New Uefa seeding rules this year mean that teams in Champions League Pot 2 have a higher aggregate coefficient value than teams in Pot 1. So Barcelona (we’re bound to avoid them now they look a little lost), Atletico, PSG, Borussia Dortmund and the Manchester twins. Only Sevilla and Porto would provide some comfort, the latter, in particular.
From Pot 1 we could do worse than our old friends Spartak Moscow (18 coefficient points), although Shakhtar Donetsk, Benfica and Monaco would be decent draws.
As our primary objective is to remain in Europe after Christmas, the real battleground for Celtic is in Pot 3. I’d proverbially bite your hand off for Olympiakos, Anderlecht or Besiktas, even Basel would be acceptable. Prefer to avoid the Italians of Napoli and Roma, as well as Liverpool.
Remember, don’t go booking flights before the final confirmation of dates is concluded.

Delighted with the draw. Nae chance of going through, but every chance of getting to the Europa League, where with a bit of luck I think we can get a good run. Will be great to see the best players in the world at Parkhead and the travelling could hardly be better. Also bucked the odds by avoiding all of the English clubs. In these reactionary times there seems to be more and more dislike of Celtic down there and I’m glad to give them all a miss, especially Chelsea. ‘Orrible noveau riche lot.

If all we can’t expect is PR and a back up striker then it will be pretty thin gruel.
First up what is a back up striker — better than LG or another MD €1mill punt?
PR makes his own business case — he will be cost neutral as a loan signing.
What we pay in fees and wages we will recover in ticket sales, hospitality and merchandising.
ON has now shown what can be achieved with a £4.5miill spend.
He has from a standing start became our best player in less than 2 months.
He cannot have been the only player we have been following this season.
We are weak at RB — AR is good but he is as raw as sushi — so a spend in this area will make a big difference this season.
Can live with our other challenges —
GK: CG — happy to live with his kicking and slightly petulant attitude.
As in two chips straight into the crowd when he gets a ball he doesn’t want.
CB: JS / DB — they have some growing to do but they have made good progress plus new Bloke and young bloke offer huge potential for the future.
Plus if we want to play 5 at the back we have NB to play sweeper.
CM: SB — Need 6 big games out of him as he does his lap of honour.
Hopefully Tuesday will be a wake up call to tell him what he needs to do.
First half he was in the zone and looked very competitive.
Second half he was back to his sloppy flicks and tricks worst.
LW: ScS — getting back to his best but a still a bit miss and miss.
Needs to feel the love just a bit too much but he can be a big player for us.
Has the class and talent to hurt the best — just nee it more often.
We have the makings of a very good team.
Couple of gaps that need filled — RB is a gaping hole.
ML is struggling at the moment — he is playing too much emotion and not enough ability.
Legs looked shot — might be a injury worry.
Consequently we have made progress from last year.
Need to keep going.
