Oft-triangulated Georgios

763

It’s good to be back.  A power outage at our datacentre on Saturday caused servers to crash and subsequent database problems.  Our thanks to Andrew in Belfast for his invaluable help, again…

Trying hard to ignore speculation of various players coming our way, plenty of time for that later in the month, although I will add a note of caution.  The fact that a journalist gets confirmation from Neil Lennon that he is able to sign a £6m player does not constitute a promise to do so.  It’s little more than bait, for those who still read such sources.

I’ve heard nothing but good things over the years about Georgios Samaras.  He is a player who flourishes on confidence, and support, and does so most often at the highest level.  In Europe he is Celtic’s out-ball, a player capable of bringing others into the game, turning defence into attack.  It is at this rarefied atmosphere that his goal-scoring has also been most effective.  Ironically his style is less effective in the SPFL, where Celtic spend far less time 80 yards from goal.

A considerable reason for the low return in the Champions League this season was that everyone knew how reliant we’d become on Georgios.  He was heavily marked; by the time the ball got to his feet, three opponents triangulated around him.

It’s no surprise he has offers from Spain, and no doubt elsewhere, to consider. If he leaves I hope his lasting memories will be cheers of support, not his harsher experiences.

Definition of poor IT planning: datacentres who host their Status page at their own datacentre. “We’re down, but you can’t read this, because we’re down.”

I hadn`t realised that ” criminal intent” was a necessary part of the OB Bill and that just adds to the stupidity of this ill thought out piece of legislation. Nevertheless, the comment which made me smile was this : “Hay, a self-confessed Rangers fan, “. Self-confessed? Brilliant !!

Anyone who doesn’t infer mens rea (criminal intent) from what was sent there shouldn’t be in a position to decide these issues.

    The self-confessed bit is beautiful!

  3. If ” criminal intent” is, indeed, an essential ingredient under the Act before a conviction can be made, then the Sheriff was probably correct in his judgement. The question now is: How can ANYONE be convicted under this truly inept Act (or is it a Bill? What is the difference?)

“The fact that it did not happen, lots of excuse can be offered, lots of body swerving can be done and done and done, but for me, just for me, we missed the best opportunity to dilute the bigotry to an irrelevance that might not come around again in the next three, or four, or five, or six, or seven generations”

Do you honestly believe that to be the case?

I , for one , think it would still be there , undiluted, irrespective of where Rangers played.

Only the passage of time itself , assisted by greater transparency brought about largely by the internet and its resident bampots , will dilute it.

A Bill is the document which is discussed in Parliament. It becomes an Act when it is enacted in its final form.

    The OB Act states:

    “6Threatening communications

(1)A person commits an offence if—

(a)the person communicates material to another person, and

(b)either Condition A or Condition B is satisfied.

    (2)Condition A is that—

(a)the material consists of, contains or implies a threat, or an incitement, to carry out a seriously violent act against a person or against persons of a particular description,

(b)the material or the communication of it would be likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm, and

    (c)the person communicating the material—

(i)intends by doing so to cause fear or alarm, or

(ii)is reckless as to whether the communication of the material would cause fear or alarm.”

The guy’s excuse was he only intended his pals to see it! On a public forum. Surely that’s got to come under 6(c)(ii) at least.

We don’t have the money, nor do the board have the will, to spend the sort of money that would mean that teams like Barca would need to focus their attention on others as opposed to Sammi.

Within the confines of Europe, I really do think Scotland has missed its best opportunity to kick its national cancer in the goolies; that in itself would not have eradicated the disease but it might have encouraged others to come out of the shadows and to fight their fears in a Scottish company.

We did not do it. We – Celtic – we stayed silent- others did speak out – they were soon shut up and forced to publicly apologise – for what? for telling the truth – and Celtic kept their truthful silence – but how much truth does that silence hold?

    I don’t know.

See how much they charge you for the next Celtic v Rangers game (oh but we’ve never ever played against the Rangers – exactly)

    God bless Scotland.

Naka, As long as I live, will never forget that free kick against United or indeed The Holy Goalie saving the penalty in same game. What a buzz that night was. Re Sammi, love the ghuy a Celtic legend, however if he decides to leave, it makes sense to try and get a million or two this window. If he goes just like Naka he will always be a hero to me.

    Thanks for that.

Seems to me that either (i) or (ii) below should have applied.

    (c)the person communicating the material—

(i)intends by doing so to cause fear or alarm, or

(ii)is reckless as to whether the communication of the material would cause fear or alarm.”

PS My 16.30 post was not a response to your 16.28 post. We were obviously typing at the same time. Oh, and thanks for your Bill/Act explanation. I thought it was something like that and that both were preceded by a Green paper…..but maybe ” Green” and the first four letters of `paper` would have been considered offensive in some quarters 0:-)

  16. Does anybody honestly believe Celtic were not ‘privy’ to the five way agreement?

If Celtic were not aware of it why don’t they just come out and announce on the BBC or CQN they were not part of the five way agreement?

What those quarters would find worse is that a green paper is often followed by a white paper!

Very true. I was going to mention that ( I read “Corridors of Power” many years ago) but didn`t want to overdo it 0:-)

  19. And if a simplistic moral Celtic Supporter walks away from the farce, is he a traitor?

And if so, what is he a traitor to?

And if an Aberdeen Supporter, or a Hibs Supporter, says shhhhhhhhhhhh! we can’t hear you… what is it in particular they are trying to say?

Ah! feck that… were top of the league, league over, and it’s not even the second week in January.

    Is that a world record?

  20. And if Celtic were not aware of the five way agreement, but now they are, then never mind Resolution 12 – why aren’t Celtic bringing all their legal eagles to swoop and sue the SPL, the SFA, THEMSELVES?

  21. Hey! we’ve either got soul and purpose or we’re just profit dealers…. you didn’t hear it from me… Walfrid told you that.

That’s an easy one to answer. They would be banned from the European gravy train that’s been pretty much guaranteed for the best part of the decade.

Those pesky uefa overlords have stitched us up and allowed the sfa to behave the way they have. The men that stole the game.

  23. Actually, the league was over before a ball was kicked in anger. Vive l’ Ecosse.

    Kit..,

I think you know I am as suspicious as you, my hope is if we get a result from our enquiries relating to res 12, it will answer all your doubts, coming from the angle that if they pursue this all they way and get the result we as supporters want, then IMO, it will show they were simply looking to go about it properly. It would also defy logic to go after the SFA on this issue if they were in agreement with the 5 way, no ?

As it stands there is a lot of encouragement to be taken from their approach to res 12, however the proof of the pudding is in the eating and theres a fair bit to go before we will be satisfied. Meanwhile we can only try and fill in the blanks and see where it takes us.

  25. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

    Oh and kit,

Until someone produces a signed copy of the 5 way agreement then there is no agreement its just a bit of paper with some proposals written on it.

Uefa overlords can do fek all, UEFA do not involve themselves in domestic leagues, and they cannot, they just rely on the domestic ruling bodies for their supposed honest decisions about the legalities of clubs in their country
