Olympiakos, Anderlecht or Besiktas, please

New Uefa seeding rules this year mean that teams in Champions League Pot 2 have a higher aggregate coefficient value than teams in Pot 1. So Barcelona (we’re bound to avoid them now they look a little lost), Atletico, PSG, Borussia Dortmund and the Manchester twins. Only Sevilla and Porto would provide some comfort, the latter, in particular.

From Pot 1 we could do worse than our old friends Spartak Moscow (18 coefficient points), although Shakhtar Donetsk, Benfica and Monaco would be decent draws.

As our primary objective is to remain in Europe after Christmas, the real battleground for Celtic is in Pot 3. I’d proverbially bite your hand off for Olympiakos, Anderlecht or Besiktas, even Basel would be acceptable. Prefer to avoid the Italians of Napoli and Roma, as well as Liverpool.

Remember, don’t go booking flights before the final confirmation of dates is concluded.

Hospitality for four on Saturday: meals, bar, Directors’ Box tickets, the lot!!

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have offered four full hospitality tickets for Saturday’s game against St Johnstone. You and three friends could benefit from a stunning pre-match meal in the Walfrid, halftime refreshments, as well as a complimentary bar before and after the game.

You will also watch the game from the Directors’ Box. In collaboration with this raffle, we are raising money for Mary’s Meals. Over 3,000 children in Malawi and Liberia eat each school day in a kitchen supported by Celtic Quick News readers. You can donate a minimum of £5 here.

To win, email your MyDonate confirmation to me, celticquicknews@gmail.com with the answer to this question IN THE SUBJECT LINE:

How many Champions League qualifying games have Celtic played in the Astana Arena before Tuesday?

Other emails with the correct answer will also be considered. Competition closes at 14:00 THIS AFTERNOON (i.e. minutes away from publication time of this article). You need to be able to collect your tickets in Glasgow on Friday. Please ensure you leave reliable contact information on your email. Good luck!

  1. Good evening Bhoys and Ghirls. Trying to arrange business trip around the Bayern or PSG away games. Any chance of a ticket or too early yet. Last CL away game I flew over for was the San Siro and was able to get a ticket in Milan at Banco Milano

A clear and disappointing explanation. I wanted Oktober to be the German word for September.

  6. As I have been to the last 30 Oktoberfests I consider myself to be an authority. Oktoberfest was held in October traditionally, but one year they had rather bad snow so decided to move the ‘Fest to an earlier date. Since then it starts on the Saturday 16 days before the first Sunday in October and finishes on that Sunday but since German Unity day it is occasionally extended as it is this year.

Lets just say PSG are fortunate they were not about in Robespierre’s day, especially Nomark:)

His mistake was not his starting position.

It was stopping his run back and clawing for a ball he could not reach.

If he continued running back he has an easy catch- same mistake as Leighton Baines not continuing his run to block and adopting a position half way to where he should be.

    You are easily pleased.

RB is our weakness at the moment — other teams will target us in that position.

We are in a good position financially — previous years sales and 2016/17 CL.

We have stumbled across a “growth agenda” — thank you BR.

When it was spelt out to PL he wondered what thage was?

And could you get CAP money if you grew enough of it.

Consequently we can afford to invest in the squad.

ON shows how a realistic investment can improve the team in two months.

Now is the time to plan ahead and set us up to take the next step forward.

Becoming fat and happy while laughing at the TFOD2a is not enough.

Oktoberfest finished by the time we get there?

Oh well, at least they’ll have a couple of weeks to stock up again.

Flights to Munich from Aberdeen via Amsterdam still inexpensive at the moment – i know Glasgow and Edinburgh will be extortionate by now.

  12. Good evening all.

May I suggest that we now shelve all talk of the Champions League and focus our attention on Saturday’s league decider against the Perth Invincibles. Wonder how many new players we might have signed by 3pm Saturday ;-)

  13. Worst case scenario both Alect and us lose our games to Bayern and PSG, we could go through in third with 2 points, 0-0 at home and 1-1 away

I would take that now, I think :-)

  14. VOGUEPUNTER @8.58.

Cheers, you guessed wrong, but am pretty sure your place was on my shortlist. I avoid reviews when I go somewhere new, we walked about for an hour and looked at busier restaurants with lots of locals in situ. I have lost the receipt but the restaurant name began with an X and was close to rail station. Stupidly good value for money. About 200 yards down from station, close to a road junction. Sorry, but drink had been taken.

IMO the CL can be dealt with nearer game time .

Personally I hope the blog does not lose focus on the complete crock of excrement that came from ND and RM

if ever we needed a push for a full and frank INDEPENDENT review into the total stitch up from these clowns then that bull they came out with was IT .

Hi chaps. Me Wee BGFC and Mrs BGFC booking up for a week in Bavaria tomorrow – our favourite holiday destination and we qere planning the October week in Garmish in ant case. Will be needing 3 or possibly 4 tickets in Munich. Don’t know what the Celtic situation will be, but grateful for any contacts. Happy to buy tickets up front and take the risk getting too many:-)

I can pass on email via Paul or Blantyre Tim if there is a possibility.

  17. There will be much wailing and nashing of teeth if we only bring in Paddy and Rivaldo.

Little spend for what we can afford and that includes Olivier and Jonny, we have a few off the books into the bargain.

Whatever, Pedro will be delighted, a heated driveway on the cards this winter :-)

Going by what I read on the blogs it looks like the Celtic support has moved on, bar the usual suspects who strive for justice the rest don’t give a feck, sadly that’s how I read things.
