Olympiakos, Anderlecht or Besiktas, please

New Uefa seeding rules this year mean that teams in Champions League Pot 2 have a higher aggregate coefficient value than teams in Pot 1. So Barcelona (we’re bound to avoid them now they look a little lost), Atletico, PSG, Borussia Dortmund and the Manchester twins. Only Sevilla and Porto would provide some comfort, the latter, in particular.

From Pot 1 we could do worse than our old friends Spartak Moscow (18 coefficient points), although Shakhtar Donetsk, Benfica and Monaco would be decent draws.

As our primary objective is to remain in Europe after Christmas, the real battleground for Celtic is in Pot 3. I’d proverbially bite your hand off for Olympiakos, Anderlecht or Besiktas, even Basel would be acceptable. Prefer to avoid the Italians of Napoli and Roma, as well as Liverpool.

Remember, don’t go booking flights before the final confirmation of dates is concluded.

Hospitality for four on Saturday: meals, bar, Directors’ Box tickets, the lot!!

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have offered four full hospitality tickets for Saturday’s game against St Johnstone. You and three friends could benefit from a stunning pre-match meal in the Walfrid, halftime refreshments, as well as a complimentary bar before and after the game.

You will also watch the game from the Directors’ Box. In collaboration with this raffle, we are raising money for Mary’s Meals. Over 3,000 children in Malawi and Liberia eat each school day in a kitchen supported by Celtic Quick News readers. You can donate a minimum of £5 here.

To win, email your MyDonate confirmation to me, celticquicknews@gmail.com with the answer to this question IN THE SUBJECT LINE:

How many Champions League qualifying games have Celtic played in the Astana Arena before Tuesday?

Other emails with the correct answer will also be considered. Competition closes at 14:00 THIS AFTERNOON (i.e. minutes away from publication time of this article). You need to be able to collect your tickets in Glasgow on Friday. Please ensure you leave reliable contact information on your email. Good luck!

  1. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

Beat one of the big two at home-I think we play Bayern at CP in the first game-and let the fun begin.

Not the least bit worried about that group. In fact, payday the morra, and I’m putting it all on us to win the group.

  2. Another tough draw. Our luck is just never on in these draws is it?

Still, Anderlecht beatable. PSG and Bayern must be amongst the favourites. Not looking forward to seeing Neymar again.

But glad we avoided Real Madrid and Barca.

Realistically- third our best option, but who knows?

  3. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Not the most difficult of draws . As was posted earlier up against that wee nyaff , Neymark .

Those going to the Allianz in Munich will have a great trip.

Three teams in our group we have played in the last 22 years

I wonder if Bayern will celebrate a nil nil draw like they did the last time they played us at Celtic Park. .

  4. Well,as usual,we get it fekin hard.Only saving grace,is we can go head to head with Anderlecht for the Europa.

If we get anything from the other two it would be a fantastic achievement.

    EMBRAMIKE SAYS ” YER TEAM’S DEID…BEAT IT!” on 24TH AUGUST 2017 4:10 PM

My preferences for the draw is to avoid English and Spanish teams and then have our last game at home, December 5/6. Post Xmas European football could depend on this match.

So if we get Anderlecht at home last game, my wish has come true – pints on me !

  6. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

Dawdle should take points off all of them, nice refreshing draw new teams

  7. ‘Brussels, Paris, Bayern Munich,

    Everybody’s talking about the Celtic…’

    MCSC

  8. MAGIC DRAW !

Last 16 here come the Celts.

Celtic score first…v Bayern…8-4 on aggregate.

    PSG….8-4 on aggregate.

    Anderlecht..8-4 on aggregate.

Celtic top the Group …..easy easy easy !

No travel problems, no fan trouble ( hopefully)

    Whats not to like ?

Brendan and The Bhoys to storm Europe.

I also won the York racing placepot today.

it paid nearly £670 for a £1 stake.

    I had “pems on”…and one 10 pence line came up……..£67 back….easy peasy.

Good draw for us this time, it’ll be very difficult to get anything out of the Bayern games

*couple of my wee team over here wear Bayern taps tae practice. Ones Albanian and the others Hungarian/German, well their parents are.

  10. sixtaeseven - 67 trophies in my lifetime on

Anderlecht currently 10/16 in their league after 4 games (4 points).

Happily scrap it out with them for the Euopa spot, plus 4 glamour games where anything is possible !

Could have been worse (Barca yawn, English Battle o Britain crap, far away places… etc).

    Happy enough.

  11. PHILBHOY on 24TH AUGUST 2017 5:58 PM

I hope that cheatin’ diver naygood gets hi leg broke next game.

Woooooooo woooooooo woooooo wtf is that, seriously?

  12. Happy with that, could’ve been better, could’ve been much worse.

Hopefully the Bayern game is a date that suits work wise, Munich is a great city trip and about 5 flights a day from Cologne.

  13. TURKEYBHOY on 24TH AUGUST 2017 6:01 PM

Well,as usual,we get it fekin hard.Only saving grace,is we can go head to head with Anderlecht for the Europa.

*always fancied another crack at Europa.

  14. When you look at the other groups,we’ve landed a good chance to get third at least, football after Christmas:-))

  15. Nothing easy at this stage just get everyone fit get the heads down and get on with it. Hopefully Roberts is back and we held Bayern. At Celtic Park before and Anderlecht. A full squad and we can do well.

  16. STARRY PLOUGH on 24TH AUGUST 2017 6:01 PM

TONTINE TIM Neymar plays for PSG:))

    *I did hint at that

  17. Had we been drawn into Groups E (Spartak Moscow, Seville, Liverpool) or G (Monaco, Porto, Besiktas) we may have regarded our chance of success as better. But both of those groups have side issues – more travel, hostile for fans, and the ole battle of britain.

So having had a full 15 minutes to think about it I’d say we’ve come out smelling of roses!

  18. DALLAS DALLAS WHERE THE HECK IS DALLAS on 24TH AUGUST 2017 6:01 PM

    …………………………..

I met Paul McStay the morning after we drew 0-0 with Bayern.

He told me that all the Celtic players and staff were really disappointed with Bayern that night, as they played for a draw, and celebrated getting the draw at the end of the match.

Paul said that Celtic were surprised at their attitude.

    HH

Great draw for us, none of those teams will fancy coming to Celtic Park imo.

  19. Again, the lunatics are on.PSG,a good draw for us?FFSThey have just paid 200 million for Neymar,to add to their glittering array of stars.Bayern ,yes, thank God we did not get a strong German team.

I honesty think some on here tonight have not seen a game since Lisbon.

You want a group we could have had a shout in.Liverpools.

    Our group is a nightmare.

  20. Delighted with draw. Very exciting and a freshness to it for us.

Good chance of Europa League football after Christmas, at least :-)).

Brilliant for the fans. All easy travel, Munich just fabulous.

Have we ever played Paris in the champions league? I know we played them in cup winners cup the year they won it, but I can’t recall champions league.

    Hail Hail

    No we have not.

  22. Not the toughest group but still very tough. If we can win a couple of home games we can put ourselves back on the map. Looking forward to seeing some of you CQN-ers in Munich.

    …………………..

Cheers mate. My placepot bet cost just £1.60. I took 2 horses in 4 of the 6 races…along with 2 “bankers”. at 10 pence for each line.

So I am very happy Celt tonight.

Bring on feckin Europe..we will beat them ALL.

Thank God we never got Barca and that mankie Chelsea mob.
