Olympiakos, Anderlecht or Besiktas, please

New Uefa seeding rules this year mean that teams in Champions League Pot 2 have a higher aggregate coefficient value than teams in Pot 1. So Barcelona (we’re bound to avoid them now they look a little lost), Atletico, PSG, Borussia Dortmund and the Manchester twins. Only Sevilla and Porto would provide some comfort, the latter, in particular.

From Pot 1 we could do worse than our old friends Spartak Moscow (18 coefficient points), although Shakhtar Donetsk, Benfica and Monaco would be decent draws.

As our primary objective is to remain in Europe after Christmas, the real battleground for Celtic is in Pot 3. I’d proverbially bite your hand off for Olympiakos, Anderlecht or Besiktas, even Basel would be acceptable. Prefer to avoid the Italians of Napoli and Roma, as well as Liverpool.

Remember, don’t go booking flights before the final confirmation of dates is concluded.

Hospitality for four on Saturday: meals, bar, Directors’ Box tickets, the lot!!

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have offered four full hospitality tickets for Saturday’s game against St Johnstone. You and three friends could benefit from a stunning pre-match meal in the Walfrid, halftime refreshments, as well as a complimentary bar before and after the game.

You will also watch the game from the Directors’ Box. In collaboration with this raffle, we are raising money for Mary’s Meals. Over 3,000 children in Malawi and Liberia eat each school day in a kitchen supported by Celtic Quick News readers. You can donate a minimum of £5 here.

To win, email your MyDonate confirmation to me, celticquicknews@gmail.com with the answer to this question IN THE SUBJECT LINE:

How many Champions League qualifying games have Celtic played in the Astana Arena before Tuesday?

Other emails with the correct answer will also be considered. Competition closes at 14:00 THIS AFTERNOON (i.e. minutes away from publication time of this article). You need to be able to collect your tickets in Glasgow on Friday. Please ensure you leave reliable contact information on your email. Good luck!

It what’s left over from the bookies bet last year and the bet I had this year, it’s mugs money, i’v already paid for my brother and myself season tickets for this year, I bet but not that heavy every week mate, I couldent afford it, easy come easy go, it’s the cream cookies money :))

  2. In the nicest possible way, I am shocked at the negative reaction from some on here to our CL draw ?

At ALL costs I wanted and was praying we would avoid that scum Chelsea mob and not for footballing reasons. I like many others, was hoping for avoiding Barca, due to getting a wee bit fed up playing them.

Considering the lack of far away travel for Celtic and our fans with the three clubs we have drawn, then I reckon we should be very happy ? We may not finish any better than 3rd but I would gladly put money on ALL of our opponents were secretly hoping to avoid The Famous Glasgow Celtic……..although none of them would probably admit it.

There is just no pleasing some folk.

I fancy The Famous Glasgow Celtic against ANY mob at Celtic Park, and who’s to say that with our fast players up front we won’t inflict serious damage on the other teams when we play them at their place /

I think it is a fantastic draw. I had said beforehand that if we got Anderlecht I would fancy our chances for third spot, which, regardless of the group we were drawn in was our main aim.

We can give a Pot 1 or 2 team a bloody nose on our day but I will just be delighted with beating Anderlecht to 3rd place.

  6. Reading back,I see i have been getting pelters for being angry at our draw for the CL.Excuse me.Are you winding me up?.i will say again, this is a horrendous draw for us.the dates for the games do us no favours either.Anyone thinking that Anderlecht will be a gimme, well,it took Man U till extra time last season to beat them, and were very lucky to do so.They have strengthened since then,so I would rate this game a 50-50 chance. We are trying to get co efficient points, how this group helps in that is beyond me.

I never once said anything about Celtic.Never have done, never will, but just how many mountains do we have to climb season after season in this tournament.I would gladly have taken Liverpool,Spurs,Man U.To draw PSG was a nightmare. They humiliated Barca last year in Paris, what could they do to us?.That is my biggest fear.

I am not throwing the towel in,just raging at our luck.we have performed miracles before. We need a couple more.

  7. Paddy Roberts announced his retirement from football. The 35 year old Man City player has been on loan at Celtic for 15 years.

Or does it just feel like that :))

  8. BFDJ THE CHEERLEADER at it again, you have to laugh :))

Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner are scoring freely for Ipswich, but that’s under no pressure. Could they handle the pressure in the top league up here? You’d have to say no.

There’s not the same scrutiny on them down south when they are playing for these clubs, and as a result they are more relaxed, and maybe that suits them better.

That’s not the type of players that Rangers want, or need, though. They need players who have a bit of bottle in them, and can handle a bit of bad press. They can come out fighting when things are against them, that’s the people Rangers need.

It’s great to see these players doing well down south, but they are with clubs now who are inferior to Rangers in my opinion and under less pressure than they experienced up here in Scotland.

Good luck to them, I wish them well, but I would never say that the club shouldn’t have sold them or it was a mistake to let them go. The weight of the shirt just proved too much.

  13. On the RER B from CDG to Gare du Nord yesterday and got talking to a Norwegian bloke. He asked who I supported and then stated one of his guys used to play for us. Said he was an agent for Thomas Rogne. Anyway – we had a good natter about football and his opinion was that Celtic are untouchable in Scotland – of course I agreed. He spoke very highly of the club and also mentioned (unprompted) that Peter LawwelI was the hardest negotiator he’d come across. He then started talking about “Rangers”. He was reasonably well-informed, but I put him absolutely straight about the liquidation of the old club, creation of a new club and the fact that they are running on empty and facing another long walk of a short pier.

    Nice bloke.

What is the alternative for the Hootnanny?.

  15. Best we could ever hope for given the strength of Pot 2 was a fighting chance to qualify for the Europa League after Christmas.

We’ve got that, a punchers chance and we usually do well under those circumstances. Either way there will be some great nights at Celtic Park and for the travelling hoops.

I remember during Tommy Burns’s time as manager PSG came to Glasgow and gave us a football lesson, 0-3, could happen again of course but you have to be in it to have any chance of winning it!

I see one of the motorway / city centre digital signs had a brick hurled through it yesterday, no doubt when either Leigh or Scotty were giving it laldy and a hurting Hun couldn’t take any more humiliation!

We are The Famous Glasgow Celtic mate…we will make our own luck ( I hope ?) LOL.

The vast majority of the other Groups would have us up against it in all honesty. I’m hoping for a couple of other Bhoys coming in ( hopefully today), and Celtic making a real fist of it, and in the process surprising some folk ( not meaning you) ?

Maybe I’m too much of a Celtic optimist sometimes, but our Bhoys on their game, can match up to most of what Europe can throw at us, especially at Celtic Park imo.

BDJ….is one of the most thickest Chumps I have ever came across, he’s obviously had one bump too many on the heid during his playing days !

He’s even too thick to realise just how thick he comes across, and there are Huns that I know that hate it when he opens his mouth.

He’s also LYING when he wishes Garner, Waghorn well etc……of course he doesn’t.

i have said for years that most footballers are thick as feck…BDJ is just one of the thickest.

According to Bert’s updated club coefficients for this season last night, we have the 4 pts for qualifying for the group stages and as such don’t get points for wins and draws in qualifying matches ?
