Oft-triangulated Georgios

763

It’s good to be back.  A power outage at our datacentre on Saturday caused servers to crash and subsequent database problems.  Our thanks to Andrew in Belfast for his invaluable help, again…

Trying hard to ignore speculation of various players coming our way, plenty of time for that later in the month, although I will add a note of caution.  The fact that a journalist gets confirmation from Neil Lennon that he is able to sign a £6m player does not constitute a promise to do so.  It’s little more than bait, for those who still read such sources.

I’ve heard nothing but good things over the years about Georgios Samaras.  He is a player who flourishes on confidence, and support, and does so most often at the highest level.  In Europe he is Celtic’s out-ball, a player capable of bringing others into the game, turning defence into attack.  It is at this rarefied atmosphere that his goal-scoring has also been most effective.  Ironically his style is less effective in the SPFL, where Celtic spend far less time 80 yards from goal.

A considerable reason for the low return in the Champions League this season was that everyone knew how reliant we’d become on Georgios.  He was heavily marked; by the time the ball got to his feet, three opponents triangulated around him.

It’s no surprise he has offers from Spain, and no doubt elsewhere, to consider. If he leaves I hope his lasting memories will be cheers of support, not his harsher experiences.

Definition of poor IT planning: datacentres who host their Status page at their own datacentre. “We’re down, but you can’t read this, because we’re down.”

“I particularly like the thought that us mineshafters were actually more optimistic (or maybe ambitious)”

I have always said that they were more optimistic (though you missed out unrealistic) but I am not accepting ambitious.

Ambition, for me, is something you want and work towards that goal to achieve for yourself. I call it a demand, rather than ambition, when you call on other people to achieve that goal on your behalf.

The paying support, if they were ever 100% in agreement about anything, could demand that all money raised by the paying support should go on player costs (transfer fees, salaries & bonuses) but we do not have the right to demand that others dip into their pockets to fund our “ambition”.

I too, would like to see Celtic as the number one team in the world. I am no less ambitious than you. I just can’t see any way to get near that aim in the post-Bosman, TV money era as I see no clubs from the peripheral leagues getting anywhere near that “ambition”. And Peter Lawwell is not responsible for the failure of Benfica or Ajax or Anderlecht or Sparta Prague or Legia Warsaw to win the Champion’s League.

I have your personal e-mail address, I’m sure you’ll confirm that I have not once ever used that address to ask you, or anybody else, of the progress of Resolution 12.

I really admire you for what you tried to achieve, I also admire others who tried to assist you.

Do you remember when you first set out with Resolution 12, do you have a date for its conception?

In your opinion……… are the chances of the five way agreement being false greater than the chances of the five way agreement being true.

Now with the five way agreement, it is easy to kill, the SFA could kill it in a moment with and unequivocal denouncement, so could the SPL, so too could the SFL, and SEVCO and Rangers……………………………………….

in the absence of the denouncement I’ll keep an open mind but if I WAS a betting man, I would not bet on Aberdeen being the first club to come out and deny the five way agreement.

Do you think the five way agreement a figment of imagination?

A lot of people on here bemoan what they call lack of competition in the league – Not me though – I wish that we could win every game 10-nil.

That competition that many yearn for is on it’s way – slowly, but surely it will arrive – Aberdeen,Hibernian and Dundee United are clubs on the up,they are all beginning to thrive again.

I don’t see any threat to us coming anytime soon from the latest version of the Ian Brady Bunch – if they survive the next few seasons, given time, they can also present a challenge to our dominance, along with the others.

    Kit,

I dont remember exactly when the resolution was born but I do remember Steinreignsupreme instigated the whole thing through a discussion we had basically asking me what I was going to do about it, he probably has a better memory of when that discussion took place.

As for the 5 way agreement, I’m no silly enough to deny it exists and not for one minute doubt it exists but the big issue for Celtic is, is there any proof it exists and that technicality would be the killer if they made the accusation without proof, IMO the only proof that would stand up would be a copy of the document with the 5 signatures, all else is speculation when making such accusations.

  9. At the time I felt “the club” was not too bothered about ranglers winning their last 2 SPL titles.

Operation save the hun was getting into full swing and it felt to me like we kind of went along with it –

I doubt it, and anyway what powers do you think they have?

