

“When Rangers won this fixture a year ago they won it at Ibrox not Celtic Park. That’s a big difference right there. They also lost their next league game to Kilmarnock and immediately handed the momentum back to Celtic.

They went on to drop more points to St Johnstone, Hibs, Kilmarnock (for a second time), Celtic and Kilmarnock once again. They shipped 15 points from January onwards, eight of them to Killie.

There are no signs that they’re about to do the same. Rangers are a lot better this season than they were a year ago and those other teams – Celtic apart – are worse, and therefore less likely to catch them out.”

    `night all.