  11. Surely we know the 5-way agreement exists .

As far as I know the powers that be havnt denied it.

Not that any MSM lapdogs will ever put the question.

Maybe if we had better players around to support him the opposition would have to leave more space for Sammy to do his thing.

Or maybe we could have made more of the times big Sammi was surrounded by 3 players. Somebody must have been in space somewhere : — )

    Bamboo,

Mr Gordon Strachans words during his last season gave the game away for me, when he came on telly telling the world “thats the way its always been and thats how its going to be” when asked about the Scottish way, was IMO him putting the boards opinion out there.

The fact that we dont want that and are now taking action to try and counter that outlook might (I hope) spark the board into being a bit more resistant to that philosophy.

We are not asking permission we are using their own rules and arrogance against them, however we need the board to be backing this.

  15. With reference to res12 , the one thing that sticks out for me is the fact that the governors of Scottish football are not giving two hoots about it . Ogilvie and his cronies are still in office . The honest mistakes are still happening , hand picked refs are being dispatched to take charge of their games . And last but not least is the re-employment of dougie Dougie . Action could and should have been taken before the 5way agreement , we all witnessed the underhand tricks being played out . Each and everyone of us who attend /attended matches can recall an occasion where our club were ill treated , talk of a dossier , there is enough proof to compile ten dossiers of uneven treatment against not only celtic but other teams as we’ll ( thems vs. Dundee utd sticks out ) Why didn’t, our club complain then . What I can’t understand is why DD isn’t protecting his 20.30.40 million investment , Imho the case for celtic to leave this corrupt set up was passed up , I bet if any of DD,s other business interests were being put under unfair trading practices , his army of lawyers would have been all over it . But as I stated it’s just my opinion .

  16. HT, sorry, I know this discussion is long between posts.

Disagree, for this reason, not all players of that calibre cost fortunes, Sammy himself, Hooper, Henke, Lubo. Now two of those are historic finds, but two are not.

Good players are available without breaking the bank, or our budget.

I know it’s not the most popular policy, but sometimes you have to kiss a few frogs:-)

  17. If Sammi goes he will go with my thanks and good wishes. He gets Celtic and will always be one of us.

Maybe time for him to play in Spain or Italy where he may get more time and space.

From memory of Barca at CP most of the rest of the ghuys were so far deep behind him they’ve have needed binoculars to see the bold boy. Up the park it got hoofed, to Sammi and his 3 new ‘best pals’!

  20. paolosboots FC before PLC on

If Sammy & Joe leave this month for between £2-3m & lenny says he can spend £6m then we should give McGeogh/Rogic/Biton a chance have enough in midfield & £9m should be enough to get us one or maybe two replacements in the striking department & bedded in for the CL qualifiers (provided we win the league of course).

  21. Re Sami, thought the writing was on the wall when we signed Boerigter, that hasn’t really worked out but would like to see him fit.

Regarding Barca targeting Sami, I think we are kidding ourselves if we believe they marked him with 3 players, they play a pressing game when they don’t have the ball regardless of who they play. We were weak in the CL and I have said a few tines the Karagandy home game was the biggest and best game of the season.

    TET..,

Honestly no idea, its virgin ground, we are doing our best to put a watertight argument/case together, give it to the board and monitor how they handle it.

So far their response is encouraging, and if they feel the same as us then UEFA will be looking in soon, however I suspect they’d be happy with a few SFA heads and some guarantees about change, as I expect if UEFA do investigate they will have to punish and that will be at national and international level.

  25. cant see Sammy staying he goes with my thanks some great memories

think ledley might now stay but only because of the lack of interest from bigger teams in EPL.

with any luck we will be able to shift bangurra this window

think rogic, mcgeoch and fillip T etc… need to follow watt and McGregor lead for game time. (copy example of the latter)

the rest of the new bhoys brought in need to be given more game time

get izzy and commons signed up long term

would like a quality striker, but would rather go with what we have right now if the player coming in is no better than what we have

don’t mind younger players being brought in but no squad players this window please

It may well help increase convictions in cases such as rape, domestic abuse, but it occurred to me it will increase the power the Police have in this country, and we need that!

Is it a price worth paying?
